- On my way to fly the inaugural flight of WestJet's 787 Dreamliner, I decided to try out the other widebody aircraft in the WestJet fleet, their Boeing 767-300!
I'll be uploading a full trip report on this flight later on, but for now, here's this gorgeous wintertime departure from Calgary! This is easily one of my all time favourite takeoff videos, so enjoy these CF6s from one of the best engine view seats I've ever had!

The 767 is such a great workhorse. I've flown on the -300 and -400 and they have a special place in my heart. Great vid!
I get all warm and tingly when i see my home town from the air. Been in Kelowna for 20 years and dont get back to Calgary much. Thank you for this vid. Going to have a head full of memories today.
GREAT capture of a classic Cf^6 with it's tell tale low throaty buzz saw sound. Reminds me of the DC10's.
The fact that commercial airliner wings are engineered to take on so such heavy loads, is incredible!

Thank-you for sharing another great show with us, Alex. Many of your videos throw me back into a nostalgic mood, and this one is no exception. Back when I did a lot of overseas flying, the B767 was the popular workhorse. The MD-11 was on its way out and the B777 was just becoming popular. But the seat from which you videoed looked a lot like where I sat in business class with remarkably the same view. What I always enjoyed was flying through some turbulence. The wings flexed, control surfaces went into stabilization mode, and the engine pylons independently shook all over to the extent that I thought they would fall off. I never became alarmed, because what would be the point? There really was not a lot I could do about it anyway. I’m just glad I was not charged extra for the entertainment.
Of course, I would be exceptionally remiss without noting how much my home in Illinois looked like the vista you had of the Calgary landscape once you took off. Flat, open farm land with intermittent plums of steam and smoke from remote factories, all under brilliant snow. Now, I am homesick again.
The URL WestJet pasted on the winglet amused me, as I find it amusing whenever I see an airline’s URL pasted on their livery. I have to guess that the last time I ever had to type the ULR into a web browser’s address box was back in the mid 90’s. At least for me, doing a search on “WestJet” would most likely get me to where I want to be long before I finished typing in a URL. Actually, I really do not care. It is just one of those things that keeps me entertained.

The 767 is in my top 3 favorite aircraft. Having flown on the -300 with the PW4000 and CF6 , the GE engine is unmatched and in my opinion is one of the best turbofan engines ever made right next to the JT9D. Music to my ears!
I've flown in 727, 737, 757 (with the rare PW engines), 767, MD-11, and the L-1011. Loved the feel of the 767 the best out of all of em.

What causes engine roar to disappear like that? is it the speed of the aircraft?
@@mattkroening7964 its because they pull the throttles back shortly after takeoff. During takeoff power the blades are going faster than the speed of sound which cause the buzzaw/growling noise.

What a long taxi to the active runway. I thought you were driving to Toronto. Nice rate of climb as well. I'm thinking you can't see the white 'twilight zone' line on the fan cap spinning like that in flight? Great video!

You just cannot beat the sound of the Cf6 engine on the 767. Great departure mat, the snow & blue sky really add to it. Out of interest, how full was the 76 flight (pax wise)?
About 90-95%! YYC-YYZ is one of WestJet's most popular domestic routes.

If you ever wanted to hear the engine roar of an MD-11... This is the video, MD-11 has the CF6 and PW4000 as engines so...
Half way thru the video I thought the plane was driving to the next airport.

The 737 doesn't use CF6. It uses the CFM56. Well, I guess they are related (at the end, General Electric is part of CFM International)

This is great vid but CF6 engine-roar doesnt compare to the RB211..Hear a BA767-300 and check the difference
Why do the engines only make the sound at takeoff and not at cruising alt? Full thrust?
Lower thrust settings, you can hear the change as they shift from takeoff to climb thrust at 08:02, further reducing to cruise at 10:15. Doesn't take long for a 767 to climb with ~4 hours of fuel!

Nice to see that global warming has bypassed Calgary. I wish they could find a way to reduce the amount of time in taxiing before take off which would also save wasted fuel.
Some aircraft do tend to turn off their no1 or no2 engine although it differs from company to company.
I have had only the best flights on West Jet awesome people
