Reliving these memories is very special. Thank you ❤🥹🖤
As a long term Jinx and Dr Who fan, these worlds colliding was everything I hoped for. You absolutely slayed this 🖤🖤
U WERE SOSOSOS GREAT IT WAS INCREDIBLE!!!!!
You were amazing 😍
Just watched the episode. You were SOOOOO GREAT, I enjoyed every second (and note :p) of it! Thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️
Woooo you were amazing!!! It was so much fun to watch!!
Jinkx monsoon is by far the most perfect casting of a villain so far!!!! I really hope they bring her back at some point!!!!
Completely agree!
3:42 Apparently Jinkx just naturally laughs like the Toymaker.
They are 100% a natural cackler, always have been. 😜
Maybe all gay Americans do it that way
I did not think Jinx Monsoon could scars me. Damn that whole creeping out of the piano gave me Pennywise vibes.
I can definitely see that but more obvious is the reference to Bette Midler as Winnifred in Hocus Pocus.
How cool that the one guy had a musical connection to Doctor Who through his dad and then got to play a character in a music episode
The tardis is so tough that it can hold the maestro’s attack.
But it can be broken by just one cap of coffee.
And that's why we should never underestimate the power of Doctor-Donna.
Wibbly wobbly...
Human skin also endures radiation, but if it's exposed from the inside..
My headcanon is the Toymaker, after coming back into the universe, retroactively manipulated the Tardis malfunction to bring 14 and Donna to the space station, so they’d encounter the Not-Things, and 14 would unknowingly release the Toymaker. Toymaker ensured his own timeline.
Things tend to be more vulnerable on the inside, so it makes sense.
I love how this era of Doctor Who is really embracing puppetry for as many effects as it can. It makes everything feel more tactile and crafted. Not to say that CGI isn't also an incredible tool, but with the Meep, Jimbo, Stooky Sue, The space babies' strollers, and now Maestro's powers, it helps establish a texture in the asthetic of the show which is hugely appreciated by so many of us.
I am loving the joyful, excited energy...the vibe of the cast...and just how entertaining and fun these episodes are to watch!! I can't wait to see what happens next!
Yeeees. It feels more concrete, like you can actually touch it.
Thats true. And not using CGI means it will age better (one of the issues of earlier even if they were amazing at the time). But I really really really wish they had CGI'ed thise babies mouths so they actually made the same shape as there voice and was in time with the dubbing. That stuff was actually creepier then the monster. They should have made the babies evil cos of that uncannyvally stuff.
I liked this episode kinda. I'm still not sure if they jumped the shark or not with this one. But the fact I don't know what to think of it means it wasn't just straight up bad like a lot of shows that try and do something like this. It did grab my intrest (this is coming from someone who stopped watching at 13 or 'The chip era' cos the writting on that was just bad bad bad and not sure if the casting was right. Bar Gramam)
THE MEEP
It honestly sounds like when they needed a maniacal laugh, they just used Jinkx’s natural giggle.
No kidding, and it’s fabulous
Yeah it often does sound creepy as fuck when a grown ass man giggles.
@@ohmaigod2:/
yeah jinkx is one of those ru girls with such a distinct laugh that she could just play herself in parts
@@ohmaigod2why are you afraid of men having giggles teehee 🤭
@@ohmaigod2 Babes. Your username is ohmaigod2. What happened to ohmaigod and ohmaigod1? Were they taken? Are you... Unoriginal? Generic even? Basic? ❤
Jinxx knocked it out of the park with that performance. I mean, shoulder to shoulder with any performance of any villain I can think of, even the actor who played Omega which was...well just go and watch The Three Doctors and you'll understand. It takes a bigger-than-life performer to pull off a bigger-than-life villain and this was one of the best and most enjoyable performances I've seen. PLEASE bring back The Maestro in a future episode.
The Giggle coming back gave me chills.
RIGHT?!
Agreed. I did a spit-take involving hot tea.
That’s what I was saying!!! Chills!!
Ditto on the tea spit.
Maestro literally gave me chills, from their first appearence to the very end. The giggle, the costumes, the acting, even the singing were so intimidating 😅
Such a strong and fun to watch villain. A memorable character for sure! Also, the makeup, design, the whole crew that brought Maestro to life, and ofc Jinkx, did an awesome job!!
Intimidating? RuPaul would make a more Intimidating villain than that fruitloop.
@@AlvinEarthworm Yeah you say that but if you encountered Maestro in person you would be cowering on the floor because of their god like power.
@@chazo1367 I would say because of their godlike *presence*!
More specifically, it seems Maestro can do anything music can, and that includes manipulating emotion. The usually-brave Doctor fled from Maestro - just as the Bogeyman scared him through more physical means.
Have you not seen AJ and the queen? Rupaul can barely act.@@AlvinEarthworm
definitely. it also helps that jinkx has got some insane pipes on her😂
"If you ever sit there saying, You can't do that on Doctor who, that's what I want to do" Absolute Legend
I love RTD's attitude. Doctor Who hasn't survived and thrived for 60+ years by always doing the same thing. It should be the show where you can do anything.
*THIS*
It's why I have a soft spot for the Chibnall era. At least it tried to be different.
One of the core points of Who is embracing change, things have to change and evolve to work. The Doctor regenerating is another facet of this sort of change.
@@blueknight07 i get you. Change is essential to the survival of Who, but we still need to build on the past, not ruin the past. Space Babies first two minutes is a love song to 60 years - and i love how he said "it's like a chameleon", not "it has a broken chameleon circuit" - that is making change and respecting the past.
@@blueknight07 I do too. I’d delayed watching it, but I thought it was touching how often Chibnall was trying to hat-tip to Classic Who.
I didn't know Jinkx before, but I was immediately carried away by their performance. I thought of Divine, who was the model for Ursula - I felt just as picked up! Awesome performance. Mega voice! Can we see more? I hope Maestro comes back. 🫶 Loved this episode.
God, I love Jinkx Monsoon
Maestro feels dramatic in an almost unreal way but in the same time REALLY intimidating. It's amazing!
Maestro was great. It was nice to have a memorable, charismatic, intimidating villain.
Jinkx is a natural for Doctor Who. Perfect casting.
Doctor Who being proper camp again is great.
Jinkx absolutely killed it, like this role was written just for them. Loved it! Maestro’s black piano costume was epic. I have my Halloween costume idea already. 😂❤
Maestro was an amazing villain, the best in a while imo! So wonderfully CREEPY but also so charismatic
That's Jinkx Monsoon for you. Amazingly talented and charismatic and, given the right direction, a little bit creepy haha. I adore her
It left me wanting more. Which at my age is hard to do.
Maestro is honestly one of my favourite villains in the entire series
I’ve not heard of Jinx Monsoon before this but they’re amazing
On a side note I can’t help compare Maestro to a Jojo villain and I hope we see more villains in that vein
OMG IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS MAESTRO IS A JOJO VILLAIN!!!
Jinx is IMHO the most talented performer to ever come out of the Drag Race franchises. Look up their season (i think its 5) as well as All Stars 7. They're Broadway fam too, so watch for them in the West End. To tell you anything more would be Spoilers, Sweety.
HE is absolutely not amazing, cringe, a bit gross and stupid, and also nothing like doctor who, it’s a sci fi show not some fringe drag thing🤮
Jinkx gave a tour de force performance and was one of the best villains I've ever seen on NuWho!
Having a huge musical number at the end can feel a bit out of place for this show, but it's actually perfect. It's the characters celebrating the return of music and dance, plus if you wanted to, you could say that it follows the new lore. When the Toymaker was around, lots of stuff was possible; when he was gone, there was still some time left to play, which meant creating a second Tardis. When the Maestro left, music returned, and it made such a big rebound that a musical number makes sense. It's just too silly and too fun to hate!
Yeah, we can take it 2 ways.
(1) Canon, in-universe, as the lingering but temporary effects of Maestro's reality warping (similar to the Toymaker's State of Play).
(2) Non-canon, out of universe, more akin to behind-the scenes stuff or charity sketches, that is a treat for the audience from the production.
It works either way and doesn't really matter. Enjoy it or don't, but it doesn't change the show.
I personally thought it was fun, but wouldn't miss it otherwise. The episode itself was great.
I took it as pure euphoria to finally be able to sing and dance again i would be if i could do both again after basically living in fear of being consumed by a celestial entity
@@dirrdevil see, I read it as 'Maestro was defeated, but not actually destroyed." there was the little kid that ran behind the door that looks a lot like the start of the episode after all.
@@dirrdevil i choose to believe it’s because of maestro, if they’re anything like the toymaker then it’s most likely the lingering effects. either works though! i just think the first option would be pretty neat
The entire show now feels out of place with the show. *Not genuine Doctor Who.*
Something about the current era of Doctor Who is so wonderfully stage-y and surreal. I didn’t know what to expect going in, given how different it is from previous eras, but I’m really loving the new direction so far.
There’s something so satisfying about how they say Maestro
Loved the call back and acknowledgement of where the first doctor was in 1963 London. fantastic seeing 15 talk about Susan and actually acknowledge that he had children and that likely all of his offspring had been murdered as part of the time or genocide
So glad that this production team is going all-in on the behind the scenes content, it's been solely missed in recent years for Who (can we have Unleashed outside the UK pretty pleaseeeee)
Jinx really is America's Next Drag Superstar. She's achieved more with her career than any of the other queens from the show. First Broadway and now the BBC!
DO not care
@@paularc1899 you obviously cared enough to comment dorkus.
She’s the queen of all queens
@@paularc1899 You care so much man
Tough to argue with that!
And we better not forget, THERE'S ALWAYS A TWIST IN THE END!
Jinkx had SO MUCH FUN. I know their entire vibe from all the RuPaul's and their youtube channel, so for Jinkx to be playing the part of a chaotic evil music god on Doctor Who.... Perfect
Honestly, as soon as I read that Jinkx had been cast, I immediately knew which episode was going to be my favorite this season. I also love that they left it a bit open ended to where they could bring Maestro back
It was so perfect, like the role had been written just for them. Jinkx deserves every bit of success they’ve gotten recently. I mean, Doctor Who and 2 Broadway musicals? If you haven’t seen their new performance of ‘Somewhere That’s Green’ from Little Shop of Horrors go check it out. Absolutely brilliant. Queen of queens indeed. 👑💙

I loved the subtle fourth wall breaks with Maestro playing the theme song. Not even the show itself can contain them
And the Doctor asking if the music was diegetic!
The 4th wall break into the intro music was pure genius!!!
I love that the approach to effects is practical first with digital as enhancement. The productions that prioritise digital never look quite right.
Jinxx deserves an Emmy

@@tl1110 probably for what they did, dingus
@tl1110 for a stand out performance.
Love their performance. They really embodied the same deranged and meniacle attitude their father (toymaker) did in the last special. Loved it.

They will. People think they are the master. Maestro translates to master so...

@@Adri_Unsung You call that "The golden age"?? Haha. NO. I never accepted post 2005 as genuine Doctor Who, never mind as a golden age. The Golden age was Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker in the 70s. All genuine Whovians know this. Reboot Doctor Who is a pale, Americanised imitation of what the classic series was, why it was great, and why fans kept it loved for so long. I hated the reboot from the start...and it's only gotten worse since it went politically woke during the Capaldi days. *An absolute travesty.*

This episode of DW I think single handedly showcased the best costume design ever. At least it didn't have no space babies.... That was just weird.
Did not like the space babies episode at all, ugh. This one, though, was brilliant. Maestro’s costumes were just stunning. What else could you do for a drag queen though? 😂💙
I actually didnt pick up on the synchronized time period! Dude this episode and some of it's Easter eggs were great on top of just being an insane and fun episode.
This story reminded me of the stories, you sometimes get in Dr Who comics and annuals. Wild and novel ideas, that were impossible some years ago, to film for television. Love it. Crazy, scary and wonderful. ❤
And with all the camp to match! 💚 Jinkx is so perfect for the role!
maestro was AMAZING, they gave me the chills and were easily the best thing in this episode! i just wish it was a two parter to build on the doctor being scared and the beatles saving the day, the end felt kind of rushed but i still left this episode with a smile on my face bc i loved the maestro so much!
I love that jinx is on this show. You go girl
Was very excited for this episode! Great job Jinkx and everyone else
The intro where they looked at the camera and started the intro was coooold. I liked it alot
Jinx Monsoon absolutely killed it in this episode.
Can wait until see what one who waits is
Okay, I'll admit I'm slow on the uptake. It wasn't until hearing it the second time that I noticed "There's Always A Twist At The end" is the Toymaker's laugh.
I am *ecstatic* that this incarnation of The Doctor gets to wear all different types of outfits!! Such a huge wardrobe in the TARDIS and it so rarely gets used! I love that it also shows how much he's changed and become more free to express his happy side!
Very much looking forward to the next god like enemies / gifts from The Toy Maker. NPH And Jinkx were both amazing, who’s next??
Jinkx delivered SO HARD I LOVE THE PERFORMANCE
This episode was totally mad. I loved it.
Great episode! Loved the music sequence at the end, especially! Thank you all!
Again, RTD is mentioning Pyramids of Mars
Ncuti is so charming and charismatic. I can't help but smile when he's on screen!
I’m sorry but did no one notice the same women has appeared in these first three Gatwa episodes??? She appears at 4:38 in The Church on Ruby Road, then at 22:57 as Coms Officer Gina Scalzi in Space Babies, then at 11:09 giving tea to the Doctor and Ruby in The Devil’s Chord. Plus she was Mrs. Merridew taking to Isaac Newton at the beginning of Wild Blue Yonder with Tennant’s Doctor. So she must be someone bigger than Ruby’s plot line because she does seem to be following the Doctor regardless of companion. Any theories??? I looked up the movie and song she mentions in two of her scenes but I can’t find an obvious connection.
it seems like when bad wolf kept appearing but in a physical appearance could be susan spread across time or the one who waits
She's Susan Twist. And you know...there's always a _twist_ in the end. 🤫
At one point Maestro says "sound and vision". That's also a song from David Bowie's Low, which has a cover featuring Bowie with red-dyed hair and a high collar. I really hope that's a reference and not a coincidence.
I was 200% on board with this episode. I love the chaotic energy of the Pantheon entities.... burning with barely suppressed insanity.
It just really has me curious about what sort of evil is going to pop up next!! Loving this! NPH as Toymaker....now Maestro. Just completely awesome!
I was hoping there'd be a moment where they had to get back to the TARDIS and enter the wrong police box, but what they did was cool as well.
Jinkx brings the glorious ham that has always been a hallmark of excellent villains on Doctor Who. Long live Maestro!
If the Trickster isn't related to the Toymaker's family, I am going to be very disappointed. They're another villain who has to follow their own rules, even if means they lose.
Can you elaborate? Who is the trickster?
@@julcanda A pansimensional being that feeds off chaos, always trying to manifest into reality. It's is/part off/the embodiment of the Pantheon of Discord. It tends to appear to people at the moment of their death, asking for their consent to save them. If they agree, the timeline changes slightly they get to live (but it means something catastrophic will now happen for the Trickster to feed on, allowing it to break into the universe, which you DON'T want) if you refuse, you're left to die, the same when breaking your contract with it.
It's the main villian of "The Sarah Jane Adventures", where it also encountered the 10th Dr. It's brigade/minions are also responsible for the orwellian dystopia in "Turn Left".
If they are, it's a VERY distant relation. It's possible that they are both decendants of Fenric the first evil (who I've got as my prediction as the one who waits), but unlike Lady Time and Meastro, I don't think they will be close to the Toymaker. It's probably a different pantheon, like the cast of Guardians or the Eternals.
There's also the rights issue with the Trickster. It's one of those weird situations where It's owned by the writer, not the BBC - And the writer is a bigoted trans/homophobe that's fallen out with everyone, so don't expect the villian to return anytime soon.
@julcanda A monster from the Sarah Jane Adventure serie which is a spin off of Dr Who.

I think you could use the Cold Open to "The Devil's Chord" as a primer for all of Doctor Who. Like the gateway episode. 15 minutes in you get all the info you'll ever need. Jinkx delivers a career defining role - a masterclass in acting now on Disney+. This is TV too good for TV. Bravo to everyone involved.
Jinkx was an inspired casting choice and absolutely pitch perfect as Maestro. I hope we get to see the character again in future episodes.
I loved the wackiness of this episode honestly. It's nice seeing Dr Who being fun again. Jinkx's unhinged nature made them perfect for Maestro and I think she did a great job, though perhaps the singing in the end was a bit much.
Couldnt agree more. Fantastic episodes altogether, but im good without another "twist at the end"
I think the episode was meant to come right before the finale episodes originally, so "Twist at the End" would have made a lot more sense ( on top of Ruby saying it'd be June 2024 for her, which is when the final episodes will air ). But I guess they reshuffled it so that the stakes of the season and overarching threat would be established sooner.

Literally SCREAMING when they did the laugh. I had to pause to comprehend. Then I unpaused and THEY DID IT AGAIN!
Same tho, I straight up paused xD In the Toymaker special all the characters were unsettled by the arpeggio without knowing why, and now that we know what the Toymaker can do, the same arpeggio makes us go 'Oh, oh no'. The parallel is wild
YESSS!!!! I paused it too, to explain to my hubby why I was freaking out! It was a fantastic and unexpected connection that the Maestro was actually the Toymaker’s child- not what I expected the Legions to be!
I KNEW that dance on the street was a reference to Tom Hank’s “Big”!! And, was the piano/violin duel a reference to Charlie Daniel’s song “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”? (Which, if true, I also find verrry interesting…!🤔) I love finding hat-tips to classic literature, writers, and performers in Who, and it’s wonderful to see some American icons getting nods too! Thank you!!💙💙
i played the duel part a few times hoping to hear a chord or two of the devil went down to georgia.
It was such a missed opportunity 😭
Yes, when Maestro played the violin as a fiddle I thought it was a reference to the Devil Went Down to Georgia. (I know a violin is a fiddle, but it's how you play it.) Possibly even a subtle reference to the composer, because the devil's fiddle was Gold.

I'm dying to see what RTD could do with Jodie's Doctor. Please have her cameo at some point DW writers I beg you 😭
While I appreciate the big song and dance sequence at the end I'm not sure it was needed... I think I would have like it to end with Maestro going into the piano after telling us he who waits is almost here... then clap... then end credits... and maybe move the dance sequence to a "short" I feel like the power of the threat of he who waits would have been much more strong and sinister.
this episode might just be my favourite of the season ALREADY, it’s that good!
I was very surprised how good these first two episodes were
