Considering we never had the red berets in times of the Lethbridge-Stewarts and vise versa, does that mean Unit has never been complete?

This series, 2024, is one of the best I have ever seen from the classic Who and the 2005 NuWho. I'm sad it's almost over, tho 😢

It definitely feels like they are setting UNIT up for a spin off (especially with their new building! Get some real mileage out of that set) which I am definitely hoping for, I think that would be fantastic!
Aside from a young First Doctor spin off, that's the spin-off I want the most.
I can see it as a spiritual successor to Torchwood but with aliens being more accepted as fact in human society.
@@matt0044 It would be less of spy thriller and more of a police drama.
If that's not the goal they sure are doing a lot of work building up background characters like perfect hair UNIT commando, 8 foot tall alien guy, and midget boffin on a segway.
this would have been so much better if it had been an in-universe training video for new U.N.I.T staff

I just finished binging these before finally returning to Doctor Who and just have to say Tyrell and the whole team have knocked it out of the park on these!!
Fun fact, The UN told BBC that they had to change what UNIT stood for, because it was too close to theirs.

Kates character arc from a woman who despaired in Smiths Era to the badass Commander in Chief during Legend of Ruby Sunday/Empire of Death is an amazing one
Pretty well done, but, I wish you'd chosen better flashbacks from Classic, cause that toy tank is just hilarious now.

I don’t know what the pre-COVID plan for series 13 was, but I’m glad Chibs reopened UNIT before he left. I was genuinely prepared for it to have taken far longer for its return. The way Brexit still doesn’t feel like it’s taken effect, that’s WAY different than reversing course. Had that stayed the genuine reason for closure, if it was still closed in a 2024 series, I would’ve believed it

I started watching Doctor Who back in the 70s, when it was Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen. There have been bumps in the road with a couple of showrunners, ....cough... JNT and CC, but I still love the show.
A unit spin off with Sean Pertwee popping up now and again as the Doctor. That would get my vote

It was super nice of The Avengers to loan out Avengers Towet to Unit for the new series of Who.

The Doctor and Unit was a production decision to cut down on set costs by putting the Doctor on contemporary earth.
Now explain why UNIT is no longer part of the United Nations. ;P
Because the UN sued the BBC, and made them change the name...

@@wispa1a It would be Trademark infringement, not copyright, and I'm sure that's the reason the production team made the decision to change it. I was looking for an in-universe reason, however.
Not sure they can make an in-universe answer without treading on that issue again...
For anyone wondering, it's not a new change. The original name "United Nations Intelligence Taskforce" was last said by the 9th Doctor in 2005. The new name "Unified Intelligence Taskforce" has been in use since 2008.

Id like to hear the explanation of why it changed from United Nations Intelligence Taskforce to just United Intelligence Taskforce, but i guess we can't have everything.
IRL it's because the United Nations basically had a hissy-fit about it, but in-universe it could be attributed to funding issues maybe

Just soft reboot the show, go back and continue from Capaldis regeneration. Nothing after that needs to be canon.

Is Kate a brigadier or is she in a higher position?
I guess higher, but non-military. The Brigadier would occasionally report to UNIT HQ in Geneva, and could also be overruled by senior officers in the British Army. Kate was introduced in 2012 as Chief Science Officer, and was very explicit about being non-military. "Science leads." By 2014, UNIT under Kate Stewart (technically under the Doctor) was able to operate above and beyond national governments in times of crisis.

Apparently she's been secretly working with an alternate version of the doctor named muldwych. Going on several missions as well as starting a family with ancelyn a knight from another dimension where Camelot still exists in the far future.
Yes, the only non-contentious aspect of the UNIT dating controversy is that the Second Brig is dating an extradimensional Lancelot.
Now you mention it, they would fit perfectly in the revised high fantasy Whoniverse. And would also work well in a spin-off novel or audio series.

@@friendlyotaku9525 Kate Stewart and characters like Colonel Mace, Captain Magambo. Qualified, uniformed personel I like. Because that's what UNIT always should be. Again, not a bunch of people who look like they work for a social media app. Surely you recognise what i'm saying is this crop of UNIT characters is weak compared to even RTD's previous one off's.

I've been watching since 1974
Stopped at the GIANT SPIDERS with jodie Tennant Whittaker.
Ironic, considering _Planet of the Spiders_ aired in 1974.

I'm genuinely surprised UNIT hasn't blown up the world because Kate Lethbridge-Stewart thought that big red button that says "DO NOT PUSH UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES" was the pizza ordering button. UNIT used to not suck.
I also make things up to be upset about. It's very productive and totally not a complete waste of time.
