Zealand, you are my Senpai! After listening to the tips you gave on scouting on your Twitch channel I overhauled my scouting. Hiring scouts with knowledge of Africa and Central & Eastern Europe to try and find cheap wonder kids and it has taken probably about a year in game but it starting to pay off. I've just signed a 16yo attacking midfielder from Liechtenstein with 4 star potential who was on non-contract terms with a club in Liechtenstein. All I've had to pay is a 19K signing on fee and his basic wages.
Questions! 1 - How does asking for scout reports interfere with the long term scout assignments? Does it really drag someone back from Brazil to watch someone in England for a game? 2 - Does having no assigment allow a scout to get through that backlog pipeline faster?
I'll start by answering no 2. So when ever you click on "get scout report" you idle scouts are those that gets the report done because they currently have no assignment. Linking that with question 1; when your scouts all have assignments and you click on "get scout report" on a player, that player is added to a waiting list until a scout is free. Go to "scouting/assignments/scout priorities" this will show you all the players that are currently being scouted and you can move a player to the top of the list so the report cones in faster and you don't have to wait for all the other players to be scouted first
Also since you didn't mention them, Croatia, Slovakia, Czech republic, and Serbia are great places to find talented players on the cheap that are not restricted by the foreign player rules of say Spain and Italy. After finding that one out I always make sure to turn those leagues on at the beginning of each save. Also if the scouting report is below a 75 I don't even bother taking a look unless they are in the 16-19 age range. Everything ranging from 75 to 85 goes into a separate short list, then everything 85+ goes into a separate shortlist, and the youth players go into a separate one as well. And then when the transfer window comes around I have a list of players that I can browse through to see which player fits my needs the best.
You can pretty much just leave your chief scout to do all of that by leaving him in charge, and then just manually send the scouts out on the same searches by clicking on the focus and then making short term assignments, assigning scout to search specified areas for the players based on the same criteria you used, and the chief scout automatically assigns the best scout to do the job. If you want Columbia scouted he assigns the scout with the most knowledge of Columbia, so you don't have to look and find which one it is before giving the assignment. That way you don't have to deal with all the other micro managing with your data analysts etc. Unless you want less playing and more micro managing with your game.
only 5 min in the video and the first thing I learned had nothing to do with scouting but that there is an option to filter only realistic staff members for your reserve and under 18 team. That will make it so much easier looking for good reserve staff by myself.
Zealand, Director of Football is also great of finding players. Can ask him for regular transfers, loans, expiring contract and free transfer players. Much useful on lower clubs. Need to have high attributes for Ability, Potential and Negotiating. Try do a video for that.
Getting a data analyst report is important when you're not sure about 2 very similar players to sign. You could find out that maybe one player has a way better conversion rate than the other one
I always found it was helpful to scout teams that got relegated in the major leagues, cause you can pick up bargains. In one of my saves Toulouse got relegated from French Ligue 1 and transfer listed their entire squad. I was able to sign 2 18YO's, that my scouts gave 5 star ratings and they went on to be crucial players for me (In a Bielefeld team that won 8 straight Bundesliga titles).
18:35 if you want to try that pronunciation again, its ver (which you did correct) ijs ( pronounce it as "ice" , this sound is almost impossible for people unfamiliar with Dutch) and then donk (which you nailed). Oh and btw, you are named after a Dutch province as well. Just a fun fact imo.
Scouting a specific match can sometimes be used to unsettle a player you want. This works best when he plays for club with less reputation then yours. The presence of scouts might unsettle him if you already showed interest, and make him more likely to want to leave, or at least prevent him from signing a new contract. Not scientificly proven, but it can also be a good test, to see how good he performs under pressure.
You forgot the time length section. I normally assign them to 'ongoing' too... Mainly because I send them each to their own region around the world. This way it just keeps looking for wonderkids all the time. (Obviously after the first 3-5 years in a club)
Great video Zealand! Have one question though, how about Duration of the scouting? Is this relevant? Should it be "Until Finish", "Ongoing" or set time frames, like 1 month? Are there benefits on any of the choices? Thank you
That depends. "Until finished" is discouraged imo. They just scout for a while and stop. If you want, for example, for a scout to just keep scouting Germany for prospects, use ongoing. But, for example, if you want a new Goalkeeper and you need it quickly, use a certain timeframe.
One scouting question I can never get a clear answer on is if newgens are generating in regions like West Africa depends on league and database settings? For example, I usually just add the recommended leagues as playable and all the rest view only with a large database. I don't mess with the custom database settings, am I wasting time if I send a scout to West Africa or do newgens spawn there regardless? Clarifications on which regions are spawning new players in that set up would be appreciated.
Congratulations on the `Verlijsdonk´, im Dutch.. our pronunciations are horrible and I would be very proud if I were you! For a non Dutchy, great interpretation :D
i found whenever i have players on trial they instantly get offers from other clubs so when managing a small club who prob can't compete with those offers i find them to be more detrimental
If you're a few years into a save and want regens then I can't recommend Peru highly enough, there are so many fantastic cheap players around every save, I go in and look around the teams at the start of every season and scout anyone under the age of 20, obviously there will be a lot of duds too, but you'll find a lot of good players in there. Scotland is also quite good too, again the players are just so cheap, you should be able to pick them up at almost any team
I don't have the choice between delegating it and doing it myself. In fact I can only switch between doing it myself( but without any additional options) or let my staff do it. Help?
Great video as always! Also your intros are great, dont ever stop doing them!:D So a question if anyone can help me. How to prevent my director of football to keep sending me every single transfer news about every single player that I have ever scouted in the past in my inbox? I got like 20 news in inbox almost every time I continue, especially during transfer window.
Not sure what that is. If they're in your shortlist, they will send you updates on that player. Go in Staff>Assignmets>Scouting and it says "When scouting a player, shortlist him (for 1 week, 1 month etc.). If you turn that off, they shouldn't be added to your shortlist and if you clear your shortlist, you shouldn't get updates on them. Hope this helps.
@@Roscododger Ohhh I owe you big time! Couldn't find a solution anywhere and it was really annoying. My spacebar was hurting as well:D I had It set to add them on shortlist indefinitely so whole world of them in my shortlist default shortlist. Thank you!

i have to say, the best tip here is actually the offering literally every decent free agent a trial. players that initially deny your advances, will beg you to employ them once they've arrived on trial. it must be an exploit. it's as if club reputation suddenly means nothing😂
Hey dude. Since your comment is the newer i found here, i d like to ask you something cause i m desperate to find a solution. I control both options of scouting and assigned every scout to a nation/region. I have 25 scouts. None of them returned with a young player recommendation. or many recommendations in general. Assignments last for months , i get 4-5-6 reports and always estimated time is N/A. Unless i stop them , i think they would never end. Moreover the country that a scout is assigned doesnt even show up in his knowledge even after months. What the f**k am i doing wrong?
@@anastasiostsaousidis5719 damn son i have no idea. i'll be honest i rarely sign a player my scouts have found. i usually poach as many wonderkids on intake day as possible (separate video for that lol). and i genuinely spend hours searching using the player search and looking at youth teams across my loaded leagues. it's hit and miss buddy, everyone has their own methods. i would suggest watching a few more videos. SI forum is good and so is fmscout website. start posting screenshots and your questions there. i am no expert, i'm just mildly autistic so i get aroused by stats😂good luck to you my friend.
@@mowvu I have watched tons of videos although i m not a newbie in fm. The problem to my question was probably that i chose "until finished" in my assignments time. Instead i should use "ongoing" or specific time. And what do you mean exactly by intake day ? You scout manually all teams of your league the day that we have youth incoming? One more question . Do you know where we see our loaded leagues inside game? Because there is some time since i started it and i m not sure about some african countries so i want to check them.
When your scouts are looking for players, will they find players that are not in your scouting package, or will they only find players that are in the package you're paying for?
8:53 Enemies. I call them my enemies. So very high aggression, strength and very low ability to actually make clean tackles is high on my shopping list >.>
Once you get BIG and have 20+ scouts clicking through the list can make you burn out on the save rather quick though if you want to keep signing all the wonder kids with good stats to sell for huge profit. That’s my usual pitfall at least once the CL has been one multiple times .. how do you guys avoid that ?
Regarding scouting competitions, say if a scout is looking for players in the UK, aren't they finding players by watching matches? So if they are looking for players in the premier league is that any different from just asking then to scout that competition?
@@ZealandonYT thanks, but in your opinion are the scouts only using the games they watch to find players? So if for some reason I ask the scout to look at premier league, championship, league 1 and 2, reserves, youth, both cup competitions is this the same as selecting "scout england"? Reason is that im wondering if you ask the scout to look at just a couple of specific competitions like premier league, championship, fa cup, reserves, youth instead of the lower leagues and that weird cup where premier league reserve teams play league 1 and 2 teams if this will speed up finding higher quality players as they don't have to watch more lower quality games where they are less likely to find better players? Not sure if the question makes sense but there doesn't seem to be a way to exclude certain competitions for the scout so the only other way would be to specifically tell them to only watch certain ones Btw, thanks for the videos they are always useful and Ivre found out useful information like the stars and scouting numbers being relative to your team etc which I never knew
Hie Zealand hope you're good. Could you please make a video about player traits and which is best suited for each position and role. And also for respective attributes.
I agree that setting up assignments are good for longer term or more general talent scouting, but I've found that when I need to fill a position quickly, assignments are quite bad at reporting back with good recommendations in a timely manner. Too often they come back with barely any recommendations, or most of them will end up being below par or completely unattainable for your club's transfer budget / reputation. If you need a specific position quickly (in like less than 2 months), I've found using Player Search to filter and manually scouting those individual players to be much more efficient. Anyone have thoughts on this?
Yea if you have a good scouting package you can lean on sorting attributes and even though they're in a range, it'll be effective in narrowing down who to look at
Wondering if anyone knows this - when I tried the demo, I wasn't able to turn off player attribute masking - is that a feature of the game now, or can you just not turn it off in the demo?
I just started a save with vitoria guimaraes in the portuguese first division and am in the winter transfer window. Huge emphasis on developing youth and i have good depth of potential in my youth team. I dont really have enough funds to warrant a star first team signing. What type of players should i be scouting and looking to sign in the next couple transfer windows?
You said it yourself. You aren't the biggest team in Portugal, so you should be signing players Under 23 for the future. Dont spend more than 6 or 7 million on each player. Keep doing that until you start winning the league and getting in the Champions League regularly. Then you can afford to buy first team players.
I'm kinda stuck on my current save where i'm winning the league without any problems (i'm FC Copenhagen) but can't take the next step and perform in europe. Any advice on how i take the next step?
Can someone answer this for me? Is there any point in scouting a nation/competition if, when you started the game, you didn't select that country as playable or visible? I tend to start as a premier League team and don't move clubs so don't bother selecting other countries at the game start as it slows down my computer. Does this make scouting other countries pretty useless?
Anyone please? i d like to ask something cause i m desperate to find a solution. I control both options of scouting and assigned every scout to a nation/region. I have 25 scouts. None of them returned with a young player recommendation. or many recommendations in general. Assignments last for months , i get 4-5-6 reports and always estimated time is N/A. @@Jur1_00 thx. I do this but my scouts always bring new players to scout. I would like to stop this until listed players are fully scouted. My list has 60 players at the moment and gets bigger with every interesting Player they show me...
Scouts help you look for potential players that might help you. Of course finding a good player is one of the things that help your squad to be much better, but there are a lot more factors to consider other than scouting such as your tactics, team cohesion, training, affiliates, other staffs(coaches for better trainings, physio and sports scientist to help you reduce injury risk and for injury to be healed faster) Try to improve on a lot of different ways to see what makes your squad play better. Good luck on winning again 👌🏻

They shouldn't come up again once you've discarded them unless they are in your shortlist for some reason
i have to say, the best tip here is actually the offering literally every decent free agent a trial.
players that initially deny your advances, will beg you to employ them once they've arrived on trial. it must be an exploit. it's as if club reputation suddenly means nothing😂
Question: How long does it take for a scout to finish scouting a place / region?
Once you get BIG and have 20+ scouts clicking through the list can make you burn out on the save rather quick though if you want to keep signing all the wonder kids with good stats to sell for huge profit. That’s my usual pitfall at least once the CL has been one multiple times .. how do you guys avoid that ?
Is scout personality any important?? or can I hire balanced/unambitiuos/fickle ones with no problem??
Regarding scouting competitions, say if a scout is looking for players in the UK, aren't they finding players by watching matches? So if they are looking for players in the premier league is that any different from just asking then to scout that competition?
I scout a whole country so that smaller league players do not get overlooked
Not sure if the question makes sense but there doesn't seem to be a way to exclude certain competitions for the scout so the only other way would be to specifically tell them to only watch certain ones
Btw, thanks for the videos they are always useful and Ivre found out useful information like the stars and scouting numbers being relative to your team etc which I never knew
How I scout for wonder kids set the age 14 to 18, then potential very good and keep it ongoing.
Hie Zealand hope you're good. Could you please make a video about player traits and which is best suited for each position and role. And also for respective attributes.
This ua-cam.com/video/Cm-y8s-UQhg/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/V8k1D4Y92IU/v-deo.html should help.
FM is built to make you succeed. You dont need any particular tips to be good at FM.
Then you can afford to buy first team players.
is that the same music as that chapter?
I'm kinda stuck on my current save where i'm winning the league without any problems (i'm FC Copenhagen) but can't take the next step and perform in europe. Any advice on how i take the next step?
Have to invest intelligently in youth to reach the next level
I hate FM but you sir are fantastic
Can someone answer this for me?
Is there any point in scouting a nation/competition if, when you started the game, you didn't select that country as playable or visible?
I tend to start as a premier League team and don't move clubs so don't bother selecting other countries at the game start as it slows down my computer. Does this make scouting other countries pretty useless?
There will still be a database of players outside the Premier League I believe but it will be small if no other countries are simulated.
Good intro👏
did they remove the youth package in fm21?

Can scouting attributes change over time?
Where did Jordy Verlijsdonk come from, can’t find him in my save
He’s not real unfortunately, real faces on regens pack
How many scouts is excessive to scout brazil?
Is there a way to force the scouts to scout players of my list before showing me new players?
Yes, you go to "player search/assignments/scout priorities" and move the players up the list so they get scouted first
@@Jur1_00 thx. I do this but my scouts always bring new players to scout. I would like to stop this until listed players are fully scouted. My list has 60 players at the moment and gets bigger with every interesting Player they show me...
Why is the opposition scout so important?
How is your coaching staff can be 19?
3:56 it was this momen he knew he fucked up
I have 20 Scouts (21 with my Chief Scout) and i never won the Champions League.
(im playing with Rennes in France)
Haha scouts dont win you games. Not directly anyway.
Scouts help you look for potential players that might help you. Of course finding a good player is one of the things that help your squad to be much better, but there are a lot more factors to consider other than scouting such as your tactics, team cohesion, training, affiliates, other staffs(coaches for better trainings, physio and sports scientist to help you reduce injury risk and for injury to be healed faster)
Try to improve on a lot of different ways to see what makes your squad play better. Good luck on winning again 👌🏻
Can you share you bate save? tnx
Z, we all know you pray to the FM powers anyway.
