► Jonny’s Gofundme: gofund.me/6a7536fd This is the beginning of a 7-part Hawaii series. After making this video, I returned to my hotel with many different emotions coursing through me. One was of frustration that Lahaina still looks like this eight months after the fire, which is completely unacceptable. If this was a priority for the US government, things would look much differently. Through experience, I've realized that finding honest groups to donate to (while I'm sure some exist) are in the minority. Therefore, I have difficulty recommending things to you, since I have no idea where the money will land. Jonny didn't ask for it when we met up, so I decided if someone wants to give, the best place I can recommend is to Jonny and his family to help rebuild their home and businesses. If you're interested in doing so, here's his Gofundme: gofund.me/6a7536fd or Venmo: venmo.com/u/Jonathan-Varona-1
Aloha Peter 🤙🏽☺️ awesome you made it to Hawaii! I hope you have a really wonderful time! I have a friend that’s leaving there on Sunday😊 looking forward to seeing the beautiful islands. Mahalo.✌🏽☺️♥️
There's a youtuber from Lahaina Eric West. He's done a bunch of go fund me's directly to the individual each has their own account and have been interviewed. Each account seperate. He's honest. .I watched him for a few months but got sick of watching bureaucratic politicians. He has been asking hard questions. His name is Eric West he has a channel. He has been getting the little voices heard not business owners only but marginalized as well. He has asked alot of questions and is persistent. Challenging the establishment in a good way not belligerent. Good dude.
The disheartening truth is that the bank owns these firefighters' land. Four years from the purchase of $800,000 home, maybe less than $100 goes towards the principal.
And because of that they know it will be impossible to sustain so they will take it. This was a set up. "YOU WILL OWN NOTHING AND BE HAPPY." Because the gov' will own everything.
I'm also a Lahaina resident, owner of a home in the burn zone, and also lost my business in downtown Lahaina in the fire. Jonny did an excellent job outlining everything and was spot on about the situation here! Thank you for this video.
Thanks for commenting. I wish you the best. ✌❤ Do you think overdevelopment was part of the problem? The tourism/ AirBnb crowd is pushing hard to overdevelop the beautiful, rural, mountainous area in which my family lives. I worry about the wildfires, limited water, pollution, etc.
Maui Local here, I really appreciate you Peter for spreading awareness of what is happening in Lahaina and the process. When the fire broke out back in August nobody really knew what was happening in Lahaina. It was one of the most scariest days of my life, there was no communication coming in and out of Lahaina till around midnight I saw the video of front street on fire. After that video, it just kept getting worse and worse. My mom lived in Lahaina and the uncertainty to not knowing if she made it out was the worst 24 hours of my life. Fortunately she got out before it got to her place. It still haunts me to this day and my heart still aches for the lives lost.
I put on my T-shirt "Lahaina Strong" last night before bed and woke up this morning to see Peter's post on my UA-cam, wow. Then I read your comments and the horror and pain of this tragedy is still so fresh and real. 08/08/2023 should not be forgotten and I hope you and other families stay strong through all the obstacles ❤
I am so sorry for everything you all had to endure and still dealing with! It was sad to watch it all unfold from over here in the states knowing what was unfolding as it happened on many live streams. It was brutal to watch. And the things we saw live were horrific but a lot has been covered up and hidden from the mainstream media and the general public. I know Eric West raised close to $1 million for survivors at first and then it all went quickly to churches and other organizations. It was amazing when it all went directly to individuals who've been displaced. Many of us are still trying to help and definitely sharing the current state of things there in West Maui and how they plan to take the entire West Maui through imminent domain. Not many know if this.
@@THEGLASSMANSWORLD I believe its highly probable that the Governments intention was to seize West Maui property through Eminent Domain. However, if that IS the case, wouldnt/shouldnt the Residents and Business Owners in the desired area have been officially informed/given notice of the proposed acquisition either via letter/email or via a discussion in person with a Govt Dept Official/ Developer/ or Appraisal Officer and have just compensation offered for their properties? I wonder if there is any surviving proof that such dealings occurred prior to the razing of Lahaina? If so, that could prove invaluable. It would be especially "telling" if it was found that most of the Owner/Residents pushed back on the appraised amount/offer of compensation for their properties. But its likely that any written or emailed notices, were incinerated.
Peter’s videos are quickly becoming one of my favorite YT channels. No fluff, no politics, just Americans dealing with life. Thanks for the purity, Peter.
@Ginge1164 Well, United We Stand Divided We FALL.Till we remember that, this is over. I get it’s terrifying, but going about our lives doing nothing, is why the powers that be, know nothing will happen. I pray we wake up. Come together.
Does anyone else find it absolutely sickening that the victims of this disaster have to worry about money and such while or government is sending BILLIONS OF DOLLARS TO FOREIGN COUNTRIES to fund wars? Absolutely sickening!
Like the other person stated, it's all about that money!! Politicians don't give two shits about the people they serve, they want that money and they want war.
Jonny used to own the surfshack i taught at. wonderfully composed interview, sending much love to him, Aina and the kids, they've always been so calm and supportive. these incredible humans deserve all the help they can get because they help everyone in their path.
Did he & most of his guys or friends question the police etc when they were shutting down alternative paths and routes to escape causing so many un alive's? So... or were they helping them to facilitate the panic, confusion and chaotic circumstances? Just asking for our deceased friends on the island..
mainstream doesn't give a sh1t, their handlers that pay them (keeping them afloat, because their viewership sucks). Ther narratives they pushed are paid for by an evil the likes of which we have never seen before. 3rd time, the house was on fire. Sounds like a weapon was being used and was h3ll bent on turning every last house to incinerated powder
Billions going out of this country and to people not from here, and here we have this. It makes no sense. Thanks for shining a big light on this Peter.
@@chromebomb My comment is related to tax money leaving this country when it is needed here.I am in the real estate business, so I probably know way more about property rights than the average person, but my point had ZERO to due about property rights.
@@kimmy0868 Not my point! But if you want to make that argument, then I guess you would also say," Well I guess these other countries that want money & weapons from the US should have spent more money on their own military.Oh well! Too bad!" But of course you would not say that.....right?
Aloha Jonny me and my crew did the erosion control at your property,is nice to know that we were able to help you and your ohana in some way,God bless !
Leave it up to Peter he goes to Hawaii and heads straight to the burn zone to show the real. Saturday mornings with Peter is a great start to the day show em!! 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸!!
The natives there had just won a 20 yr old courtcase and were SUPPOSED to start COLLECTING PAYMENTS a month or two after the atax. And it was in the millions, so what happened with THAT?
Top Videographer Award has to be Santenello Productions. Your body of work is so diverse it's amazing. A man with a camera out performs the traditional industry. Keep it up and as always, we look forward to where you will take us next.❤
You are 100% correct. I fear that platforms will start demonetizing or outright cancelling the channels that explore TRUTH. Caving to obvious Marxist tactics.
John Pelletier, the chief of police was also the incident commander for the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting the deadliest mass shooting in US history. The management of that situation was badly botched and many died needlessly. There is also Governor Green's anti-housing proclamation that came out in July which could essentially appropriate land from residents if the government needs to rezone. The of course there is the 75 million housing project proposed by the Department of Hawaiian Homelands in January, 2023 that would be built of the same section of Lahaina that just burned down. There have also been discussions about Maui becoming a poster child for the 15 minute city concept which would obviously require significant clearing of land and rebuilding of infrastructure. Most notably of all there are the sirens that never sounded, the fire hydrants that had no water, and of course one of the largest military base in the country less than 100 miles away that failed to deploy a single piece of equipment to rescue those who leaped into the ocean to escape the fire.
Are you kidding? Report on anything that might seem negative towards this administration? Their sole purpose is to paint the administration as demi-gods.
I am so glad you have gone to Maui. This will bring Lahaina the attention it deserves that the Main Stream Media has remained silent on. Thank you Peter. It's Citizen journalist''s like you who get the real word out to people.
@@d.martinez-rodriguez333 I deleted my comment, but yeah, south Louisiana is an interesting place. What people don't understand is north Louisiana and south Louisiana are 2 totally different cultures. We don't all ride around in boats and have gators in our yards.
The mainstream talked about this tragedy for weeks. I remember a 60 Minut4s segment a few months after. What are you on about? They can't talk about it every day of every week.
Kind of late to this party, so no one will see this, but as a survivor of a major natural disaster, a Cat 5 hurricane that wiped out many square miles around my house, I can say that this mans experience is almost universal. It takes a LONG time to rebuild a devastated area of this size. 1 year after surviving the hurricane, my town was still very far from being rebuilt - lots of buildings still destroyed, many businesses that never came back, etc. 10 years later, there were still some houses that were not repaired. Just my 2 cents having been there done that. Took 2 years before our house was rebuilt. Being on an island only serves to complicate the process. That being said, he's spot on when he talks about BILLIONS in aid to other countries while our people suffer here at home.
Two months after this video was posted most of the lots have now been cleared by the EPA and ACOE which is a similar timeline as Paradise CA. Which is pretty good considering how isolated HI is. As the firefighter said the government is damned no matter what. If they went faster ten years from now we'd be hearing about how negligent the feds were rushing the clean up and leaving residents vulnerable, cancer cases and lawsuits etc.
Exactly! He is doing work that few others are doing! And somehow he has managed not to be shut down like one would expect! I don’t know how he’s done it but he’s done it!

A year after I moved from Maui I lost my home in the fire that took Paradise. You are so right about your mental state. Unfortunately PTSD lasts much longer. Yes the insurance is an important issue. Mine was up to date. FEMA gave us 700 and with insurance got nothings else. Always get full replacement value on insurance. I was okay but so many were not. My advice is get an independent adjuster to go over your policy to make sure you get what you need. Not sure about Hawaii…but because Paradise was declared a disaster, they’re supposed to pay you all of your insurance to its limits, including your housing. This is what they did for Paradise. I sold my lot paid off my mortgage and moved on. It would have been years before I could have built. My hearts go out to you and all In Lahaina. So sorry for your loss.
So very sorry you lost your home in Paradise… l think you made a very informed and wise decision in selling and moving on. No one can live in limbo for years wondering if they’ll be able to rebuild. I hope all is well now; you are healing and are in a better frame of mind, and happy place…🙂
Any advice for a renter in Lahaina? The vast majority in Lahaina were renters and we’re having insurance troubles too. My insurance did a partial payout and said the rest can’t be covered since I didn’t have receipts or pics of everything. Everything burned so idk how I could get that…
I am from Georgia and was completely shocked by what took place on Maui. The images are simply unbelievable. I have never been there and at my age, it seems unlikely that I will ever make it, but my wife and I are compelled to try to help. After the fires were finally out, It took a couple of days for us to make a connection to a local resident who we could directly sponsor, but we were eventually successful. It's not as much as we would like to send, but we have been sending the interest from our savings account to a particular local family every month. We plan to do this indefinitely and are more than happy to do it. I am hopeful that these few dollars every month are helping them a little and the money is making some impact on the local economy. Lahaina and Maui deserve better than what happened, so help if you can. This is a great channel. Please keep up the good work.
God bless you. We need good people like you to support local ohanas. We are on Hawaii Island and do what we can as well. Aloha and God bless you always. PS: Hope you make it out here someday. Come visit us on Hawaii Island.
I lost my house in a Santa Barbara wildfire in a similar manner. It was a minor fire up in the mountains and then the wind started blowing 70 miles an hour down canyon and my house was gone in a matter of hours along with all my neighbors. Then the county Published how they were going to clean things up rapidly and streamline the permitting process and help the community rebuild. And the insurance companies took out large ads saying they were there to help. Meanwhile, in the background, the county was tripping all over their feet and they absolutely did not streamline the permitting process, we experienced a barrage of ridiculously frustrating delays and all kinds of permitting nonsensical hoops to jump through. The insurance companies literally screwed me over in the backside, good contractors were hard to find and there was a wealth of people that were more than happy to rip you off in your time of need. Almost a year later virtually nothing had been done, I wasn't even allowed to clean up my own damn yard! Surviving the wild fire was easy, the real trauma comes when you try to get back on your feet and simply rebuild. It was an awful process.
So sorry for that loss. Glad you were able to get out. People really have no idea of the power of a fire, especially when you add extreme winds. (And evidenced by some of the wacko comments here.) Government bureaucracy is a pain on a good day. Can't imagine in your situation. All the best.
Yes, I remember reading about that horrific fire and horses that were burned alive also. And sounds a lot like the Paradise fire. All three have the same common thing : INTENTIONAL!!!! I’m so very very sorry. I cannot think of lesser things being worse than fire. Who is next ??
It's not whacko lv4ever. You better grow up and realize that the government is under the control of demonic psychopaths. I'm sorry that that's hard to hear and I know it's scary but it's the absolute truth and you need to wake up to it because we need every citizen to wake up to it before it's too late.
The firefighter has a mind of steel. Probably because of his training, and because he has seen others lose everything long before this fire. I wish him the best.
Thank you for bringing attention to this. Just after the fires when people were asking questions they were told "This is not the time to ask those questions". It doesn't seem like the answers will be coming anytime soon.
Some of them are starting to unravel. Just this week we were told what the Maui emergency manager was texting someone else as Lahaina was in flames. Infuriating is putting it lightly.
Each land owner could have been allowed to park a travel trailer or some type of camper on their land and allowed to rebuild their homes while living in a trailer/camper. many people do this on the mainland and yet the Hawaiians are not allowed to do this. Ironically the RV industry has an overstock problem from when the dealers stopped ordering due to the slow down of demand in 2022. The federal government could have used the billions given to Ukraine and Israel and Taiwan to purchase billions in RVs and pay to have them delivered to Lahaina. The RV industry would benefit and the citizens of Lahaina would benefit. Ukrainians have $600 billion of our American tax dollars that pays for their pensions....That blew my mind when I found that out. Lahaina families got a 1 time payment of $700.
"Allowed to" there's your's and everyone else's problem, you believe some beuracratic pukes have the "authority" to allow or not allow certain things, your belief in them is a hallucination.
blame the Brandon administration. $1 trillion to Ukraine, but only $700 for Lahaina residents. Trump 2024. He will fix this and put ALL Americans first
Hey Peter. I’m an electrical contractor on the West Coast, and there are a lot of barriers that make the reconstruction difficult. Ships going US port to US port require all US crews, so shipping goods is difficult without a waiver from the government (this was also an issue rebuilding Puerto Rico). Even getting parts to Maui, only Hawaiian electrical contractors are allowed to work in Hawaii, with Hawaiian trained journeymen (must have completed apprenticeships in Hawaii). I’d love to send a crew for a month, but even if someone totally paid there way, they couldn’t work without relaxing protections which, normally protecting Hawaiian and US workers, make the rebuild difficult. Lahaina has had a special place in my heart the last 35 years, I wish I could help. Thank you for making this video giving an inside view.
@@TexTRUTH It's like that in a lot of states. It depends on if the state has reciprocity with another state. If you have say an electricians license in one state but want to work in another then if that state has reciprocity with your state you can apply for a license in that state without having to go through courses and exams. Hawaii has no reciprocity with any other state so a licensed electrician from another state cannot work there without going through all the courses and exams to get a Hawaiian license. Probably the same with plumbers there and building contractors. There's quite a few states without reciprocity with another state and the ones that do only have it with certain states. How it was explained to me by an electrician is that some states have different codes than others so they have a reciprocity with states that have the same codes. If that's the case then I guess the different codes thing would apply to other things as well.
My family loves Lahaina and visits yearly. We actually had just left Maui a week prior to the fire. Our first and last meal of our trip is always Mala. Our family resides in Colorado and unfortunately 2 years ago a historic wildfire swept through our community, burning thousands of homes to the ground as well as businesses. Within 6-8 months most of the debris was cleaned up and today, 2 years later, 80% of homes are nearly rebuilt. I am utterly heartbroken and in pure disbelief to see nothing recovered or rebuilt for the people of Lahaina. The recovery and care provided to the locals and natives is deplorable.
These are NOT wildfires, but DEWATACKS by our own filthy gvt. There is far too much evidence to deny it, and the monsters been doing it since and incl the twrz. All for the evilUNplanz..Compare the maps to see how they so often miraculously MATCH.
As an outsider of the US (Southeast Asian here), Peter's videos have really opened my eyes to the true story of American lives across the states. Thank you so much, Peter, and all the local that have opened my eyes. The USA is known to many Southeast Asians as the greatest country in the world. But why is it that the Federal Government of the "greatest country" not properly assisting their own citizens and taxpayers? Why is the government sending money abroad when many of their citizens need the money more? That's insanity...
Once $ is wired out via corrupt leaders, much of it qets wired back into politician banks. No accountability. Americans are slaves to the world. Illegals now getting $20,000 in food stamps, free housing, free health-care while our eldery and vets get $23.00 month a month and can't afford housing or medicine. It is ridiculous. Biden and his masters destroyed our nation. We have drugs and criminals coming in freely. Pray for our nation.🙏
Because Ukraine is a perfect place to launder money. Corrupt, former Soviet communist country. They instigated a war by NATO expansion, and we all know wars are good for business for the people at the top. Lahaina, there's no money in this. This is why brandon gave them $700 while $600 billion was given to Ukraine, which they don't need to pay back. Trump 2024 to drain the swamp!
I was there at Lahaina Beach Resort (as a tourist) the morning the fires happened. It was beyond windy. The power was out in the whole town and everyone was scrambling at the Safeway to grab food and lines were long everywhere that was open. It honestly felt like the world was ending in a way. After my unsuccessful attempt to get food I had to find like a hidden road to leave town to grab some food in the next town over, because they blocked majority of the exits in and out of town. I don’t know how or why; but Lady Luck provided me a way out of town before it was on fire. When I was driving back to Lahaina, it was blocked off because later that evening the fires had started again and you know the rest; that night I slept on the road that led into town in my rental car that night. All my belongings are in the hotel I was staying in, ironically; the place I was staying was one of the only buildings that survived the fire (so regardless if I had left or not I would have been okay, but who knows), I left all my belongings in my room and apparently they are still in the hotel but they won’t let anyone in even after 8 months. It’s so odd that it’s been this long and no one has helped any of the locals, it’s sad because they want to do something but it seems whoever is responsible is making it impossible for them. I hope they are able to recover very soon, much love ❤
@@wildflower7321thank you but compared to what the locals lost I’m doing well. It was mainly my travel backpack, clothes, my journals and my favorite guitar; also, a bizarre coincidence, it was a Taylor guitar made of out Koa wood (an Hawaiian tree), last I remember it was just sitting on the bed where I left her and I hope it’s still there for obvious reasons.
But who really are the people of Lahaina ? Just transplants from the mainland or even overseas. As far as i know the REAL (native) HAWAIIANS have been priced out of most of Hawaii for decades !!!!
@@mteokay1246 Same can be said for many areas of the United States. A lot of reasons why. Doesn't appear to be any relief on the horizon. Corporations are now buying real estate and putting middle/lower class Americans in a perpetual cycle of renting.
Dude everyone is protected by their own “type”. You think the local bois from this place really care about the people visiting? Probably only their money.
Hawaii government needs a huge corruption investigation. Immense amounts of money change hands at a government level without the will of the people. Voting is a racially charged popularity contest. True that's the entire country but it's sad when it's your own home.
@@jakester455I agree. From the governor, to the mayor, police chief, water agency and electric company who I feel are all corrupt, then the 3-letter agencies investigating and we know that’ll go nowhere. The mayor had attended a meeting a few months prior to the fire on making Lahaina a “smart city.” I pray for the local home and business owners who will have to sell if they drag this out much longer.
This guy has a very balanced and healthy way of thinking, he gets the nuance that comes with any situation. I really hope that Lahaina get's whatever help it wants and rebuilds for all of those who lost. Such a beautiful place that needs to be treasured.
I looked for the comment but didnt see it. Hundreds of billions to fund and continue funding war. Hundreds of billions in war equipment left behind in Afghanistan. Yet we wont help these folks be made whole again? The government should ABSOLUTELY step in as a stop gap from what the insurance covers and what the actual cost of being made whole again is.

Mahalo Peter for being on the ground in Lahaina. I was born on Oahu, raised in Kona, and currently living in Nor Cal. What I respected most about your piece was your ability to not promote and politicize the situation. You come across as respectful, caring, and let a local kamaaina speak his (and his families) truth. From a Kanaka Maoli perspective I appreciate your effort and your restraint . Showing the fire victims on the fence on the end of the video brought tears to my eyes. I am so touched by this video and had no idea what these people are still going through. Thank you, Peter, for opening our eyes to this devastating situation. My prayers and funds will go towards helping these people!

I’m in Kauai right now and literally thought to myself @PeterSantenello needed to come do a Hawaii video series. There’s a lot of great stories to be shared here. Thanks for the work you continue to do in telling the untold stories through the people who lived them.
Peter, your show is absolutely, hands down my favorite show on UA-cam or anywhere, for that matter. You have an unmatched natural ability to get people to open up, be welcoming and TRUST YOU to tell the truth and do the right thing with their stories. I’m a commercial and documentary producer and I’ve traveled to several countries (definitely not as many as you), and my favorite part has always been to get invited to dinner at one of the local’s homes in a third world country or in the inner cities of the United States. I have found these people to be the purest, most giving and honest Humans. Definitely more than the many incredibly wealthy individuals, A-list celebrities and politicians, I’ve encountered in my life and business. I can tell that you have worked very hard to placed yourself in this blessed position to meet so many people and experience so many cultures. Keep doing what you’re doing. It really helps us all realize how alike we are and just want to love, to be loved, and to support our family and friends… YOUR SHOW IS IMPORTANT‼️ I’d love to buy you lunch (or dinner) if you’re ever in the Los Angeles area and find yourself with some time to meet a born and raised Angeleno.
Love this video. The gentleman showing you around is different from your recent posts: straight shooter, serious... set the right tone for the subject matter. Thank you for taking your platform and giving a voice and real on-the-ground coverage to U.S. citizens who have been forgotten... Great example of so many issues: govt red tape, illogical solutions, unfairness of situations, environmental repercussions... sigh...

I just can’t even imagine. I always fought and struggled in my life to keep my family with roof and food, I can’t even imagine losing your home this way.
In 2022, I spent three weeks in Maui, and most of that was in Lahaina. I went to Jonny’s surf shop, and I spent time talking to one of his employees about surfing, being new to sport; despite her strong opinion to do a lesson, I told her I’d figure it out. When I realized that was Jonny’s shop in this video, all those memories came flooding back. My buddy and I spent a lot of time in town, we slept in a van on the beach just outside of Lahaina, we ate the amazing food, basked in the sun, interacted with the locals, made friends, and drank in every single moment. It broke my heart when I heard what had happened to the community of Lahaina. It is almost by Providence I would find myself the following year in Medical Lake with the state as a wildland firefighter fighting the Medical Lake fire. Although I don’t know Jonny, I feel a sense of kindred spirit to him being as close as I was to his business, his community, and his hometown. There is a lot of emotion thinking about this topic, but what I come away with is realizing that being close to people is one thing, but community goes beyond oneself and knowing others; it requires investing and contributing to the communion of people as a whole, through love, and through selflessness- and that’s the Gospel. I pray that for the community of Lahaina. I have seen the community of Medical Lake come together, and I have seen that area, just as Jonny said, they have grown and people are moving back into their homes. There’s a lot of powers at be, a lot of agendas, both evil and good, and despite it all, we have to ask ourselves through these scenarios that we view from afar on our screens, “What would I do?” Just as the Boy Scout motto says, “Be prepared,” we ourselves need to be ready for what may come to our communities like Lahaina, Medical Lake, and so many more communities in 2023, and now this year in 2024. There’s so much that needs to happen in Lahaina, and I pray they will get the help they honestly deserve. @PeterSantenello, thank you. The algorithm did something right for once, and I stumbled across your video. Thank you, and God bless you. Jonny, I doubt you may read this, but I just wanted to say thank you for all you are doing, and being the man and husband that your wife and kids look up to, leading your family courageously through this season. I pray that God will show His mighty work through you, that those in need that you interact with will be fed, clothed and healed because of your leading in the face of turmoil. May the Gospel go forth. Amen.
Yep. were any of us to try to adopt the same attitude during any of our own personal catastrophes, we would be doing really well. And get through it easier!
He is calm and open minded which is very good on many levels . That being said maybe a little bit naive on government and corperate ( Black Rock) tactics. 😐
Calmness has nothing to do with being a coward, weak or passive. Calmness helps one logically navigate tough decisions, which is what he’s doing. Just bc he has control over his emotions doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel anger, etc.
This channel shows what the media won't and doesn't cover. Peter and his wife do incredible work to bring light to every hidden corner of America. Thanks!
Peter, 8months has passed since the fires and literally zero progress…This really annoys me, I was blown away when I watched this video. I cannot imagine the amount of pain and frustration that this has caused many people in the Lahaina community. Our government needs to be more responsible and take action immediately to help those who are suffering and struggling with this tragedy. I’m so glad that you are there and that you have enlightened the world that so much more work and support is needed for the displaced families. Please continue to be the voice for the families that are struggling and hopefully they will get the relief they need and deserve.
I haven't watched the entire video yet, but I hope you touch on the subject regarding all of the children that disappeared mysteriously during all of this.
It would be tempting to say they burned up, but, looking at all the areas that ended up untouched, I don’t think that’s the case. I’d actually be willing to say that those kids are the REASON the fire was started! Yes I said what I said.
Great to hear a resident and a firefighter talk about the real issues and struggles thanks for sharing brother and I hope this video helps to show us all what is happening and not happening and to find solutions
Jonny is wizened to realities. You can hear that in how he speaks and the words he uses. And he is in the middle of it. Fortunately for him (as far as we know) he and his wife didn't lose and family members. Peter, again, you were able to attract the resource to bring another perspective that most of us only experience in the news - at best second or third-hand. Thanks to Jonny and to you for bringing this to us.
Strange that he downplayed the need for greater govt aid though, and narrow attribution of molten metal objects that occurred thru the fire zone as related to ammo storage, and a general attribution of shifting winds as determining the fate of certain structures. Overall, his narrative contained conspicuous gaps and a broad accommodation of official explanation. And at odds with the observations of other locals. The main things are plain things: blue objects intact, durable metals melted on the fringe of the fire zone, FEMA stayed (still stays ?) at luxury hotels ! 700$ 1 time payment to displaced residents, all that military capability nearby to assist then & now! Etc etc etc.
This is the definition of true journalism!!! 👏🏼 👏🏼 History in the making! Thank you for your impeccable work and for reporting on what's important to Americans!!
Peter, not sure if you read all the comments to your vids, but your recent visits to Maui struck me close. My son had lived on Maui for 13 or 14 years, mostly upcountry. He was in Mariposa, California, for our family reunion when the fire occurred, and couldn't get back for several weeks. After being back a few months, he said he couldn't stay there anymore, there were too many factors, from financial to emotional, that prevented that. We had lived on the Big Island, still have many friends there, and what you captured, with Alika, really captured the essence of what it was to experience Hawaii, Aloha, and it's real spirit. Mahalo.
Necessary if extremely painful video to watch. Brings out a lot of sadness and anger. Our so-called "leaders" -of both parties - have failed not only the people of Lahaina but the entire country and we should not be giving one penny to any other country while this special place still lays in ruins. Prayers and best wishes are with Jonny, his family, and the people of Lahaina and once again, thanks to Peter for covering the important situations that apparently few if anyone one else will.
I agree, this one was really important and needed to be done. This video could be used as a tool for fundraising. Peter is honestly the best at what he does.
Agree! Our corrupt government has always given OUR money away to help other countries while neglecting the citizens of this country! Other countries that are wealthy aren’t paying their fair share either! Enough!! America First!!!
Yes this tragedy is an absolute failure to the US governments response to safeguarding and helping its own people. I dont think enough people realize how serious the governments lackluster response to this situation is and what it spells out for the possibility of an "Event" such as this happening in a larger area on the "Mainland" . Yet we can send 100s of Billions to foreign countries/proxies. Terrifying stuff in my opinion
Thank you so much for sharing and bringing attention to this Peter. I live on Maui, but haven't been to see the burn zone outta respect. I have displaced family friends living in a bus in my driveway. Its a very sad state of affairs 😢
Grateful you made it out of Lahain ok. I do hope you got yourself an attorney in order to get as much $$$ in order to rebuild your home & biz. God bless you always.
Despite me living on the other side of the country, this entire event caused me so much heartache and outrage for everyone who has suffered because of what they were subjected to endure at the hands of a variety of insidious individuals.. from the beginning, I started taking notes and compiled a list to share across social media sites and a multitude of YT channels, in hopes of getting people to see that things were not as we have been told by the MSM.. I will continue to follow what is going on in Lahaina and continue sharing my list as well.. My heartfelt prayers, thoughts and love goes out to all who have been affected by this devastating catastrophe.. ~Red flags and questionable aspects about the Maui and Lahaina wildfires: 1) Police barricaded exits and sent people back into the fires, claiming they were just following orders 2) All alarms/sirens were silent, even though they're said to be some of the best warning systems in the world 3) Water was cut off by city management, preventing firefighters from having access to water in fire hydrants 4) Multiple things such as cars, table umbrellas and roofs on some homes that were bright blue in color, just happened to be untouched by the fire despite everything around them being destroyed 5) There are at least 12 standard size school buses and about 2-3 small buses missing, although school was supposed to be closed due to there being no power, that have yet to be found in any of the debris. ALSO, the parking lot where all of the buses were parked during the fires, was completely untouched even though everything around the lot was burned beyond measure 6) The chief of police(who is also the coroner, despite not having proper credentials to perform such a job) is "coincidentally" the same individual who was in charge of investigating the Las Vegas mass shooting 7) FEMA delayed help to those in need, and confiscated all supplies, food and water that was being donated by citizen outsiders because it wasn't approved by FEMA 8) Governor Josh Green trying to pass an eminent domain proclamation to grant him authority to the land 9) City officials building a black fence around the destruction to block people from being able to take video footage, as well as prohibiting drones from being used for video footage 10) At least 1,000-1,200 children unaccounted for, yet the city officials have yet to confirm this publicly 11) Officials refusing to allow citizens to return to their homes so they can assess the damages and try to salvage what they can 12) Officials choosing to spread a vinyl acetate co polymer glue substance over the burned areas, which takes months to breakdown and wash away, instead of just allowing the ash to wash away naturally 13) There is video footage of school buses being evacuated during the fires, despite schools being closed and other people who were trying to flee being told to turn around by police
Amazing journalism work you’re doing here. You’re actually reporting everything as is. I appreciate there is no narrative being pushed. You’re recording and documenting and letting us decide. You deserve way more credit than these giant news organizations.
I want to thank Johnny, the firefighter, for taking the time to share with the rest of us what you guys are really going through over there... Stay strong, stay healthy, and our prayers are with you. Also, as someone who's been through something like this ( and watching this brought tears to my eyes ) I can tell you that you are suffering from post-traumatic stress, as you probably already know ... and one of the things you can do to heal from all of this is to share your story with others as you have done in this video. Thank you both.
I remember visiting this town two weeks before the fires. It’s hard to describe the devastation and heartbreak into words, as well as the frustration and pain for those that have lost everything and are still waiting. Thank you for posting this video and sharing the transparency.
From someone who used to drive a truck for a demolition company. 8 months is unacceptable. Every piece of property should be clear by now. So these people can rebuild and get back to normal. They are dragging their feet for a reason. We could haul i full 2 story house in 4 loads. Theres no reason they dont have atleast 10 properties a day cleared.
My thoughts and prayers are will everyone affected by the fires. Thank you for sharing this. It is hard for people who do not or did not live there to comprehend the devastation, not only to the land, but to the people... it is massive.
Hawaii's government people has always ignored the Plight of the local and indigenous people and the fire was a way to focus attention from the problems to concentrating on the fire.
Hi Peter thanks for making this video. We lost our community of Paradise California. It's been 5 years now. Your tour guide and his family are the best of us, I can't believe his composure! My heart breaks for their community as it breaks for ours.
First I start to think about the wars we are funding , the lack of knowledgeable people to get this moving , but of course the lack of support for the loss of life , I’ve truly forgot about this fire and I feel horrible about that , great job Peter this is so important to get people reminded about this 🇺🇸🇺🇸
10 years ago, my wife and I exchanged vows in Lahaina, and it holds a special place in our hearts. Our thoughts and prayers are with the residents of Lahaina. Wishing for a speedy recovery for all.

This is the beginning of a 7-part Hawaii series.
Thanks Peter. There is a guy named HawaiiRealEstate who can help you get more information...
It's a shame they would rather give billions to fund wars, but not help our own people.
Goverment lazer, no fire puppet
There's a youtuber from Lahaina Eric West. He's done a bunch of go fund me's directly to the individual each has their own account and have been interviewed. Each account seperate. He's honest. .I watched him for a few months but got sick of watching bureaucratic politicians. He has been asking hard questions. His name is Eric West he has a channel. He has been getting the little voices heard not business owners only but marginalized as well. He has asked alot of questions and is persistent. Challenging the establishment in a good way not belligerent. Good dude.
Still having to pay a mortgage on a property that no longer exists, and not yet allowed to rebuild on land you own! Complete and utter madness.
What law does the government use to enforce such a thing?? Insane
He mentioned during the course of the video that mortgage payments were suspended, but he observed that the clock would run out on those suspensions.
The disheartening truth is that the bank owns these firefighters' land. Four years from the purchase of $800,000 home, maybe less than $100 goes towards the principal.
That’s the WEF orders for you own nothing and be happy that’s their policy and corrupt governments fallow too the letter
And because of that they know it will be impossible to sustain so they will take it. This was a set up. "YOU WILL OWN NOTHING AND BE HAPPY." Because the gov' will own everything.
I’ve only been watching for 2 min and Peter has already covered more of this disaster than any news organization.
The MSM will not show this because it exposes the utter failure of our Govt. Which has done nothing to help these people.
Indeed
Isn’t that sad how they covered it up????!!!!!!

I'm also a Lahaina resident, owner of a home in the burn zone, and also lost my business in downtown Lahaina in the fire. Jonny did an excellent job outlining everything and was spot on about the situation here! Thank you for this video.
Praying for All of you, my in laws live in Maui half the year. Glad this is getting out to more people. We should be helping all of you!
WHy have you not petitioned a recall of the Mayor and town Council members? They are not listening to the people.
Nothing natural about the fire
Thanks for commenting. I wish you the best. ✌❤ Do you think overdevelopment was part of the problem? The tourism/ AirBnb crowd is pushing hard to overdevelop the beautiful, rural, mountainous area in which my family lives. I worry about the wildfires, limited water, pollution, etc.

Paradise california the same. Still videos of the blue beams from the sky going around.
This is not a priority of the Biden administration.
I'm so sorry you had to go through this and all of the emotional, mental, and physical pain that continues

Everything burned so idk how I could get that…
This man is incredibly humble and well spoken.

How much was your house worth, how much did you pay for it?
This is totally different. Oprah burned their houses.
The firefighter has a mind of steel. Probably because of his training, and because he has seen others lose everything long before this fire.

Thank you for bringing attention to this. Just after the fires when people were asking questions they were told "This is not the time to ask those questions". It doesn't seem like the answers will be coming anytime soon.

Our government doesn't give a shit about helping the RV industry or those employeed by it or helping it's citizens that have lost everything.

It sounds like this would need the Hawaii state government to ease restrictions under some kind of emergency order, then?
why only Hawaiian electrical contractors??
@@TexTRUTHYes, I thought Hawaii was the US. It is but it isn't?
Its like taiwan. Its ours but it isn't
WOW, you are very lucky to have been rebuilt. What a thing to go through.

Peter, again, you were able to attract the resource to bring another perspective that most of us only experience in the news - at best second or third-hand.

~Red flags and questionable aspects about the Maui and Lahaina wildfires:
1) Police barricaded exits and sent people back into the fires, claiming they were just following orders
2) All alarms/sirens were silent, even though they're said to be some of the best warning systems in the world
3) Water was cut off by city management, preventing firefighters from having access to water in fire hydrants
4) Multiple things such as cars, table umbrellas and roofs on some homes that were bright blue in color, just happened to be untouched by the fire despite everything around them being destroyed
5) There are at least 12 standard size school buses and about 2-3 small buses missing, although school was supposed to be closed due to there being no power, that have yet to be found in any of the debris. ALSO, the parking lot where all of the buses were parked during the fires, was completely untouched even though everything around the lot was burned beyond measure
6) The chief of police(who is also the coroner, despite not having proper credentials to perform such a job) is "coincidentally" the same individual who was in charge of investigating the Las Vegas mass shooting
7) FEMA delayed help to those in need, and confiscated all supplies, food and water that was being donated by citizen outsiders because it wasn't approved by FEMA
8) Governor Josh Green trying to pass an eminent domain proclamation to grant him authority to the land
9) City officials building a black fence around the destruction to block people from being able to take video footage, as well as prohibiting drones from being used for video footage
10) At least 1,000-1,200 children unaccounted for, yet the city officials have yet to confirm this publicly
11) Officials refusing to allow citizens to return to their homes so they can assess the damages and try to salvage what they can
12) Officials choosing to spread a vinyl acetate co polymer glue substance over the burned areas, which takes months to breakdown and wash away, instead of just allowing the ash to wash away naturally
13) There is video footage of school buses being evacuated during the fires, despite schools being closed and other people who were trying to flee being told to turn around by police
Your efforts are useless and a complete waste and help no one. Get a life.
We visited Lahaina in April 2017. It was such an amazing little town with so much life. This fire was the definition of a tragedy
By tragedy you mean arson and murder.
a little town with 2 millions tourists each year.
And it makes it worse to know it was done on purpose!! 😞
@@maxmeier532Well luckily they're not all here at the same time...
Hawaii is one of the most beautiful places on earth. This is so sad on many levels.
DEW Weapons
This guy is a solid dude. Thoughts and prayers to all the people who are going through this.
Stupid Hawaiian laws mean no one else can work there.
