Having a two game advantage means the answer to the "gotta believe" question is YES. Not to mention, the METS are 17 - 5 IN their last 22 Games, while ARI & ATL are 11 - 11. So, basically ATL & ARI are doing their best to hand the 2nd NL Wild Card to the METS with 7 Games to go.
Alvarez' turn-around is remarkable, but his previous cluelessness at the plate is now replaced by Vinetos' platinum sombrero of 5 Ks in one game...But Iglesias, Acuna and Taylor continue to produce in remarkable fashion & METS pitching continues to be stellar

Crazy note on situation and timing: the Mets have 86 wins right now. TWO NL teams made the playoffs last year with 84 wins. Right now the Orioles have a 4.5 game lead for the first WC spot in the AL. They have the exact same record as the Mets, who are in a struggle for the post-season. If the Mets don’t quite make it this season, to some degree it will be “bad timing and bad luck.”
We are looking like a 90 win ball club and if that doesn’t get you in, it just wasn’t our year
Sugar was amped yesterday. Average fastball velo up to 99.1mph, which I believe was 1.5 or 1.6mph greater than his season average. It took him a second to find his command, but found it on the last two pitches to Schwarber in the 8th: first, a 3-1 slider that, holy cow, it was like a Jake slider 😢, dotted low-inside, and Schwarber swung over it. Sugar then tunneled his fastball, same spot, Schwarber probably thought it was a chase slider and took it, but it was 99 on the black instead. The slider that struck out Harper in the 9th was a thing of beauty, too. The adrenaline seems to be helping Díaz find his groove, and that’s a great sign going into the final seven games.

The Mets really needed to win this one. They are looking at Wheeler the Sale in the next two. Maintaining that two-game cushion was imperative. This is going down to the wire, and the Mets (and Manaea) did the job to keep them in a decent spot.

Acuna will either make the team next year or be playing somewhere else. This run makes him a valuable commodity. Right now, the Mets have a glut of infielders and need a CF and a good starting pitcher. If the Mets can't land Burnes or Fried, they could pivot to a trade.
Wheeler will not have a good day at Citi Field this time it's a Mets thing

I hope you are right. Wheeler is a stud, but every pitcher is capable of having a bad day, or just being beat even on a good day. If the Mets win, I think they almost lock up a post-season appearance. If they lose, they are still in it, but the season is on a razor’s edge.

It’s all going to be the Braves vs Mets & win 1 against the Brew Crew unless the Mets can somehow beat Wheeler & the Marlins win. I don’t know how I feel about the Braves series. I’m a skeptic. Especially against Sale. Alvarez is just as streaky as they come. He dropped like 150 points in his OPS in 2. The Mets are coming alive at the right time. Pitchers were getting squeezed with balls on the black. The one thing I can say about wheeler with the Coupons, is he was healthy for his WALK YEAR, but I thought they needed to keep him. Yes!
