The US government has been oppressing Hawaiians and trying to force us out since… well since they learned of our islands honestly…. and they’re succeeding.
If US government can send billions of dollars to Iran twice, the U.S. government can pay to clean up and rebuild Lahaina and East Palistine for that matter. Meanwhile illegal immigrants get treated like royalty by comparison. America first.
Hawaii has been getting rich off hotel taxes for decades. There’s no excuse not to provide people a place to be until the land is cleaned and building can begin. Where is the national guard to help the recovery effort?!

The State of Hawaii and the US Federal Government must preserve native Hawaiians living on the Island of their birth. It’s sad, but the aftermath of natural disasters hit people of modest means the most and often people of color are disproportionately represented among those forced to leave their chosen communities after disasters. It’s very tragic.

Isn't Hawaii democratic state?
And I'm wondering why do you make the suffering of others about yourself? I have heard that something similar has happened in Ukraine (here the tragedy is a war, not an accidental fire). Some of the prime land in whats left of Ukraine (after the former occupants have been either displaced or dead) has been sold to large international finance companies for future property development after the war ends.
What do you mean accidental?
As tragic as this is it shouldn't surprise anyone. If your 60-year old home burns down in an expensive area like Maui (especially if it was paid off) then replacing it will be at the 2024 market value. No different then selling that same home and trying to relocate within the same area and wondering why your new house cost 10x as much.
So did people not "up" their home owners insurance policies, or what?
How is it posible the mayor will not say where he was? Unacceptable has he said anything after this news?
