I spent 5 years of my childhood growing up in Chukha and Tsimalakha. My father was part of the earlier group of civil engineers from India who worked on Bhutan’s Hydro Electric Project. It is a thrill for me to see the success of that project. We loved our stay in Bhutan and it is heartwarming to see the course the country has taken. The Bhutanese people are so lucky to have such thoughtful leaders and king. I wish this little gem of a country much success.❤
Hi Jeff, So nice to meet you. We were there from 1975- 1978. Moved to Tsimalakha later. Our house was close to the Wangchuk river. Only have beautiful childhood memories of our stay there.
For those of us who have visited Bhutan and experienced its culture, hospitality, and values, this report is both inspiring and hopeful. We deeply wish for their progress, but above all, for their traditions to be preserved. For the good of humanity may the Bhutanese continue to thrive in happiness!
I traveled there for a month in 2011 and I can honestly say it changed my spirit and soul for the better. I hope the tenderness of Bhutan never changes.
Who would want to visit Bhutan? India, Nepal, China, they too have mountains and some Himalayan aesthetics. They also don't put on a regalia show (which does not belong in the 21st century), nor charge you a small fortune just for a few day long visa. In Bhutan, you can't even like, go around alone. You need some guide as a chaperone. So lame.
I’m currently in India, flying to Bhutan in just nine hours for a ten day tour. So excited to learn from this beautiful country! Update: I cried walking out of the plane. It’s impossible to put into words how beautiful it is here.
I am one of the lucky Americans who has visited Bhutan. It is one of the most amazing and peaceful places I have ever been. It is clean and the people extremely friendly. I wish them prosperity and all the happiness they can create.
In fact, Our Second Buddha, Guru Padmasambhava had blessed this peaceful Kingdom in the 8th Century. They have many precious, holy site and stories...... for those who wish to learn about Vajrayana Buddhism. Its mind boggling......🙏🪷☸️🪷😇🌈
As someone in the war zone, I feel happy and jealous that there are people that have their priorities straight in life. I usually get angry when I see money made on blood being spent on useless things, partying, Dubai, Grammys etc.. COP where 65000 people who flew in there try to convince the world that plastic is the problem, not wars they are waging. But this.. this is so precious, trying to take care of happiness, actual wellbeing, their people.. i don't know.. I sometimes don't want to live, but it makes me happy knowing there are people actually living a full life. I hope I get a chance to visit and pay respect to this beautiful country. Thank you for the episode.
I am in tears coz of envy on how excellent their leaders are 😢 PS....that quote "nature is not to be conquered but it is to be respected hits hard for mountain climbers ☺️🙏
I was in Bhutan a few weeks ago…actually, when the King was visiting Australia. I got a bit emotional seeing places that Leslie was visiting, that I also had visited…and hearing from the Bhutanese leaders and citizens. I’m hopeful that this wondrous place will continue to see prosperity and happiness…it certainly has left its mark on my heart.
i lived and worked in Bhutan from 2004 -09 and had a ringside seat during its transition to democracy. It was unhurried and well thought through. the transition, though tumultous in nature was smooth yet enthusiastic on ground. the governments subsequently elected seem clean and effective with a very low level of corruption. Bhutan seemed well on the way to an amazing future and that the government could do no wrong, It was bewildering and sad to hear about the exodus of young Bhutanese to Austrialia post covid. The twist in the tale is that it's forcing them to think out of the box and Bhutan has now conceptualised the GMC and the ‘1nation, 2systems’ concept. moving ahead yet holding on. Continuity and change. Great documentary btw. 'I bet the king loves this' !!

Surprised that they speak good English. Good for the king to embrace change, what a remarkable vision. People around the world will definitely know about Bhutan because of this. Mabuhay Bhutan - Cheers from your neighbour, the Philippines ❤
They are educated, don't be surprised. Us Americans need to be less ignorant and need to be more open-minded. We also need to be curious and we can learn a lot from people who are different from us.
@@honhuaho5960 Hey I don't mean that in a bad way. Never know much about Bhutan because as the docu says, they close themselves from the outside world. And no, I am not American.

I want to move there right now. What a beautiful place to live and to raise a family. Just a lovely story. May Bhutan be beautiful forever. May you stay unselfish and rich in love. Thank you.
Indeed a wonderful nation! A government who is serious on preserving its culture and natural resources while working on transformation for the Bhutanese. I am moved that he even visited and gathered the Bhutanese who lives or works in Australia now. May this endeavor of transformation succeed!
It’s unusual yet very profound to be going through comments beautifully written for my country, I had my heart touched and eyes full of happy tears. I feel blessed to be born in this country❤
Bhutanese are not motivated by money. They have mastered the art of life. They are not chasing anything, they are content with what they have as it should be. They make life look so so easy.
I am currently over seas earning in dollar. But my state of mind is depressed and sad. No happiness no matter how much I earn. Now I have come to realize how happy I was when I was back home in Bhutan. Life abroad is sad. Money can’t buy happiness that’s for sure.
What I love about Bhutan is it's policy of keeping 60% of it's land under forest cover, and it's rivers unpolluted. This will help Bhutan in a long run.Still I wish Bhutan had not started this experiment of Mindfulness city I feel that it may lead to a hefty spending of money.Good luck to Bhutan from a nature lover .
I am a Bhutanese at heart. Mindfulness city concept is one of my nearly impossible dreams. But the King here is literally implementing it. I am grateful there is still someone who would implement such a city for those who want to practice mindfulness in a serene environment conducive for faster spiritual growth. So, when the city is done in future, will visit for a medium stay, of course, for meditation as a yogi or nun. I want to help for the sustainability of the project if I could somehow. I also would like to suggest the city has strict rules or customs that are based on respect, e.g., not speaking loud or making loud noises, maybe in some (if not all) designated areas for actual meditation. Because tourists tend to make noises. Best if the whole city is suitable or is a haven for mindfulness practices with no loud noises. May the king and his lineage stay committed to the GNH concept. May the land of Bhutan, its people and the concept prosper and flourish till eons to come. May the city become a symbol of peace and prosperity in this tiring modern world.
Bhutan is the beacon of hope for the civilized sustainable world! And we Americans just chose the exact opposite… shame on us and best of luck to Bhutan ❤️🇧🇹
You nailed the perfect equation. Hope trump never learns that there is such a place as Bhutan; he'd want to buy it, deport everyone not white, and let corporations pollute and destroy it. Capitalism suggests those mountains need climbing and ski lodges, of course, and rivers need hotels, strip malls and rafting trips, etc. Don't forget the water parks. I sooooo hope Bhutan's path of enlightenment never gets sidetracked into capitalism.
I truly love places where things can coexist at the same time and still have gratitude for what they have. So beautiful and zen. Like a utopia. They have the complete right ideas!
@@Kahayuman Bhutan is the Only nation looking inward not outward.......their great motivation and aspiration is deeply rooted by the practicing of precious Vajrayana Buddhism.

@@ArmyyMiarmyyy You can't solve a problem like that and call yourselves the country of happiness. If that's a valid way then every country's ruling class could expell other dissatisfied communities and rule over small population who love the ruling class and then introduce democracy where almost everyone will embrace them
I am from a big Indian city but live in Sikkim, India which is just next to Bhutan. I have been to Bhutan twice and find people here in Sikkim are also have a similar mindset to live peacefully in harmony with nature just like their Bhutanese brothers. I think Buddhism plays a huge role in shaping the mindset of the people living in this region. I am not a Buddhist by birth but with every passing day as I understand its essence, I am slowly becoming one . I hope Bhutan remains strict with their policies of sustainable economic growth and discourage migration of city people like me, because majority of us dont understand this concept of happiness and just are focussed on materialistic things. Sikkim 30-40 years back was like Bhutan only, but now with uncontrolled tourism and the lure of money, the nature is getting destroyed. Dont want Bhutan to follow that path. Let it remain the last Shangrila on earth. Much love from India ❤️
Bhutan’s focus on reforestation and protecting the environment is admirable. Turning former farmland into healthy forests helps the planet and supports the country’s goals. But it’s important to remember that these lands were once home to the Lhotshampa community, many of whom were displaced. Recognizing their history and contributions can create healing and unity, showing that true progress includes both sustainability and reconciliation.
Yes, Bhutan is a protected land. The Lotus Born Buddha made sure to install power protective deities. Because Bhutan is a Vajrayana Buddhist country it can convert power negative energies into positive energies.
Do we have all the answers? Probably not. We’re human. And fallible. Just like people anywhere else. But in a world that is changing faster than anyone can comprehend, where wars, genocide and now nuclear posturing dominate headlines, where human intelligence withers shamefully in the face of AI and climate challenges, we in Bhutan are trying to forge a sensible way forward. In that sense, the new city is our beloved king’s solution to not just secure the future of Bhutan but to inspire the world. Rightfully so, we invite the world to visit, learn about us, teach us and collaborate with us in building a better tomorrow, for all of our sakes.❤
my goodness, bhutan is so freakn beautiful, and right in our south asian neighbourhood, its kinda sad how south asian nations haven’t been able to cultivate more cross border openness and exchange for our people love to Bhutan from Pakistan
I am indian. Currently lives mostly in gelephu. I see the amount of preparations going on for GMC and the King himself coming very often. I pray this projects takes off as quickly as possible.
That new city looks good. I want to go live there as an expat. Maybe it will be similar to Shenzhen in China, Aerocity in New Delhi, Abdali Blvd in Amman. A modern enclave in a developing country leading the country’ economic modernization, but in a wise and prudent way. Bhutanese know how to run a country, better than advanced nations and some emerging economies.
In the video they featured renders of what the city will look like, it'll look nothing like the cities you mentioned and that's a good thing. The city has been designed specifically within the fold of Bhutanese Buddhist culture
That is where I think I have mild dissent. One should live within a balance of natural order. Yes, I agree. However, we should as human beings have the ability to wield natural forces in a way that gives humanity more power than the forces of nature. That is just my opinion, and it is a very dangerous idea. I know this.
Still, Singapore is the template. When it comes to city development and master plan no one can beat Singapore. But I think Bhutan can. And I love Bhutan prohibits building these ugly skyscrapers like what Malaysia is doing. Instead, it takes it's lead with living harmoniously with nature. And I love the fact that they have a king who is entrenched with their culture and yet have a very progressive mind. I hope he succeeds in all his good endeavours for his country.
Asian, especially South Asian and Southeast Asian, nations absolutely admire Singapore. It is no surprise that so many governments and organisations still view Singapore as the model of development.
Singapore had one benevolent and visionary dictator that's why it worked, I favor democracy any day by the way. Because such people are born, not made, and is very very rare.
I am following on GMC, as I am a frequent visitor of Bhutan since long, what I was informed was they have hired the best of the best people in the world to do the job as envisioned by their King, and so every greedy business folks are handled well.
You know what real success looks like? Quality education, low infant mortality, freedom of religion, etc. congratulations on falling for this propaganda piece
Bhutan is a beacon for those of us awakening around the world. I may not make the physical journey myself, but the experience of trying not to be crushed by giants is one I am all too familiar with; one that we are all increasingly becoming more aware of. Their wisdom is invaluable to us in this time.
I love to visit in Bhutan maybe in the next 5 years from now. I am very admire on how they respect and protect their mother earth. It such a good role model in the modern times. ❤🇧🇹

In which year you stayed there. Because I am also from Chukha. Great to know this anyways ❤❤
Hi Jeff,
So nice to meet you.
🙏
Who would want to visit Bhutan? India, Nepal, China, they too have mountains and some Himalayan aesthetics. They also don't put on a regalia show (which does not belong in the 21st century), nor charge you a small fortune just for a few day long visa. In Bhutan, you can't even like, go around alone. You need some guide as a chaperone. So lame.
I wish success to this wonderful nation!

Me too. I think they are on to something there; that happiness is not just of the mind but also of the soul.

I am one of the lucky Americans who has visited Bhutan. It is one of the most amazing and peaceful places I have ever been. It is clean and the people extremely friendly. I wish them prosperity and all the happiness they can create.
I would love to visit and live there!
These Bhutanese truly live their lives following one of the Buddha’s teachings with wisdom, compassion, and peace.

Totally loved Bhutanese national dress. It's so beautiful. I wish my tailor could stitch it. The striped pattern is so unique.

I hope your king and leaders remember this... watching this clip, I fear they forgot 😢
Visited Bhutan and hike the Tiger’s Nest. Wonderful people and architecture was simply marvelous
It's worth it. They know what they're doing.
I am afraid, too. With the influx of "investments" this will, perhaps lead to ceding control and an infiltration of corruption. 😢😢😢😢
Love my bhutanese friends & co workers here in Australia ❤
😊I wish the Bhutanese much happiness. I hope to live to see the new project take fusion. May they all grow in prosperity and maintain their peace 🕊

You will find the same answers in Hinduism.. !!

Everyone looks so healthy and young........I guess thats the results when you try to limit stress. Good for them! I hope they succeed!
Nature is not something to be conquered. Beautiful.
Yes. Bhutan decided to look at Singapore as one of its models for its own nation but adapted!
It’s a good decision.
Asian, especially South Asian and Southeast Asian, nations absolutely admire Singapore. It is no surprise that so many governments and organisations still view Singapore as the model of development.
I don't think you understand their vision. It's not about anything materialistic. It's more inward.
Singapore had one benevolent and visionary dictator that's why it worked, I favor democracy any day by the way. Because such people are born, not made, and is very very rare.
I'd live there. What worries me is them looking for outside investors.. that's when things get more complicated... and the wrong people gain power.
Original Hawaii people are forced to leave because they can’t afford the costs created by investors from the actual USA.
I am following on GMC, as I am a frequent visitor of Bhutan since long, what I was informed was they have hired the best of the best people in the world to do the job as envisioned by their King, and so every greedy business folks are handled well.
