You can get a copy of the suspension with rotor head for small ships on my workshop, look at my latest prototype suspension frame, with that it should be possible to recreate what i did here

You can never merge a grid that has blocks inside eachothers hitbox, so if you only have one hinge or rotor between the grids, the hinge part or rotor head would exist inside the hinge or the rotors hitbox. Thing is, if you tear this down you can see the black magic used, i use what i refer to as a anchor hinge. So there's a subgrid between the ship and the strut. So it goes: ship->hinge->advanced rotor(-20 offset)->strut.

You need a subgrid in-between. Example: two grids 1 rotor, you can't merge Add a hinge before your rotor and it will merge. I reccomend you to download this and see what i did with the rotors

how the heck did you do it and not crashing the whole thing? i do soemthing similar and when i rotate the landing gears its totally killed the whole ship central mass and stated to spin... around the gears! and every time totally different direction...
@@AlejandroRomanov i think any size that would work with regular wheels without breaking. There is most likely a limit where the games collision calculations just can't handle the simulation. But this as far as I've tested can handle anything I've thrown at it
@@Kennet0508 Somewhere at the take-off stage, this structure would have turned over. It would tip over to the right or to the left. I think it is necessary to check the stability, as it is done for sea vessels, for example.

I mean, unnecessarily complicated? Id challenge you to make a less complicated retractable landing gear which features: - airtight encased - suspension based landing gear allowing for hard landings - fully retractable at an angled slope I'd love to see it less complicated with the same functionality 😂
@@Kennet0508 you miss understood what i was saying... when a piston and mag plate will accomplish the same basic thing with out risk of exploding... more often then not i do something complex like that and it all horribly goes wrong with things flying through the air and my screen trying to make me throw up... i didnt mean offense by my comment its cool but me do something like that is just asking for everything to explode lol
@@angelusmortis3256 ohh but this thing is so much more! 🥳 First: Since it merges to the main grid, it's a part of the ship, not a flimsy landing gear on a subgrid, this is like building fixed outriggers to the sides of your ship Second: There's the suspension with landing gear, that allows you to hit the ground falling from 150m without exploding depending on your settings I've tried having landing gears on subgrid, its rough, tends to blow up if you look at it wrong and makes the ship handle like a slug with drag so i wanted a better solution :D

I really wish this was just a block in vanilla. Everybody likes large ships but even smaller ships can benefit from suspension in the landing gear.

It is vanilla.....ish. you can easily attach rotor head to suspension block using buildvision.

its a modified BP, best you can do is to copy paste an existing suspension with rotor head as you cant build it in vanilla

It's a modified blueprint, and there seems to be something about grids on wheels that just can absorb more damage

Painstaking research into rotor and piston offsets and thousands of hours playing with rotors, hinges and mechanisms 😅

Yup, it's vanilla, but you can't make it without either being admin and copy pasting an existing one, use Build vision or use a script.

Yeah, not alot of ways around that, but that's part of the sacrifice of having it merged to the main grid making it have little to no clang

how to build what?
@@Kennet0508 you are using wheel suspension for the landing gear part of the build, how do you build from that block, it dosen't work like a rotor.

They only do that during deployment and retraction, once fully deployed or retracted they are a part of the main grid
