- Local window washer, Jonathan Herzog filmed the Front Street roadblock at 5:30 p.m. the day of the fire. At the same time, evacuees were fleeing into the ocean.
Police turned that entire town into a kill zone.

I've never seen anything like this in all my years of emergency management. In an ongoing disaster, police are to open all possible routes away from danger, including contraflow traffic lanes with police convoys. No exit routes are to be blocked.
In WW2 people were herded by train to their deaths. 2023 it was roadblocks.
You should hear about how the police tried to hand out placards to residents at an event they created a week later (for traveling through checkpoints) The program lasted for 1 hour before they shut it down and blamed non-residents for it failing.

Quite possibly the most corrupt action by government officials in an emergency situation. The lack of planning, safety procedures and actions of first responders was not only put on full scale but demonstrated the value of human life by those in those positions. There was a clear escape route over powerlines that were safe to drive over or around and they had been de-powered for HOURS!. Certainly long enough for police to be aware and to direct traffic through to safety.

Actually he WAS going to shop on his way home. Lāhainā is no stranger to wildfires, people are used to seeing them, however on this day the winds caused the fire to move quickly & he changed his plans to ‘just survive’…. and the police clearly were trying interfere in those plans.

I watched his video as soon as it was uploaded… little did he know how important his footage would be. I was, am still shocked at what he went through and how everything was blocked at every turn!
