As a Mini 2 owner for almost 2 years I have no regrets. I'm pretty jealous of the Miini 3's bigger (than the Mini 2's) sensor though. The easy hyper lapse is a plus too. The size of these little drones is a huge plus, like you said.
My friend has the mini 2 and its great. There's one feature it has over the 3... during the return to home you can pan the drone around. I really needed D-cinelike tho!
Great clip, Ian! I 'm definitely so happy that I bought Mini 3 with the follow me, I definitely want to run over the mountain ridges! Beautiful footage you've got! Nice stuff with the portrait mode indeed, didn't use it yet. Love that is not so noisy, too! Definitely won't let it on a shelf, hehe! Glad we connected Ian! Cheers! 🔔
Glad you enjoyed it. It's a great little drone. I do wish dji had released the important firmware updates sooner- that's my only issue. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the follow me shots on your channel
I flew the mini 2 for about 1,5 years, then i wanted to upgrade to get better quality and bigger files to work with. For me the choice was the mini 3 pro or the air 2s.Because i live in the country side and i don’t fly much near city’s anyway i bought the air 2s in december 2022.Still getting to know the drone but i can say it’s a solid beast in the air and i’m very happy i made that choice although it has some flight restrictions.Still have the mini 2 aswell so i can fly in places were the air 2s isn’t allowed.I see myself upgrading the mini 2 to the mini 3 pro in the future because you can fly it anywhere and because you can shoot in vertical mode,a good feature for sharing content on socialmedia. But for now i’m fine and looking forward to many flight hours with the air 2s 🤔😄👍🏻
Yea that all makes sense. Both the mini 2 and the air 2s are great. If you do buy the mini 3 pro in future, you’ll really enjoy the quieter propellers though!
The new controller is now backwards compatible and you can use it with your air2s. That was the deciding factor for me. I don't have either. I have mavic 2 Pro Zoom. I have the DJI fpv. I have been envious of the Mini 3, but for the price, it looks like a used 2s with the new controller is the way I want to go.
I think a lot depends on where you live, the regulations there and the type of content. The Mini 3 is my favourite overall but the Air 2s does have some advantages for sure
I have the Air2S, as there was only the Mini2 about when I bought it. Ultimately the only advantage in the Mini2 of 'sub-250' was meaningless for me, as where I live there is no distinction for recreational permission to fly. The lighter weight was a slight advantage for packing if I take it along on bicycle tours, but this is not as great an issue when factoring in the total package-weight of drone and controller. The killing things for me that led me to buy the Air2S were - obstacle-avoidance sensors, ActiveTrack, camera resolution, and performance in wind. I flew the Air2S just the other day in a fresh blustery 15-20knot (30-40kmh) breeze at the beach and it was rock-solid. Barely even noticed ANY wind effects. This is a big factor in "opportunity". Are you accounting for that? How does the Mini3 compare for wind performance (stability & flight distance) with the Air2S?
For people who like mountaineering- I do say go for the Air 2s. So yes the 'opportunity' is going to depend on your own situation. Both are great drones for different reasons
Thanks for sharing this man! The mini 3 looks like a little powerful drone. I still have the mini 2 and I’m happy with it. But professionally I use my Mavic 3 😄
Excellent review and a fair comparison to the Air 2s, Ian. 🤘👌Wind resistance is indeed a great disadvantage with these small drones, but like you said, you have way more opportunities to fly. It is a bummer that here in Germany you are not allowed to fly over residential grounds even with an under 250g drone, making it still rather difficult to fly within a city. Only thing I am missing on my Mini 2 is a flat profile like D-Cinelike and a better low light performance. I wouldnt need obstacle avoidance. Kepp on flying and creating, mate.👍
I didn't know that about Germany- it seems most European cities have quite a lot of restrictions even with sub 250g drones. In the UK (for now at least) we are fortunate with drone laws. At least you have plenty of amazing castles in Germany
I saw a guy flying the Mini Pro 3 in 25mph wind and you couldn't tell that it was being blown around. It's on UA-cam. Look it up. I have one , but I'm a new pilot and I love the mini pro 3..
@@Thegoldenchild415 I also fly my Mini 2 in high winds, but it definitely cannot keep up with a bigger drone. But it is still good enough for me. Try to fly a straight line of about 2 or 3 km away from you in strong winds and then fly it back the same way. You will see that the drift of the drone is huge. 😉 That does not happen with my Fimi X8. Nevertheless I still prefer my Mini 2.
@@hdi4eva-castlesbydrone531 This is my first ever drone. I'm a virgin. I've been doing extensive research. I took it up a few times. But not too far out. Makes me nervous 🤣🤣
@@Thegoldenchild415 The Mini 3 has very impressive wind resistance for its size. I still wouldn't want to push it to the limit myself though, and do feel more confident with the Air 2s in windy conditions
@@Ian.A.Anderson I agree except maybe that my surroundings are not super interesting for repeated flights, so I have to include traveling to other places probably.
Thanks. D-cinelike is filming a flatter profile with more dynamic range. It requires more work in editing after, but in some lighting conditions gives a more professional result.
Hi Ian, I'm still flying my Air 2 (also fantastic in windy conditions) and have been see-sawing on whether or not to invest in a Mini 3 so I found your comparison really helpful as our criteria are so similar. Thanks for sharing.👌👍
Glad you found it useful. Since having both drones I have used the Mini 3 a lot more. I don't really want to sell the Air 2s, I'll just have to see how frequently I use it for mountaineering footage
@@Ian.A.Anderson Yep, I see it as a supplement to the Air 2, but there might be an Air 3 in the pipeline and I couldn't afford both, which is why I haven't dived straight in and bought a Mini yet. If I do, it will be the increase in the range of places I could fly it that made the decision for me.
The mini 3 pro is just the best drone right now. It's capable of being under 250g so it can be flown over crowds, stadiums. And with with its great camera, no other drone competes.
I don't get this mania for portrait-mode, when you are shooting landscapes. If I am looking at a landscape-format video, or photo, on my phone I just turn the phone around 90-degrees. Not-Rocket-Science 🙄
I think I agree....If you want a part of a landscape in a picture taken with your drone you can always "back away" and then crop in post. Maybe it is a feature for those who want to upload quickly with out working in post?
I had crushed my drone twice (mini 2, mini 3) by not running the basic calibration (compus, ...). Mini 3pro crush sensors don't work at night!!! The most easy impact area is THE GAMBAL and two-front-arms, bc it heavier at then the back-side, so try not to crush ur drone.
Mini 3 Pro is very fragile, I've just crushed it for the second time and each time the gimbal takes the hit and needs to be replaced. Thankfully I bought Care Refresh with it. But I am not sure it gonna last me for 2 years ;) With two out of three chances already having been used after just two months of owning it ;)
@@michallispl i actually did that also once with the Mini 3. I had the drone set to move smoothly it doesn't stop straight away, so I wasn't expecting to hit the branch. Fortunately I was very low off the ground and the gimbal was ok
