Great. Now do Kirby Yates. Also, one theory that was floated at the time is the reason that the Dodgers didn't pay heavily to re-sign Corey Seager or Trey Turner was to go all in on Shohei when his contract ran out in Anaheim.

Team managers don't seem to realize anything beyond numbers. There is (for now) an unmeasurable metric that has major impact on the production of a team and its players that change, awaken and produce huge upside on a team and this translates to more wins that don't show on the current method measurable metrics system. That player for the Mets is Iglesias and Winker.

Not really. Because Madrigal was signed to a split contract. He can be put in the minors. Wendle was just a major league contract and had to be on the MLB roster.

@@stanfromwestport2024 Siri is one of the best defensive outfielders in the game. That's why he was brought in. And his average is terrible, but he still has big pop relative to his profile Canning is bleh. But also weird. Like he had 14 starts allowing 2 or fewer runs. But he had 12 starts allowing 4 or more. I think Stearns hopes to take that upside into the pitching lab and harness it. I'll believe it when I see it Madrigal is a split contract. Can be put in minors. And is 1.35 mil. Who cares? Depth piece.

I used to say that Iglesias at the very least should get a ST invite to have a chance to compete for a spot but I agree with you, Ryan. Iglesias deserves more respect than that. He played his ass off and deserves a more set spot on a roster. If the Mets can’t fit him, it is what it is. Who knows? Stearns has shown that if you want to be part of this club, you have to perform to our standards. If not, they’ll release you. Doors not shut for Iglesias potentially coming mid season via trade or signing if some things play out that way.

You know what your problem is Ryan? You get attached to these guys and I’m glad Stearns is not like u. U want them to over pay for Pete now u want them to over pay for Iglesias who never has hit in his life like he did last yr. The problem is he’s a mid 30 yr old player who idk about u but his magic disappeared I’d say around game 3 of the Phillies series. That game Suarez kept striking him out with the curve that was the game Iglesias got exposed and hr did nothing from that game on. The Magic left and it’s ok I’m not going to knock him he did a great job but it’s over with. All great organizations that win run a shrewd operation. The Patriots The Yankees in the 90s early 2000s remember what they did to Jeter? Even the Dodgers they know how to evaluate talent and when a player is done. Losing organizations do what u do u feel sorry I get attached “oh I wanna see Pete win with what he help build” Forget that bs I want the right guy in there. I’m tired of fans doing this to the point I can’t even join pages because I hate seeing fans act like this over at best avg players

Remove OMG and sentiment from the equation and all this is doing is swapping one bad contract for a declining utility player for another bad contract for a declining utility player. If the question is “how do the Mets compete with the Dodgers?” the answer to the question at this phase in the Mets’ process is to avoid bad contracts. The only reason the Mets were able to get Soto is that they were able to clear out a bunch of really bad contracts off their books. The Mets are in year 5 of the Cohen era, it took the Dodgers 10 years to get to where they are and their Achilles heel is that their bats will age themselves out in a few years, so if the Mets continue to add depth and good players on favorable contracts, that’s how they take over.

This should be the lineup, in my opinion. Lefty Righty combo. If we can get Vlad jr with Alonso that would be awesome 1) Lindor 2) Vientos 3) Soto 4) Alonso 5) Nimmo. 6) Marte 7) Winker 8) Alvarez 9) McNeil or Acuna

Y’all, the Padres were never going to trade Michael King. His name’s been floated because teams are asking about him, but the guy they’re going to move is Dylan Cease. Always was. This deal has NOTHING to do with that. This is about using a mutual option to do an end run around the whole “no one-year deals after filing” custom that teams follow, mutually assured destruction-style, to avoid creating comps for future arb negotiations. King agreed to it because, like most players, he does not want to go to arbitration, which SUCKS. The two sides meet in the middle, King avoids an arb hearing, and the Padres avoid pissing off the rest of the league. Meanwhile, Dylan Cease and his ~$13mm salary (also agreed to in lieu of an arb hearing) end up on another team, like they always were going to. (Side note: I doubt that any contenders are all that interested in Luis Arráez, because he’s a _meh_ first baseman who doesn’t offer much besides batting average, but if someone does want him, I wonder if that has any bearing on whether Cease gets traded to the Cubs or whoever? Unless Stearns weirdly decides to replace Alonso with Arráez? OK, now _I’m_ speculating.)
