hi, did you guys experience anything like a delay capture moment when using the LCD. I don't know why but my R6 Mark II always waits less then half of a second to capture any moments and as a result a smile or open eyes is missed all the time.
Finally! The R6 Mark II is the most underrated camera of the past 12 months! It's best in its class (definitely ahead of the S5II and A7IV as a hybrid), but gets no attention (even the R8 got a user guide and DXOmark testing before this much better camera). I tried the rest and got this camera and it's just amazing!
A little side note, I would strongly suggest putting the camera into airplane mode overnight as the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth remain on and drain the battery fast. Since those remain on, you can review photos and video on your phone without turning the camera on. It’s a pretty cool feature to use while you’re working, however, once you’ve packed things up for the night I would definitely turn the camera to airplane mode to prevent that significant battery drain overnight. That or remove the battery and throw it on a charger. I figured this out the hard way and ended up having to stretch one battery out for an entire day of shooting since my battery in the camera died from this. Luckily, Canon is witchcraft and a single battery can last basically all day while shooting moderately often.
Wife just got me an R6 Mark II for Christmas. I primarily do ringside wrestling photography for local independent originations. Loved this video! Can't wait to check out more. Thanks!
At 1:12:10, the M-Fn button for AF area selection control is actually for tapping through the AF point/area options after pressing the AF point selection button. It doesn't refer to the more general use of the M-Fn button to activate the dial function menu that you demonstrated.
Around the 28:00 mark Jared explains the difference between RAW and JPEG. He gives a good explanation. I like to compare to film cameras. A RAW file is a the digital equivalent of a film negative. A JPEG file is the digital equivalent of a Polaroid instant print that would come out of a camera. If you are not familiar with film cameras, think of RAW and JPEG as the “before and after” of how the image is developed into a digital print for viewing or printing. The camera captures everything as RAW. When it saves as JPEG, it processes the original RAW file to a JPEG and then discards the original RAW file.
Just got my r 6 mark 2 a couple days ago. Balked at viewing your 2 hour video but it is FANTASTIC. Thank you for going thru the menus in detail. I mostly only do photography not video. Haven’t taken any photos yet but hope to get out this weekend. I upgraded from my t7i which I loved. Hope this will be better
UA-cam may not appreciate this video, but hell, I did!! bought this camera after watching your real world pReview (awesome video) and some other videos about the Sony A7IV and the R6 mark one. So I owned it for quite some time and still learned some really useful things! thank you Mr Polin! I also want to say, that I really enjoy your style of teaching! I grabbed my Camera, watched the video and "participated" :D
The best on UA-cam, I’ve become a huge fan and I’ve purchased all of your FroPacks. If I ever have a photography question, your channel is my first go to place for both gear and technique. Great Job, keep up the great work.
Jared, i like your no-nonsense attitude towards everything, like features that are worthless and you basically say that and say don't use this or that feature.
This was absolutely fantastic. No BS, right to the point. This will be my first full frame mirrorless, replacing my 6D Mark II (which is also excellent). Going on a photography vacation to Greece and wanted more versatility, features, and ability for quietness while rapid shooting. Again, thank you (and Steve) for such an excellent video.
I don't normally comment but I just wanted to say this was incredibly helpful and I hope you continue to do this for future cameras (also please don't ever delete this video). #igotthisfar
oh finally. ive got this camera for some time now. really enjoying the 4k60p full frame. ive learnt a few stuff from random views and diy. cool to see this 2hour video.
39:02 Counter intuitively, the higher the number, the cooler the tones, and the lower the number, the warmer the tones. This is due to the fact that, higher number denotes higher temperature (as in heat) and as things heat up, they start giving off visible colors starting from red to blue, hotter an item gets, bluer the light if gives off. As we tend to call blue tones "calmer" the relationship sounds inverted.
**OVF is not a simulation of depth of field, it stands for optical view finder. It turns off exposure preview of viewfinder. DOF settings are what pertain to preview.
Fro"KNOWS" how to set up a camera. I just bought 2 new Canon R6 Mark IIs and this video helped me set them up to maximize my efficiency. This is really a great teaching video in general for the functionality of this camera. I've never seen a better overall comprehensive yet concise explanation of features in a setup video. Thanks so much!
I just got this camera and this video was much more enjoyable than reading the manual. The main thing I needed help with was the auto focus feature, which is more robust that my previous camera. Many, many thanks!
This was fan-freaking-tastic Jared. Took me few days to go through all and set it up to my style and know what everything does helped a whole lot. Thanks for taking the time in making such a detailed walk through.
My * button is used to switch between SERVO & ONE SHOT. My AF-ON is my back button focus button. The one on the right is unassigned but i think I will assign AF eye to that one.
Dude thanks so much, you save me a lot of time with this, thanks so much man, and Steven just love you brother, you are not funny😅, thanks man I appreciate what you doing, you been my mentor whit out even knowing, paz y bendiciones para ti hermano.
Thanks for this setup guide - hugely helpful. I just bought my R6 Mark II after many hours of watching & reading reviews and testing cameras. I'm not too concerned that there's likely to be an upgrade soon - not sure what else they could add that I could use over and above the specs of this camera. It'll do me for the next decade or so while I get my head around all its capabilities.
Manual AF and focus peaking for vintage lenses and artsy stuff with the "shoot without lens" setting. Peaking is super useful for crappy lenses like the Helios 85/1,5 which is impossible to focus otherwise and still will be soft but for boudoir stuff, awesome, dreamy.
Perfect time and also because I've only shot with this body once in the AF was all over the bloody place. Actually today I'm supposed to be shooting with it again but I don't really have a handle on it. Full seen eye detect is what I was hoping would work but you also have to be able to quickly switch out to single point to focus on something else. It's been a challenge so far nothing is easy as what you see in some of these videos.
i dont use full area autofocus as it could just jump to a face at the corner. so i use a focus box in the center, so i know when i have the subject centered hes going to be in focus not anyone to the sides. you can try that
@@truthseeker6804 Thanks Yeah I've tried it only in practice but not in a real shooting environment yet. It's a lot of buttons and a lot of settings to get it all together so eventually I will.
@Simon, due to weddings and kids baseball/softball where people sit directly behind the fence and batter, I find 3 button back button focus to be my best option. I keep whole area tracking on AF-ON, the star is set to single point only and the right button is eye AF. I can use the whole area MOST of the time but if it jumps somewhere I don't want, I just go single point on the one I do want and if I can see the eye, I'll then hit eye af. This solved 90% of the auto focus issues for me.
@@pyrocix since I've used it so infrequently I keep forgetting how I set the buttons haven't gained the muscle memory yet. Unfortunately I haven't done a shoot with it yet to really start getting it down. I'm going to test your setup out on a creative setup tab and see what I can do with it. I'm trying to get to a place where it can find the eyes and stick with it unless I change it to a separate subject. Models and other person's standing in front of me.
Another great video , I just got the R6mk2 and what a fantastic no nonsense set up guide . Could we have some more lense reviews as for most new photographers this is really helpful, I have watched all your RF reviews multiple times .
Always enjoy you and your channel. A quick comment on the long exposure noise reduction is that it takes a second photo immediately after the image with the shutter closed, what in Astrophotography would be called a dark. It will have any hot pixels and also represent the thermal noise that is present and is subtracted from the image immediately - the corrected image is what is saved. It is really probably not something you can say you are correcting as easily after the fact. This is a bigger deal for astrophotography and landscape perhaps, it may not be important for the images you shoot. Anyway, thanks for your thoughts on setup for the R6m2!
Thanks for the video. Just got my camera and used this video to do the set up. I need to go back as I missed a few things, but this made things so much easier.
Hi Jared - good video. Here's an example of where you use auto ISO, perhaps. I shoot in Italy mostly - the sports arenas for basketball have awful light here, mostly. There are games where, I have to try to peg the speed at 1/800 or max 1/1200 and the aperture at 2.8 on my 70-200 or 24-70 zooms. Since the action is continuous, I'd rather be assured of at least 1/800 and let the iso determine if I am shooting white uniforms, dark skin, or open court reflections etc. This is also a situation where you can use the comp. setting. If you set the exposure comp to say 1/3 or 1/2 a stop, and let the ISO float, its very effective. This is how I shot the 1DX years ago, when it was the only Canon that allowed ISO auto in manual settings. What do you think?
Thanks Jared for this movie!! I just bought an R6 Mark II camera and your User Guide was very helpful. I really appreciate the work you do... greetings from Transylvania..
Great vid Fro, I have the R6 MK1 and the vid you made for that was the best i could find and helped me so much. If i get the chance to upgrade at some stage this will be the first vid i will checkout.
I have a Canon 90D and when I upgrade to mirrorless, I either want get this one or the Sony A7IV. I’ve been liking the photos I’ve been seeing on the Sony Alpha subreddit.
#igothisfar, thank you! The video is very helpful. However, explaining just a little more about the stuff that you gloss over because you never use it would have been even more helpful, but I also understand that the video would probably have to be 8 hrs. long at this point. I was out of the game for far too long, so a lot of the stuff in the R6mII's menus just doesn't tell me anything, or doesn't work exactly like I remembered it. But that's part of the fun in rediscovering an old hobby. I've been playing aroung with the 24-70 f2.8 and a few prime lenses for the past few weeks, and so far I'm super impressed with how good and how fast the camera and all of the lenses actually are. Great stuff!
Thanks for making this video! I've been a Sony girl for the past couple of years, but I got a new job and this is the camera they had for me. I haven't really gotten much of a chance to get to know it before using it, so this video was extremely helpful. I watched the entire thing!
1:10:50 thank god for your video. I had watched it when I originally got my R6 MkII, but the other day I was shooting an event and my focus would NOT stay locked on to where I put it, it kept drifting as I recomposed my shot after focusing. Somehow that "Preview AF" setting had been enabled, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was going on. I got through the event but it was annoying as hell. Re-watching this video solved it when I disabled that setting. Thanks!
Great tutorial. Just what I need coming from the Rebel t6i. Huge jump yes but this will help taking documenting my artwork to the next level. So many overwhelming features. I will include the crappy kit lens along with my other lenses to use in trading up for t 24-70 Ef lens with adapter. I hope to eventually graduate from using my iPhone for video to the camera. I may have more questions moving forward...
Hey @Jared Polin , thank you for this. I have changed everything I need to, but I seem to only have 4K 50.00P and not 59.94P. I need help please, what is the reason for this?
#Igotthisfar - I just got two r6 mark 2's for work and had a shoot today. I just got the cameras yesterday and watched all but 10 mins of your R6 mII user guide last night. I still have a lot to learn but your user guide was a must for me. If I hadn't gone through it last night, I don't think today would have gone so well. I am upgrading my marketing equip for work and this was an amazing step up from my 80D and T7i. Like wow! I'm in love with the r6 but going nuts over the 28-70 f2 and the 70-200 2.8. I'll be picking up a fropack today. THANK YOU Jared for all of your AMAZING tutorials. My dude!
I just upgraded my rp to a r6ii and it is vastly different. This video is a big help. Also, I use the fv mode. It’s basically manual mode for me. I generally set iso to auto then adjust shutter and aperture, and as I need I adjust iso. If I want it can all me manual in this mode, it just gives me the ability to set whatever I want to auto if I deem best.
42:49 Do the 'Lens Aberration Correction' options only apply to JPG so that the JPG is altered? I think it should not alter the RAW files but only toggle the metadata to let DPP know that it should apply corrections on the spot but not alter the RAW file. I cannot find any definitive source on if 'Lens Aberration Correction' alter the RAW image data like expected when shooting in JPG. Especially when Jared mentions at 43:32 lens corrections can unexpectedly crop the image in the camera. So does this mean RAW files would be affected (as well)?
This was a nice intro...great to help me know what settings matter, which ones don't. But after spending a couple days with the camera...I would love a DEEP DIVE into settings. I know there are a lot of cameras out there...BUT lets face it, in the first quarter of 2024 this camera is the most bang for the buck! So I think many folk are buying, or should be buying it, both amateur and professional, it is such a great combination of abilities for the price. And lets face it, everyone needs to save their money for GLASS! Would love a part two deep dive, going into more explanations of settings. A video on ballancing shutter speed, ISO and aperature would be great as well. Have been trying to capture the sunlight through the clouds, the way I see it with my eyes. Noticing there are subtle nuances between adjusting these three. Deep dive my brother, you have hooked the novice, now teach me! lol I SHOOT RAW!! DUH!
I actually use the MF peaking ON not for shooting manual but to notify me when my bag flips the Af/MF switch to MF. It happens a lot on my 70-200. Extremely helpful.
Amazing, yet another great video. I used the R10 one and now stepping up this has been a great help. Plus I got all the fropacks and they are outstanding, skittles...enough said
I’ve been shooting photography for years now and I never realized I was supposed to line the sensor mount dot up with the lens mount dot. Haha I don’t know how I made it this far. Fantastic video and thank you.
Good info but a few things - Shooting JPEG does not “bake” in everything into the processing. Some things can still be undone in light room. Agreed you have less leeway if you should JPEG but then Cannon’s in-camera camera processing is so good that I suggest all the an intermediate photographer should shoot JPEG and also raw as a backup if you know what to do with them. Also the ISO setting does not change the sensitivity of the sensor. It’s a post-processing step applied to the RAW image by the camera. Also it’s “horizintal” not “horizontical”
I’ve been watching you for a few years now and for my first full frame camera, the RP, and then my first r6, now I’m watching this for my latest purchase. But I have one issue it’s just driving me nuts watching now. Please grab some white paint and paint those black spots in your wall behind you, so I don’t keep trying to wipe dust off of my iPad while I’m watching the video. 😂 thank you very much for the great videos!

Somehow that "Preview AF" setting had been enabled, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was going on. I got through the event but it was annoying as hell. Re-watching this video solved it when I disabled that setting. Thanks!
thank you for all these efforts ,we wish you all the best
Perfect timing! Just got it a couple days ago😃
Great video on the R6 Mark II....getting acclimated with my new camera and your video was extremely helpful learning the menu layout. Thanks!
how do i get the menu screen to be the standard menu screen versus it showing tiny at the bottom?
Thank you so much for making this video, I like your style ! I just got mine and you have helped kickstart me into my new adventure!
30:35 Bracketing...not just exposure compensation.
We just bought 2 of these and your tutorial has helped us a lot. Thanks!
Damn currently I'm using a RP and am sure tempted to upgrade to the R6II! Also so basically FV unlocks auto for Shutter and Aperture?
Great job on the camera review! Your insights were detailed and helpful. Keep up the excellent work! It is beneficial, I just got my CANON R6 Mark II.
Didn't seem to have my camera set right. Thanks for the video on Canon R6 Mark11. I now understands the setting much better.
Thanks for this video. I really did't want to read that 1100 page book. Reminds me of Windows 3.1 manual.
Thanks for the detailed walkthrough. Really helps
I watched all of this.. multiple times.
DUH!
Thanks for the breakdown Jared! Very helpful
That was brilliant, thank you Jared & Stephen
I actually use the MF peaking ON not for shooting manual but to notify me when my bag flips the Af/MF switch to MF. It happens a lot on my 70-200. Extremely helpful.
Good tip!
Jared...that was massive! Thank you so very much for your tutorial. you are amazing. Appreciate!
Great as always. It's hard to pass so many information for this duration by keeping audience happy .
Love you Jared for your teaching. Always learning from you for some years❤
I got this far.... I really enjoyed this video. It has helped me to really understand and know how to setup my new R6 mark II. Thank you Jared!☺🙏
Amazing, yet another great video. I used the R10 one and now stepping up this has been a great help. Plus I got all the fropacks and they are outstanding, skittles...enough said
Fabulous video! The best guide I’ve ever seen. Love your work!❤
What an AMAZING resource, thank you. Now I have a new camera and a new camera yoda...sweet!
No mention of the Focus problem?: " sometimes when the lens is focused way off to start with it can be difficult to acquire focus at very close range"
I’ve been shooting photography for years now and I never realized I was supposed to line the sensor mount dot up with the lens mount dot. Haha I don’t know how I made it this far. Fantastic video and thank you.
😂😂😂😂😂
Good info but a few things - Shooting JPEG does not “bake” in everything into the processing. Some things can still be undone in light room. Agreed you have less leeway if you should JPEG but then Cannon’s in-camera camera processing is so good that I suggest all the an intermediate photographer should shoot JPEG and also raw as a backup if you know what to do with them.
Also the ISO setting does not change the sensitivity of the sensor. It’s a post-processing step applied to the RAW image by the camera. Also it’s “horizintal” not “horizontical”
Every time he said “horizontically” it made me laugh lol
Great video. Really helped me get my R6 set up correctly
Thank you so much for your user guides Jarod. It is much appreciated !!
