- The original Transformer: GOLDAR. "The Space Giants" aired on WTCG/WTBS ("Monsters from Outer Space" before that in 1972 in U.S. TV syndication) in the U.S.A. locally on Channel 17 in Atlanta and on cable nationwide. This show was titled "Ambassador Magma Taishi" in Japan and in debuted there on television on July 4th, 1966. 52 half-hour episodes were produced between 1966-1967. Every 4 episodes formed a single storyline. This clip is from the end of episode #14 and the start of episode #15. There was a resolution to the storyline in the final episode (#52).
Used to watch this as a kid and then after this was Ultraman brings back so many memories

Me too. I used to be really scared of Rodak as a kid. And my cousin was grossed out because the lugu men turned into "blue applesauce" when you killed them.
This show was so fascinating as a child, and after the morning cartoons it was out in the field playing Goldar and Silvar!
It came on right after school . We had no time to dilly dally get home and watch spaaaaaacceee giants . Love how his henchmen died and looked like applesauce 😂😂
I would run home to see this after school and watch it on the Atlanta superstation wtcg, even before it was wtbs.

Hi Everyone! I worked at a small bar in Alabama and believe it or not, the happy hour gang would gather there at 4o'clock in the afternoon and watch Space Giants. It ran on TNT every day. Thanks to Goldar and Silvar my tip jar overflowed.😂😂Thanks for this video. It brought back a lot of fond memories.

The kid with the helmet is Goldar's son Gam, who can also transform into a red and white rocket ship (much smaller than Goldar, but still large enough to carry two passengers). Less-seen is Silvar (Goldar's wife and Gam's mother), who transforms into a silvery rocket ship, and she helps fight off aliens once or twice herself (being nearly as powerful as Goldar despite her much smaller size, but she doesn't get much screen time).
Goldar is gigantic, while Silvar and Gam are human-sized. (How did Goldar and Silvar manage to have a kid with such a size difference? Well, they're robots, and literally A Wizard Did It - his name is Methusa).
Gam's name is the only one unchanged in the English version. Goldar -
no relation to the Power Rangers villain of the same name :D - was originally Magma, Silvar was Mol. They're all from a manga, "Ambassador Magma", by the creator of Astroboy, Osamu Tezuka.
Wow thanks for this. I was wondering about this show for years as I watched it in after school care in the early 80’s
Even the dialog transformed from English back to Japanese. This was great stuff when I was a kid.

There was a Japanese anime based off of the manga that inspired The Space Giants.
