Designers who get the concept of living a space before 'designing' it, build their own designs that can actually be built and have a great eye for detail that enhances both the aesthetic and the usability and are nice people to boot is a very rare combination❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Definitely a neat buildout. I like that you will have two options for sleeping spaces. Just like on the boat having things have multiple purposes comes in handy.
Yachting and LandRover, for me it doesn’t get better. As a Yorkshire man I’ve been driving landrovers since I was eight, they are family heirloom items (families say “take Great Grandads S1 to collect the kids from school”). Loved the 110 layout, I might show it to my wife of 44 years. The bed might be a struggle (even if she still looked like Kika) as I’m approaching 70. Cracking side video from UMA and you don’t need to be shy about your skills. Off to see my boat in the South of France and then Christmas with our six grandchildren.
I have watched this channel before the Uma 2.0 Refit and I must say, it never has disapoint me. I love your videos and I thank you for them. Team Uma/ Good Job!
Great conversion, you ought to have a chat with Land Rover or the conversion companies. Great job your boat experience obviously helped with your design.
Impressive how you have gotten just enough for everyday living simply and without seemingly being overloaded. The only thing that i might suggest would be a curtain for the fold out awning for rain/privacy at times, but you might already have it.
There are a so many "van life" vids out there that are both good and well-intentioned, but anyone considering doing a build-out of a vehicle you are going to live in for any significant period of time, should START HERE! So much experience, planning, and logic informs this vehicle design.
I loved your buildout. Much crossover boat to Defender living. Each feeds the other. I live in a 27' Catalina, but fell into the trap of Marina living. There certainly are no apartments a cheap as I can get this Marina, but...... It is not bursting over with quality, but the new owner is doing lots of building. I'm virtually 71 now on SS and this is the cheapest way for me to live. I do have a storage locker out of which I run a specialized audio business. I've really enjoyed watching your boat work. Great workman/womanship with great ideal. Probably time to become a patron.
As someone who has a Motovan (Van to take my motorcycles places and camp in) I've loved this small little series on your truck. Found your channel back when I was doing my first buildout in my van many years ago long before you were living on land (on my 3rd now).
@Kika. With all your filmography experience you can make easy money. Have you ever considering to put a 1 or 2 hrs filming seminar? With all your experience you can easily charge 100 bucks for 1 or 2 hrs. If you ever consider to do something like this. Reserve me a spot. You are so good using all your equipment and making a great video to watch every week. Cheers
You’ve done it again with an incredibly efficient, attractive and impressive build. I love that you have the option to stand up inside by pushing the bed up. I’ll bet that comes in super handy in bad weather when cooking outside is less practical. Will be great when you have a second sleeping option inside too. with the top closed for bad weather.
Busted!! Saw you in the 'party' picture at the boat trade show with the RAN Sailing duo and others. Hoping to see some footage of all the toys you both drooled over and may incorporate into Uma. Don;' worry thought, you're still my fav boat channel.
The only detail I’d change on my version of your ( perfect ) truck: the cabinet would go on the left ( I know, weight distribution ) for one reason , so I could look out on the right side. Should come handy in traffic especially when you’re driving in countries like the UK while having a left-hand-driven car. In this case you have a huge blind spot on the right side. Gets worse when driving alone
I'd think you could get a rear-view camera with a wide enough angle and a display mounted on the dash to take care of that. Wouldn't need all the time, but maybe a couple of different settings for wide or normal. I'm sure this is not a new idea. Just need to find the parts.
I love your efficient use of space with drawers and organisers, unlike most camper vans that have 2 or 3 uses for each element that gets tedious every time you want to do something.
Kika, Dan hi from Calgary. Your level of planning, innovation and execution never ceases to amaze me. Your truck is so much better than any production product I've seen, quite simply they are crap compared to your truck. My favorite feature is the wrap around canopy 👍. Thanks for the tour.
You guys put a lot of thought into your truck. I think it is really awesome and well thought out. Seeing this truck, I can't wait to see how well thought out your boat is going to be. That tour won't be that far off anymore, you guys are really moving along on the boat now that all the prep work is done. Thank you for showing us your truck. It was fun.
🤔🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼My goodness❗You guys have your own “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” auto❣(Look-up the movie, “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”). You guys are “magicians!” I admire all of the work you do and have done in both your boat and your vehicle. That’s a beautiful vehicle after all of the inner design and work you’ve out into it. Sigan pa’ lante. Muchos éxitos!🙌🏼
I think the diesel heater is something like a Webasto AT2000. I have on in my 27 ft boat, and it really dries up the boat when it's cold outside and damp inside. Especially if it takes the fresh air from the outside. Just realized I installed it in 2002. How time flies.
I enjoy your channel, have for a few years now. I know you are both architecture grads. Me too. I can’t help but wonder what your careers as architects might have been. I wonder if that will be the post Uma adventure. Cheers!
I can see your architecture training and experience in the truck build. EXCELLENT! Consider keeping your Ecoflow as your inverter and your other LiFePo batteries to increase the system capacity keeping the Ecoflow boosted. I don't recall your method of charging the Ecoflow. ??
I like the truck build. It is well thought out. Unrelated to the build but something I've been wanting to ask is what kind of pants was Dan wearing. I would be interested in knowing more about the clothes you both wear and the why. I'm looking for more outdoorsy clothing for myself.
Great little space. And I raise my hat (a knit cap - winter coming you know...) for you living in such a compact car. 😅 And I really like those drawer handles! I assume they lock the drawers as well? It was super nice to see you btw. All the best for the refit! 🙂
Hey guy this is Angelo from Dominican Republic I had same issue with a coke refrigerator so I bought kasa smart plug and you can program a routing. Also there is a switch sonoff that also could help you I have the yacuzzi pump connected. Best regards
Great video (or two great videos) about your Defender. Having watched you recreate Uma over the years, your design and building skills come as no great surprise, but kudos for a job well done. One thing I'm curious about, however, is what happens after you're back on the water? The truck doesn't float very well and you're water people. I know it is a necessary thing right now and you've talked about putting it in a shipping container, but I can see that becoming a major hassle in the future. Have you built a couch?
They mentioned, some time ago in a previous video, that they intend to keep the truck and the storage bin for many years to come. I think they said the truck will fit in the container for easy shipping to other places.
@@jlewis4587 You'd have to keep this jewel of a camper truck! Putting it in their container would let them ship it anywhere in the world they wanted to go, and with planning it would be there waiting for them, along with all their tools! Formula 1 teams do it all the time! Otherwise they can ship it to me in case they want to visit Illinois!
I am considering adding a pop up to an old van....How is the condensation with the pop up or does the diesel heater solve that issue in the colder months?
Would it have been as easy to build out the truck if you hadn't spent so much time on a boat? In other words, did living on Uma give you a "head start" to living in an overlanding vehicle? How much more difficult would it have been if you hadn't lived on Uma first?
Love the Defender (of course along with Uma sailing!). Had a couple of questions. When you are back into sailing around, I know you mentioned shipping this to some locations to also enjoy / add the land life aspect where you go. Will this run into any limitations in other countries? So could you ever plan on driving it in the US (just thinking differences between US safety, EPA requirements vs other countries). Just curious and again, love the setup!
I just realized it is probably (logically) with the other tools in the yard 😂 That’s awesome! I love 3D printing. Such useful devices (especially these days). As always, thanks for pursuing your adventure and making some awesome content for others in the process :D
You have been living on a boat for 10+ years & your ingenious use of space is so cool. Everything just makes sense. UMA 2.0 is going to be AWESOME.
Your cabinet making and design skills are outstanding.

Your truck is a work of art ❤ I'm in awe of your small wardrobe space!
I love how you converted the Defender into mobile living space for the two of you. It looks professionally done. Great job!!
That hinged worktable attached to the fridge drawer is simply genius.
Your ability to maximize small spaces is amazing.
Your vision of what you were going to do with an empty truck was remarkable and just as remarkable is making in happen.
Definitely a neat buildout. I like that you will have two options for sleeping spaces. Just like on the boat having things have multiple purposes comes in handy.
Even though each of you have an education, I like how you respect each other's view and seamlessly work together.

Amazing and practical. Well though out.
Wow, that’s like the most appropriate ad Segway yet. Watching you actually use the item you just talked about - your truck’s table and back door.

Holy cow; you are like the navy seals of campering.

I like this idea. So many "how to" videos you guys could make and charge a fee for. The Umaversity!
efficiency design masters! love it. Nice work folks.

The magnet rail is for knives and cutlery.. oh and for holding open stove lids.,😂
You are an awesome design/creation team!!!
Engenius work on your trck+ boat work, you got what works for you, that's awesome!
fantastic - thanks for the detailed tour!
Thanks Guys!
I need some of these small space hacks for my land apartment. So well organized!

Couldn’t be done without two amazing architects!!

Awesome truck-awesome tour! Ingenious uses of a small space! I'm having serious organization-envy!
As a contrast to your compactness, I live in an 1800 square foot house and wonder where I am going to put things!

Great tour especially with the organization & convenience of where to place things. The back door is my fav. Thank you!! 😍🙌
admire what you did and your ability for minimal living; I believe in this lifestyle and live it but not to your extent ( I couldn't do it.) Bravo!

You need to give your landy a name.😊
Sometimes Dan makes me think of Dora the Explorer with his expressions and speaking style. LOL
How much mosquito repellant do you have?😂
We just use the electronic kind. Works great!
The Defender is awesome. Do you have any footage of the sleep top install?
I think we mentioned in the last video (exterior tour) but the truck came with the roof conversion done already.

I suppose it will be for sale!
It’s going to fit in their shipping container and can be relocated wherever, whenever.
You’re geniuses. You should open a business.
Nice work. What are those latches on the drawers? I like that solution and I would like to use it on my boat ;)
We have a list of EVERYTHING we installed on the outside and the inside linked in the video description for those interested.

Weird question. What pants is Dan wearing in this video? I've been looking for something like those. Also sending love from Iowa. 🐖🌽🖖
Very nice, is your diesel heater a Chinese knockoff,
if so - maybe purchase a carbon monoxide detector
for your own safety?
it's not a knockoff. It's a highly reputable heater.
@@SailingUma That is great news
because I love your channel!
Did you buy it used or new ?
They stopped making 110's in 2016.... so used. It had almost 100,000km on it when we picked it up.
I've seen (and liked) all of your videos but I've never seen any bad vibes. Have you ever had a heated argument?
