As a young boy this show was my favorite to watch. In the early 70s when I was introduced to Giant Robot and Johnny sako trying to conquer evil and fight for the injustices in the world. The ending of giant robot flying into space with the evil emperor and giving of himself and I to cried with such sadness I had to take a couple days off from school. Heroes we look for them thru movies, sports our families and etc.. THIS SHOW WAS THE BEST.
Just bought the entire series on dvd on ebay. Really cheap too! Can't wait to watch them and relive the simple times of the '70's when all the kids rode bikes and played outside. I was almost never indoors as a kid. Nowadays, completely different world for kids.
I grew up in the Coachella Valley, but when we visited my aunt & uncle in Van Nuys, I got to watch KBSC Ch. 52...and that's where I first Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot. Great stuff! I later saw Voyage Into Space on KTLA one Saturday evening and got their origin story. Loved it!😁
Wow, I remember watching this back in 1971 to 1972. I was living in Kansas and was in the 2nd grade. I absolutley loved this show. This was the first time seeing this show since 1972...wow!
Your dad wasn't lying. I happened upon a website selling this on VHS...ripped off the packaging when I got it, played it, and tears of joy started flowing....great, great memories
I remember watching this when I got home from school in the early 70s, when my family lived at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base. Can't remember the channel.
This by far was my introduction to the Asian culture at age 6 and loved this series and watched everyone of them there after, and still try to find them today, just amazing thank you for posting them
One of my all time Favs. I was born in '74 so I watched this from like 2-4 years of age. And Watching it now for the first time in 32 years. Will be buying on eBay tonite!!!
If you didn't cry.... you were not human. The funniest fun fact of all: I grew up in the gang capital of the USA. And i'm talking the crips & bloods, in the 70's. Every single one cried when this came on. At the time, they only showed the movie (Voyage Into Space) once a year (maybe). It came on at 6pm once, all other times it would be after midnight. We could never figure out the still photos inside the tv guide, that never showed in the movie? We couldn't figure out why the commander said that giant robot would have to fight the monsters again, when he only fought them once in the movie. Then it happened........ THE 30 MINUTE SHOWS WERE RELEASED! And we lost our damn minds. So from 3 to 6pm, mon-fri, channel 52 (LA)..... you didn't see one kid outside playing. We were glued to the tv & these were some of the well known gangbangers that had movies written about them, michael jackson had in the 'beat it" video, etc.... Then we understood those still photos from the tv guide. But in '74, the movie came on early sunday morning..... that monday morning at school, each of us were depressed & in full denial. Normally, we were running around before the bell rang. Not that morning, all of us sat around, some still crying, teachers not knowing what's wrong with us.... they called an assembly to find out why the entire school was upset & sad..... the second we yelled "BECAUSE GIANT ROBOT DIED!" NO HE DIDN'T, THEY SAID HE WOULD RETURN! HE'S DEAD....... WAHHHHHHHHHHHH! Those teachers & principal looked at us like we had lost our damn minds. Some didn't want to be comforted at all. So yes, I'm a giant robot junkie, with many questions... how in the hell did johnny sokko know everything about the robot, when there was no manual? giant robot was the first to poplock & bark at the same time. Why didn't U3 & U7 didn't get squished in his hands when he took off with them? Why in the hell was johnny wearing booty shorts around a man he just met? Why did the same people get killed over & over again... during the same damn scene? Okay, my rant is over. And if y'all don't know..... the movie was released on blu-ray. My collection has grown. I have it all on vhs, laser disc, dvd, & now blu-ray. (I got it bad y'all)
Growing up in the late 60's and early 70's, we enjoyed shows like this one, even with having only a few TV channels to choose from (and without paying to watch tv), a 1000 times more than kids watching tv now. I don't think there's a show on tv today, that young kids rush home from school to watch, like we did back then. Anyone remember all the Saturday morning cartoons, back when TV was fun.
I was born in 66, this show came on Saturday mornings realllllllllly early in the 70's. I had to get up at five to catch an episode. i blame Johnny Sokko for my being a morning person. Also, I was really confused as a child, why did a Japanese kid have a robot that looked just like King Tut???? My Dad was always confused when I started yelling into my watch for my giant robot.
I love how many people seem to think Koji Kabuto started the trend of making robot pilots call out their attacks....even though Johnny technically started that trend. Mazinger and Giant Robo are both awesome though :)
70's cartoon and sci-fi line up, not in order: scooby-doo, sigmond the sea monster, land of the lost, electro women and dyno girl, hanna barbara stuff, bugs bunny, laff-o-lympics, then at night six million dollar man ,i remember the long anticipated episode with bigfoot. bonanza. cool times, peace.
so did I. I even forgot that the robot was actually (spoiler alert) destroyed at the end of the series. I guess I blocked it out of my mind it was so traumatic. sob...sob...sob
Note to wolfsblood07: I'll bet that *you* and *your* childhood chums had the same debate Back In The day..Who'd whip the other's butt in a fight? The Giant Robot or Ultraman/ We all put our wagers on Ultraman. LOL!
@OMGsDRugz I dont know what rofl is . and I know know who posted that comment using my screen name becouse I like both giant robot and utra man . Oh ,,, thank you whopitup . I like your video .

My husband used to host this show on TV back in the 70's! It brings back nice memories.

This is the best show I've ever watched! I'm not even joking!
