As 11, i would say: "Communicate with your players. Alot." Praise/Criticize performances and training(loan players aswell). Even if you sometimes piss them off, its good way to build bond with them and spot troublesome players you might want let go for better good. Getting player morale down by harsh aftermatch talk isnt that bad if its player that tends to be complacent in every match and doesnt respond to demanding feedback. Just show him who's boss here, then build trust slowly again. Bend or go.
@Hudson Hamman Having assistant with high motivating gives you better advice how you should approach teamtalks, but you should build up knowledge of team. Its sometimes difficult to predict, but there are points you should consider like pre-match odds, average team morale, match importance, assistant feedback(pre-match, because it tells you what players are potentionaly complacent, players that are new to team and need gentlier handling because they are nervous), match score, players ratings, players body language, etc. Thats were personal bond between players and you helps, as they will react better if they like you and vice versa.
The only thing i might add, if in pre season you train 3 tactics (especially first season) it takes an age to get familiar, so start initially with one then add another, once thats a bit more familiar add another - by the time you add tactic 3, tact 1 should now be close to fluid. It's the best way to split your training time during pre season.
I do a couple of these already, but the ones I haven't been have blown my mind - PROGRESS GRAPHS! This is great, and even the "obvious" stuff is always worth repeating. Top marks for this vid!
The stay calm note is something I had to learn myself and it helped SO much. The most important thing to remember. Back in the day of discs, I sent a copy of FM flying down the bottom of the garden like a frisbee. Still worked the next day. Robust.

Excellent video. Glad I found you, you have a new sub. I think someone mentioned earlier that the progress bar is only relative to their rating in the first team, so I tend to use attribute progress to see how a player is actually progressing :)
@@ZealandonYT yeah, my only issue is if I bring in a new better player, my current players relative rating will drop, even though they might be improving, so I prefer to look at it stat wise. Great video btw, didn't know about Match review either haha
@@ZealandonYT It can also depend on whether or not you've gone down or up the leagues recently. Some of my top players had a massive drop on the progress bar without any attribute changes due to us going up into the swedish prem from the first div.
The very first thing i always do on a new save, as soon as it lets me on to the screens. Is sort out my staff, everytime. I dont look at my players or transfers. I sort my staff out. Sometimes im halfway through a transfer window before i even start looking at signing players because ive been focused on bring in staff
Ive heard that using multiple tactics is good from others as well but Ive created my own tactic w/ position action adjustments that I use 100% of the time and its been pretty successful.
Not sure how valid it is, but something that helped me increase my win percentage was looking at the assistant coach's scout report of the opposing team. It would help find either players with low match sharpness, injuries that would tell me that position was prone to mistakes so I can exploit it, or would tell me things like the goalkeeper is error prone or defense isnt great at heading so I would focus on more crosses for example. Also, match sharpness was ridiculously important :D
Very well done. Sometimes I feel that I'm a decent player then I will watch one of your videos and realize I'm not really. You make it easy to understand and I'll take some of these tips with me.
I've just got into FM2020 (Yes Late) But noticed at the time of recording Faisal Al Badri was declining behind the scenes possibly due to him being noted as the worst at training at the nedt screen. Maybe older lack of work ethic starting to let him down and inturn decline him as a player?
Finally, someone who is still in FM20~! LOL~! 😄 Have been typing long essays in other Zealand youtubes, so let me (try to) keep it short here. Many good tips here. For a long time save, getting the best possible staff is the most important indeed (my saves are usually for decades. My current Milan save is into 2043 or something.) But anyway, just answering your (and Zealand's) point of training players, etc - Ermm, I am a simpleton. To me, the game has not changed from it's core from CM97, which is just about getting good players, and letting them run riot. All the micro-ing doesnt really matter, if your starting 11 (and the bench) has players with damn high CA/PA (aka 5*-s in the current FMs). Which, yes, includes training. My current Milan team has more than half of the players who are "Fairly" something, and they win all the same. Because, well, 4*s and a 5* SC who scores despite a Finishing of 13 (15 at 31yo though. No idea why. Nothing has changed, hmmm ...)
I've had my general manager sign a world class player on a free when I wasnt paying attention. Ended up selling him for over 200 million some seasons later. They can honestly get you some gems
really great video! Very helpful and in depth. For someone who plays FM regularly there still was a lot to think about. Can you share what tactics you are using for the underdog role? I am looking for a 4-1-4-1 or a 4-1-2-2-1 but everything I find is very attacking minded.
Nice video! Regarding the mentoring section.. Do you use one mentoring group for attackers, one for defenders and one for goalies? Or do you use one group with a mix of players from different units?
Swapping tactical roles for players in a structured formation for a certain style of player. I.E can't have a limited central defender playing out from the back as a ball playing defender, 60% of the time he'll just pass it to the opposition.
Do you take the philosophy of the staff into consideration, when you pick your staff? I do. I found a lot of problems when I had opposing philosophies.
the attributes are horrendous, how can we track player progress if nothing shows in the final number, we also dont know the vertical scale units as to how much progress has been made, I feel like players arnt changing and I have excellent staff and training as well as playing players regularly in position. how many attribute numbers should change per year? I need to see the numbers go up.
Hard core FM fan here since '08! Great video! I've never heard of the "match review" until now. Playing FM is like watching the series FRIENDS, anytime you re-watch, you'll find something new. Could you share any tip on this problem I've been having: Too many times my team's attempt-shot on goal-goal stats are like 27-14-1, and the other team's: 2-1-1 ... it happens regardless what team I play.
I had an Home Grown Youth player called Matt Bell (gen) for St Albans and he has been in the first team since 17 every year great seasons from league 2 to prem but my staff were telling me he needs to be sold now ASAP whilst he had a 12 mil valuation for his prem apps, they were showing he is not improving in fact, he went down from championship current ability to league 1 and basically found that he had reached his potential but his arrows were always up so I played him ignored the coach till this guy was making so many mistakes in a match, he just went bad but he was a worker, anyways I sold him to zulte waregem for 11.25 mil absolute bargain. Fans hated me though cos he was loved by them. Point is he is right defo those arrows are arbitrary by nature.
I was wondering, because when you go in a save, all the players are set to a potential ability, no matter how you train them, play them or even if the determination is like in close 18-20. That kinda ruined to fun for me, because now i know, that i can have a great 17 year old with good personality and decent determination and his current ability is 110 and his potential is 120. How do i find the motivation back?
The " progress graph" is just about CA and reputation/form. It's the same as the Current Ability starts the Assistant Manager gives a player. If he plays a couple of bad games, they stars will go down. If your club improves massively (better players elsewhere, massive increase in reputation due to increase, re-evaluated reputation), the stars WILL go down. And NO attribute changed a single point. Because the players are rated relatively, so this graph, for me, is useless. Use the attributes graph.
@@ZealandonYT Yeah I agree, but I believe the star graph is flawed because it might go down (or up) regardless of how player is doing. I would love to be proved wrong however.. Example: Player X, static CA of 100 - no stat changes whatsoever, zero. Club massively overachieves and is promoted to the top flight league = less stars for player in the Progress Graph so it looks like he regressed, when its only the club that got better. Club compeltely tanks, relegated when it was expecting a fight for the tittle = player stars go UP because now club is "worse" compared to the player. So many wierd stuff happening in this game i don't even bother playing it the way I used to. Sometimes we concede very funny goals they look forced, like all the teams scoring their only shot on target. Things like training, press conference, staff, scouting are all broken. @@stephenreader2049 It´s called the holiday period because there are a lot of religious and cultural festivals and holidays in a short period between December and January. I work within a multi-cultural environment and no one calls it the holiday period apart from the uptight loony left and the political correctness idiots, normally weak, middle-class white folk. Only 32% of the world is Christian? what the hell is that got to do with it? Any other spiritual, religious or faith beliefs haven't had to change their names for their celebrations.
@@stephenreader2049 It´s called the holiday period because there are a lot of religious and cultural festivals and holidays in a short period between December and January. You got Bodhi Day, Hannukah, Kwamzaa, Various Muslim and Pagan Holidays and Christmas, which itself has different dates between the sects of christianity and different additional holidays like Boxing Day depending on where you live. Since you can´t expect everyone in your audience to celebrate the same event and it would be tedious to list every single one you say happy holidays to include all of them. If you know the person you are talking to is christian its completely fine to wish them merry christmas, same as with every other event. This has nothing to do with being left leaning, this is just common sense.
@@WizoIstGott lol, alright snowflake. If you truly believe that, good luck in your bubble life.
@@stephenreader2049 I just gave you a satisfying explanation of why i disagree with you, and you seem to be unable to respond with anything of substance. Calling people snowflake instead of engaging with the arguments they offer is pretty childish and shows your inability to engage with different views. Have a good day
@@WizoIstGott You are so up your own backside fella. Jump down from your high horse and take a good look at the real world. Because you think you wrote something all deep and meaningful, it does not mean one thing. Snowflake, all the way
