As Viper007Bond said above, there's no road salt used here. Often times when a pickup wears out, they cut the front half off and scrap it while using the bed as a trailer. It's not uncommon to see pickup beds from the 50s and 60s being towed behind newer vehicles.
Moved to PDX with my wife a year ago and we've really been enjoying it. It's cleaner and safer-feeling than any big city I've ever lived in; you're safe as long as you avoid the Lloyd Center and Old Town when the sun goes down. Recent events honestly have been blown way out of proportion by the media, but I'm not mad if it keeps rent (kinda) down and the tourists away. Lots to do, great food, and the car scene here is better than any place I've ever lived too. Even Detroit and LA don't compare. Kei cars, Redblocks, old diesel Mercs, well-built offroaders, supercars, classics, mint old econoboxes that nobody but an RCR fan would save... this place has it all. PIR is a damn decent track too and, if you get bored of that, Oregon Raceway Park is just on the other side of Mt. Hood. Portland has its issues for sure: incompetent local government (esp. concerning the mishandling of the houseless population), gentrification, useless and/or bad LEOs, hipsters, and way too many IPAs to name a few. All that being said though, I think both of us are gonna be real sad when we have to leave this place.
Lol, have good life. I still got two years of high school left before i can i can even consider travelling a sizable portion away from home, not to mention the ever present problem of funding considering i haven't even had a regular job yet.
+ಠ_ಠ Please tell all the big metropolis areas (ahem San Francisco and New York) to stop jacking up the price on rent and everything else here and you will see the numbers of hipsters start to dwindle.
As someone who grew up just outside Portland my whole life, welcome. It's both as strange as you'd think it is, but also more mundane than you could imagine.
Glad to see you are enjoying the city where I grew up, I agree Portland does have a relaxed nature for a big city. Even compared to other cities in the Pacific northwest such as Seattle or Spokane Portland is cleaner and in general has a laid back and relaxed vibe to it. Especially when the sun is shining for the approximate 4.26 seconds of nice weather Portland gets per year before the rains come.
Laid back. Sure. Just don't eat meat in front of them. Wear a non ironic moustache. Or drive an El Camino or '78 Camaro or such. Or not worship Bicycles. Or listen to Van Halen. Or own a gun. Or... or... or... Just don't. They'll FROWN. Gosh.
+Anslock Had a 92 Tercel that was in near perfect condition when I got it in 2002... sadly someone pulled out in front of me on the highway (their fault, they pulled out and squatted, I had witnesses). Insurance totaled it, and then I discovered that you can NEVER buy a Toyota for anywhere near "blue book" value.
+Anslock My first is a 1994 dodge shadow (twin cousin of the red sundance in video) & i still have her, why get rid of it if it still runs & drives & saves me from making payments? ;)
+sudmuck My dad's '92 Shadow was over 330,000 miles and still running perfectly when he sent it to the dump after a frame-bending accident. I miss that car.
hlavco Sadly the 94 Shadow I owned circa 2002 loved to eat head gaskets. After two head gaskets, it then ate the front seal without warning. Dumped all its oil in the course of about 1 mile. 2.5l 4 automatic. By the time the oil light came on, the engine was already knocking. Had to give it away, it was at around 150k miles. Oh, and I had also had to replace the transmission as well. Thing was a pile of crap. I think I only managed about 10,000 miles the entire time I owned it. Constantly hood up in the driveway.
Alvin Brinson Ah, my dad had the base model with the stickshift. Seems like base models of cars tend to last longest. Actually, he got his for super cheap because it was a factory misfit car-- it was the 95hp base model, but they accidentally put "Shadow GT" stickers and decals all over it. So, it lasted forever and looked great doing it.
Portland is a cool city I lived there for ten years. I saw a guy driving and X body Chevy that was show room clean while living there. For those that do not know that's a Citation. A lot of clean old cars in the PNW, very little snow and No salt.
Greetings from Norway! Please test the mx6 while you're there! I havent seen it live yet (since I live in norway) and it would be awesome if you made a video about it!
I've got a '93 Tercel in Bethlehem if you'd like to review one sometime. It's getting on in years, though, and there's some rust happening around the wheel wells.
I don't think Mr. Regular really mentions it, but when we were eating at Lardo's the amount of Subaru Outback's and Foresters was unbelievable! I mean it felt like every other car was a mid 2000's Subaru.
it's a shame you didn't come over to close in southeast. there are like six beautiful early Land Cruisers in a 4 block radius of my house not to mention my neighbors collection of weird turbo K cars.
WAIT... Portland? im up in vancouver!! my really close friend has a shop with about 20ish cars... in different stages of resto... i bet he'd LOVE to show you around, he actually just finished a restoration on a 1920 buick. please.. come check it out
I just moved to Portland and yeah, there are some strange cars I have not seen in years that people drive around here. And they are the type of cars that are gone for a reason, the kinds no one really wants to remember, but here in PDX, its trendy....
+Sumner Nichols Ouch - I was actually born in Vancouver, and I plan on moving back to the Pacific Northwest in the near future. Is it that bad nowadays?
I've been in Seattle for the last 3 years, but from what I've heard there's tons more people meaning tons of development especially in the couve, and traffic has gotten terrible. I'd still prefer living in Vancouver to just about anywhere across the river...
I'm still here in Vancouver and it's really beginning to get crowded. There's so much more cars on the road now. When it rains expect traffic to slow to a crawl because a lot of people aren't used to having water on their windshield.
Portland Oregon, more Toyotas than ISIS..
+Amesie's Automotive Corner And Subarus, especially Subaru Outbacks.
About the same ideology.
A feature length version of just this would make a billion dollars...probably
Seeing all of those forgotten people-movers of my youth just sitting there in pristine, unrusted condition made my head a splode.
No salted roads here so stuff lasts forever.

Sounded ready to cry at the Plymouth Sundance
+ExplosiveBarrels It must of really been that beautiful.
+kirbyswarp Sundance is love. Sundance is life. I grin as it's warmth enters me.
The cars of the '90s are alive in Portland (Portland, Portland, Portland)
rcr v Portland YES PLEASE!
Portland is a great city I just wish that people would stop moving here.
+ಠ_ಠ I think i might move there just to spite you now; well, not only that, but also because most cities on the East Coast are Ghetto Shitholes.
+McBandit Hope People keep telling me that I should move to Portland. Guess doing it just to spite this guy is as good of an excuse as any.
Lol, have good life. I still got two years of high school left before i can i can even consider travelling a sizable portion away from home, not to mention the ever present problem of funding considering i haven't even had a regular job yet.
Lol, I think Portland is slowly becoming too crowded. It's really not big enough to support the influx of people that are moving here.
+ಠ_ಠ Please tell all the big metropolis areas (ahem San Francisco and New York) to stop jacking up the price on rent and everything else here and you will see the numbers of hipsters start to dwindle.
Someone who owns a Tercel needs to let RCR review it.
A 4x4 one would be awesome
+Bender Rodriquez I miss my 1992 Tercel.... it was actually a decent car.
I've seen a couple 4x4 1st gens in the portland/eugene area. A lot of old cars out there
HachiZenki
I don't know but every time I'm in oregon I see a lot of pristine old cars/trucks, a lot of rusted ones too but those are still cool
+Bender Rodriquez I learned to drive stick in a '91 "egg" Tercel. What a fun little car.
The sentence "These geese are cooler than me" basically sums up the way I usually feel about myself.
Which Portland is best Portland?
This mans affinity for regular cars is fantastic.
these videos are the best thing this channel does, I'm so glad they're happening more during this trip :D
As someone who grew up just outside Portland my whole life, welcome. It's both as strange as you'd think it is, but also more mundane than you could imagine.
This video is oddly calming. I might have to start playing it before bed while drinking Earl Grey tea as my new nightly routine.

Please go to Powell's Books. Please. Please. Its Portland.
I miss that Portland. It's a dystopian hellscape now.
You mean it wasn't before?
The Mercury Sable, was a 2nd Gen, not a 1st Gen.
+351broncoii The other Sable was a 4th Gen, not a 2nd Gen.
Wow, RCR in MY hometown :D I wish that somehow I could've ran into you!
You should try and visit McMinnville while you're in Oregon! It's like 50 minutes away. You described Portland perfectly too, calmest big city ever
This might be right up there with the hiking video as my fav RCR video.
Portland is pretty cool, glad you are enjoying it!
Portland is actually really nice as far as major cities go. Very laid back.
Tiberius Hrafn-Úlfur nah for oregon its actually really fuckin up tight
Laid back. Sure. Just don't eat meat in front of them. Wear a non ironic moustache. Or drive an El Camino or '78 Camaro or such. Or not worship Bicycles. Or listen to Van Halen. Or own a gun. Or... or... or... Just don't. They'll FROWN. Gosh.
My first car was a 92 Tercel... and I still have it and i´m never getting rid of it :)

Portland is NOT Matt Farah's million-mile Lexus.
Mr. Regular should definitely spend some time in Portland. It's super hip!
Thanks for saving me the trip to Portland.
All those cool unique cars
Good ol' Paseo haha! We had one growing up. My mom would pick us up from school in it. It's so tiny. Haha!
Welcome to Portland dude!
Whaaaaat, i live in vancouver washington like right across the bridge from portland, so cool you came so close
SD70ACe's behind the Plymouth Sundance.
two volvo 240's? best video EVER
Nice video Mr.Regular!
This looks nice and calm.
You know you want to live Portland! You want to! You want to! You want to! You want to!
+Sam Jacobson I do - I do - do!
Portland is a cool city I lived there for ten years. I saw a guy driving and X body Chevy that was show room clean while living there. For those that do not know that's a Citation. A lot of clean old cars in the PNW, very little snow and No salt.
How did I not see you running around my city!?!?!
I only wish it was longer!
Greetings from Norway! Please test the mx6 while you're there! I havent seen it live yet (since I live in norway) and it would be awesome if you made a video about it!
Your videos are beautiful, rcr

You were in my town! Damn!
Trains. So authentic.
There's a reason the Curbside Classic blog posts so much stuff from Portland. It's regular-car heaven.
Nice, a fellow Curbside reader.
Mr. Reg seems to fit in pretty well here
looks nice!
I live in Portland (a couple of the shots were a few blocks from my office) and I used to have a Paseo that I totally would have let RCR review.
"Why is this city so clean." How times have changed
Dammit!!! I wish I knew you were here
Rare "now" regular car heaven!
Damit! i was there over the weekend! All the way from vancouver BC. Had my 93 Delica L300 with me. Would've been awsome if you did a RCR. :(
It's like I've always been told. Portland today is Seattle circa 1990 somehow transported to the Willamette Valley circa 2015.
I'm guessing the lack of road salt is why you're seeing all these glorious early 90's cars
Poor Portland, you deserved better.
Haha wow, A Plymouth Sundance. Suddenly I miss my Dodge Shadow.
Speaking of 90s cars, please do a review of the Third generation Prelude and the VW Corrado. I dunno why but I loved those cars when I was younger.
You were a block away from Red Door Meet! every sunday @6:30 500+ cars meet on 2nd street. its like fast and the furious you missed out
lol time has certainly passed for Portland 1:33
The Toyota tercel was my first car. Wish I still had it so you could review it
M. Regular, have you ever thought of reviewing a 2CV?
are you going to be in Seattle? there is the Seattle international car show going on this weekend... I'll be there!
"Why is this city so clean?"i.e. How to spot an East Coaster.
I don't understand these videos but I like them.
Trains: So authentic!
Indeed they are, including the fact that you didn’t go to see any other trains..
Chod central as I would call it. So much RCR worthy stuff there
"Is this chicken local?"
Lived and worked around Portland for years, great town, did you get to Voodoo donuts?
I wonder what city he's in.
"oregon where most parts are still stuck in the 80s/90s and some parts are stuck in the 60s/70s and very few have gone with the times... )
When are you coming to the seattle area?
Come back any time!
Go to York pa, I been there many times and see SO MANY DODGE AND PLYMOUTH SUNDANCES
you had to go to my home, the year I ship overseas....check out the downtown area on Sunday night for a huge car meet.
Under the burnside bridge.
Yeah, Red Door Meet.
Ah, I remember the battle of Port Lardo. Whittled us down to 350 men in the push up Beer Belly Hill but by god, we made it happen
0:06 OH HEY A LINCOLN LS!
"These geese are cooler than me."
Mr. Regular -2015
You must visit the Red Door meet on a dry warm evening, imagine five blocks of all sorts of cars.
Used to have a pair of shorts that just like those. But I ripped them in half.
By accident.
The lobby at 1:13 is the entryway to a company that makes software some automotive cos use. Their 1989 Honda RC30 is really really purty
Come to Mississippi ave tomorrow. I'll let you review my beer truck
that whispering part triggered my asmr
I have an 85 tercel if you want to review it! I'm in washinton!
What's the plan for you being here? Going to any of the meets?
The pacific north west, its where you go in you want any model of Toyota.
it's a shame you didn't come over to close in southeast. there are like six beautiful early Land Cruisers in a 4 block radius of my house not to mention my neighbors collection of weird turbo K cars.
@RegularCarReviews It seems you were not interested in my MINI.
:(

I'm from Vancouver! Glad to see you liked Portland, cause I'm sick of it haha
