He has a lot of pre-packaged answers where he isn't really saying a whole bunch with a lot of words. Trevor really does a great job of trying to get real answers while also being respectful
Russia 🇷🇺 a military soldier is a military leader and is not the one 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Eric Adams , keep up the great work .
Yep, I have a friend who works in the Bronx, in education. He cut funding to schools 30%
Truly.
Exactly. This guy is pandering words without action. He's going after Guiliani yet letting his DA go soft on hard crimes. My neighbor got stabbed during a mugging and his suspect got out after 2 days since he survived. Trash leader.
My dad had dyslexia and people didn't know about it at that time (early 1970s), so when he was in high school they thought he was dumb. When he was graduating, his school counselor told him he was too dumb to be an engineer (which is what he wanted to be) and should be a locksmith. His house had been broken into a few times, so he designed and built a keypad lock for his house, then told the counselor he'd been a locksmith and now he wanted to be an engineer. He went on to college for engineering and had multiple patents in engineering and did very well for himself as an engineer.
Great interview!!!!
Your dad is a legend.
That's very inspiring. I believe my mom of 65 has dyslexia, and while it was never officially diagnosed has struggled with it's symptoms. I'm glad there is light being shined on this today, in the effort to give people the support they need.
My eight year has been diagnosed with dyslexia, these stories give me so much hope for him
That is a beautiful story. Kudos to your father for his determination.
As an educator I applaud the Mayor’s initiative to test every student for dyslexia. That’s huge. I hope he is following up by insuring that all teachers receive and apply the ongoing training that will help these students to maximize their intellectual abilities.
yes!
Hes currently trying to defund 215$ million from public schools googles free
@@michaeldatuin15 exactly. Guess my sarcasm didn’t convey.
Everything starts with 💰 money.
I'm not from there but I still can't get over the fact that in nyc the mayor has any control over education. I guess it means they can make changes more easily than a school board alone but thats a lot of jobs for one person. Of course they have to have things voted on by city council and they have a separately elected school board but in nyc the mayor has a large amount of power to run stuff by themself
Trevor is a genius interviewer. He does not allow a guest to circumvent a question or topic, yet he pushes to get an honest answer out of his guest. No stone is unturned and he is so thorough more so than some interviews I've seen with college educated seasoned journalist. Great interview.
He’s a smart man
Trevor I wish you had these conversations with mayors accross the US. This is amazing. Some of these questions and changes truly start at the city level.
Trevor is an amazing interviewer. I am always amazed how excellent he can control and balance a talk regarding any issues. Doesn’t matter which side of the fence he’s on because he treats the people as a person not a subject nor race. Keep doing what your doing sir brilliant person.✌🏿✌🏿✌🏿✌🏾✌🏽✌🏼✌🏻
Trevar Noah is so intelligent. The way he asks question and engaged his guest is top notch
To bad he is not American born, if ever there is the next black President in America, Trevor Noah is that man.
Trevor Noah outstanding Q&A.
I only wish every interviewer on tv were as smart and insightful as Trevor Noah. He's brilliant, well-prepared, and very adept at eliciting thorough, well-reasoned responses from his guests, no matter their political persuasion.
Unfortunately the interviewee sounds like he’s still on a campaign trail.
Yes he is. And comical . 😅
Trevor and Jordan being future president and vp would be incredible but I honestly wouldn't wish that stress and loss of integrity on them. Once the system is fixed (probably never gonna happen), they'd fit perfectly.
Hes still trying to defund public schools by 215$ million
Noah is a NWO 🤡…
I hope can implement the programs he's discussing, cause it could be the framework for other cities. He's also right about the food we eat. I went from fibromyalgia, type 2 diabetes, infertility, sleep apnea one year after I stopped eating sugar and carbohydrates. I'm down 60 pounds, diabetes in remission, having a regular cycle every month. Never in my life have I had a cycle every month before I'd get 1 a year, maybe. No longer suffering from aches and pain in my joints. I'm clearer mentally sleep apnea improved but not gone.
Food regulations is a massive issue! I have a friend that had massive amounts of acne when she lived in the US. She lives a reasonably healthy diet.
When she moved here her acne cleared up completely. Her comment, "must be the meat".
Trevor Noah needs to be a host/emcee of a presidential debate…hella sharp and sees thru BS
I think everyone should watch this interview. From elementary schools on up. So much great knowledge and truth. I love the way the Mayor speaks about things that are an issue. With happy energy, confidence and love! Very insightful!! So much growth needs to happen not only in New York. Everywhere!! Love will always be the answer! Always!!
How about preventing foreign companies and investors from buying up homes?
You gonna buy them
YES
He is so right, being poor doesn't make it okay for us to risk our freedom by committing crimes. I grew up poor and I'm not saying I wasn't tempted to steal, but I was aware "This could cost me a lot more than I want to pay for that thing"; It's a balancing act. It's hard, but it's a balance.
But did you committ other crimes and get away with it?
I am always amazed by the level of intelligence shown by Trevor when he speaks. He is without a doubt one of the most intelligent people i know. His approach, towards issues either being an answer to controversial questions or him asking the questions is priceless.
You know him? Really? I'll bet he does not know you nor care about you in the least even though you are a syncophant.
@@paulaltman9751 they obviously mean they “know of”
And commending someone’s intelligence isn’t sycophancy.
Sycophancy is allowing an egregious crook and criminal to run for a 2nd term in office.
Set the stupidity bar that low often do ya ?
I have been watching this for ten minutes and he is not answering questions at all. He has been dodging them left and right
I live in a densely populated city similar to NY city but rarely see homeless or (evidentally) mentally ill people on the streets. Difference between us and the US is we have universal healthcare and no guns. Republicans can argue all they want for them but they are the root causes of many issues in US
What’s guns got to do with homeless? They don’t have any, they’re expensive.
it's hard to control the middle class without the fear of joining the "crazy" homeless.
@@jw7268 gotta keep that reserve army of labor, else people might start fighting for a better world
It's funny. In their pursuit to protect the rich and promote religious extremists, Republicans are actually creating political instability. Pretty soon we'll be just like the "third world" countries they despise.
Real difference is your city is not ruled by Democrats we have here. It is not guns or healthcare that created more homeless but the policy. Homeless problem is much less in Republican run cities with the same healthcare and gun issues.
I'm sorry, this was a really softball interview. In 6 months, he’s essentially waged war on unhoused New Yorkers. He's made extreme budget cuts to the Department of Education ($215 million), affordable housing, and parks. All the while he increased the NYPD's budget by $90 million. His Rent Guidelines Board just raised rents on 2.4 million New Yorkers. The biggest jump in stabilized rents since Bloomberg was mayor.
Thank you. I'm sick of people giving this guy a pass. He's literally done nothing to improve NY. But just because he's not in a constant news cycle; nothing is really scrutinized.
Also, I'm a little bothered by how many people saw this interview & could possibly think he'd be a great president. It was a softball interview & he really didn't give any straight answers.
Rent subsidized Apts in NY are ridiculous. They are passed generationally from family members. That is wrong. People like AOC(I use ONLY because she’s a Public figure-not as an insult) that make the $$ they do shouldn’t be in rent stabilized Apts. There needs to be reviews after a certain amount of time like Welfare. Like welfare, it is not a lifestyle, it is a bridge gap to help people get on their way. Seeing people occupying apartments for 20-30 yrs is ridiculous. Meanwhile, younger generations are struggling.
You think Viacom is going to let him
@@stanbyme7874 You are referring to rent controlled apartments and there are only about 16,000 of them left in NYC. The overwhelming majority of renters impacted by the Mayor's major rent hike are living in rent stabilized apartments. Over 2.4 million people. That's really a punching bag issue that's used to bring attention away from the fact that most rent stabilized apartments are barley affordable and (can cost as much as 2,700 per month) and there needs to be real policy changes to protect vulnerable tenants from bad actors (not talking about mom and pop landlords) or we will see a major increase in homelessness.
New Yorkers never thought that a Mayor could be worst than De Blassio
Give me a break guy doesn’t answer any question honestly
"But what do you DO???"
i talk alot but do nothing but fill the pockets of my peers and let NYC turn into Gotham City.
I currently live in a shelter and ive seen with my own eyes the problem with the system. If the mayor is really serious about helping these people he should reach out to me.
he is not Eric Adams is a fascist
I've been homeless (not in NY) and I'm sorry you're dealing with that. I'm also sorry that I'm not in any position to be of help. Please accept a virtual hug from an internet stranger 🤗 And if you need to chat, I'm here.
@@victoriawilliams2786 thanks
Maybe you should reach out because I suppose the Maire has a lot on his plate. You could use what he says here, take him on his words
I don't think his office will be reading youtube comments. You can google if there is a public event where you'll be able to connect, or you could e-mail his office to inquire if there is an event in the near future where you can talk to the mayor. For example if he is visiting a shelter in the near future. Could help to share a short summary of your experience and ideas in the e-mail to let them know it has value for the mayor to talk to you.
Trevor touched his back
Ooh wee 🤣🤣🤣 all part of a common love handshake/hug combo
Great, humble guy, great interview. Thanks, the both of you.
He is so right, you can't "police" your way out of a lot of societal issues. Resources and access to resources are crucial.
except he has decreased funding for schools by 218 million and increased police funding. So theres that....
ny.chalkbeat.org/2022/6/24/23181576/ny-budget-cuts-fair-student-funding-principals-enrollment-adams
Weird how all those mandates went and are still going on if that’s the case…
On the other hand the mayor also supports "stop & frisk", so be careful for lip service.
Kudos on NYC Mayor Eric Adams for cracking down on the mislabeling of dyslexia and doing something about it!!! Now THAT’S a REAL Mayor! YES! YES! YES! 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽
He isn't a REAL Mayor. He is a REAL racist PoS.
Bot
This was a great interview, as always with Trevor. But Mayor really just said a whole lot of pretty words that didn’t mean much.
It kind of reminded me of the Kelly Ann interview where he just kept addressing the fact that the question STILL wasn’t answered 😅 politely though lol
true. kind of an art in politics. maneuvering, dodging and redirecting lol
A lot better than what new york has been having.
Yeah seemed like every answer required an anecdote that didnt actually give anything substantive.
But hey hes dropping crime by destroying motorcycles!! Not to mention the possible revenue, recycling of parts and then the waste and where it has to go.
I wish Trevor would get rid of the audience. They’re the worst. Trevor asks how he’s going to stop crime. Adams completely ignores the question and gets a round of applause.
The best thing about Trevor is that he often steps outside of the lane inhabited by the other late night hosts. Especially Colbert.
Plus he's an excellent interviewer.
How so? Lol
@@emmettorton5411He's interviewed Dan Crenshaw and Kellyanne Conway, for example. Lol.
@@countdebleauchamp not feeling the sarcasm i'm reading here. And, so? I feel like those interviews were funny, but what actually came of them? a more leftist audience sees their content? i don't know man. i guess, i just feel pessimistic about media that shows me the surface level of things. If he has content that really takes a stand on social issues I want to know where it is.
Wow! Education is KEY! My Mother had an 8th grade education and worked as a janitor, raising 5 children. We grew up in a small town in Illinois with one public school and excellent teachers. My physics, chemistry, biology teacher, Mr. Hunt took me under his wing and helped me dream post graduation. He and his wife took me on college visits on their own time and helped me apply for a scholarship. I worked to save what I could babysitting, house cleaning, corn detasseling, typing . . . anything I could to earn a dime. I graduated as the valedictorian and eventually became a physician. I don't know where I would be today had it not been for education and teachers that cared! It's the obvious answer for all children!
No one is stopping anyone from going to school. There are great schools all over NYC that includes , Brooklyn , The Bronx and Queens.
6:53 This federal program sounds great! There should be a stipulation that it only allows x amount of houses to be owned by any individual. That should close loopholes around rich people buying city blocks of property and renting it out. It would also promote people to become homeowners, which is desparately needed right now!
New York city has been segregated since Ellis Island. No mayor in history has ever tried to change that segregation. Not one! How can this mayor change it? The powers that be starting with the Governor don't want to change it
This is about to (or already has, I forget) become the law in the Netherlands. Definitely a step in the right direction, for certain.
the more adams talks, the more he sounds like a typical politician. he just says sound bites that are polled to get the best reaction by the audience
Give him till year 3, we'll see he's still all talk. The root of crimes within minorities isn't tough cops it's the glorification of crime and violence mixed with "no snitching." You're not in a gang they shoot up the block you call the cops FYM no snitchin.
he could be a nice actor
Love this Mayor! New York City 🏙 needs this Mayor. Praying for all his endeavors come true. My hometown needs a revival!
He is a racist PoS. NYC needs balance not someone who is racist.
And how's that working out for you.. the idiot is a darker shade of diblasio
I feel like he has rehearsed answers and not really answering Trevors questions. Trevor is doing a great respectful way of dealing with this.
Eric Adams is a fascist
Amazing interview, I respect how Trevor asks questions. I kinda miss the old format without an audience when he did interviews (personal preference) But great none the less
imo the whole show is better without the audience.
Very intelligent questions but the mayor either evaded or answered them with personal anecdotes. It must be frustrating to conduct an interview like this.
He doesn't really answer the question ⁉️
Yes he does. Basic, excellent education. Health care. Nutrition.
Forcing vegan lunches into school cafeterias is a cute idea, but that is not revolutionary change in the school system. Attendance is down, that's a bigger problem.
What needs to stop as well, is stopping certain investors from aggressively casing the Black neighborhoods, knocking on their doors and pressuring them to sell their houses.
Trevor is really asking tough questions but the Mayor is just not giving straight answers🤦🏽♀️POLITICIANS smdh. .
He danced around not answering that police question a whole lot.
Mayor Eric...that is the kind of real we need.
I hope for him to succeed as we know colored politicians are made to fail to support the theory that only whites could rise up🙏🙏🙏
I am from Seattle, I like what Mayor of NYC said his about his plan, hope he is able to achieve/execute what he said, not easy, is a very big city
As a New Yorker, we are still waiting for the mayor to start work. Stop your publicity stunts in your fancy suits and get to work. No one feels safe in NYC.
Lol his answer to that question about police funding was hilarious because he made no attempt whatsoever to answer it. Most questions he does the typical sort of politician dodging or reframing of the question so that it suits him better but he still mostly gets around to adressing the issue. But with the police funding he just basically goes "haters gonna hate", he was so shameless in avoiding the question.
No, he addressed it directly but stated that other services are necessary.
In my opinion hes a "cops are above the law" mayor
Agreed. That was awful in how he avoided the question. And it was SUCH a great question as well!
Nyc voted for it so they get it!
Okay, but did he answer the question tho🙃😂
he's dyslexic to questions too
I love the way Trevor was ready with major questions 👏👏👏
How can he talk about gentrification when avg rent in Manhattan is 4k for a one bedroom and there are no policies or incentives in place to build more? Seems like a talking point.
Pretty inaccurate to suggest a person with bipolar cannot make decisions for themselves.
I don’t know what your experience is but I’m bipolar; I provide for my family. I need medication just like anyone else with any type of chronic condition. But what you’re saying is harmful. We can make decisions for our selves.
@@pixie7349 Please reread my post. What I am saying is consistent with what YOU are saying. What ADAMS said was to suggest those living with bipolar "cannot make decisions". I have family with bipolar. Yes, in full mania they need some help, but when they are managing well...they make decisions like you and I.
One of Adams' biggest challenges is that he doesn't listen and usually thinks that he knows everything. I'm not surprised to hear him making stuff up about bi polar disorder, despite his complete lack of knowledge or training concerning mental health. I voted for this guy, and now really regret that vote. For instance, he cancelled kids swimming classes at the parks and recreation public pools this summer. What? And just recently children drowned at beaches in Queens. He is spitting slogans like a fool, but getting very little accomplished.
I am so conflicted by this conversation. Gotta say some of these questions around housing are not hitting it. They're close but...
That has me wondering how many inmates were once "dumb" kids, who might have never gone down the path to crime and prison, if only they weren't ostracized, and got help learning to work around learning disabilities.
So many. I can't even imagine, but it's got to be A LOT.
How many school shooters have fallen through the cracks when they needed these services?
@@Anne--Marie FACTS!!!!!

As someone born and raised in New York City who has contributed a lot, I had to move for socioeconomic reasons after 44 years, with a now deceased former retired MTA parent too, so there is a lot I can type right now about my dear ole city, but I digress. ☮️
Edit: Btw, him speaking in third person gives me some pause. And, my Mommy told me a lot of positive affirmations too, but I'm sure she never thought she would pass the way she did in the Brooklyn borough she loved and that raised her, nor having her youngest daughter not be able to afford residing in the city that raised her.
Adams is against gentrification?? Really?? What about those rent increases that just got passed? Whatever you want to say about DeBlasio, he got NYC some rent freezes. I am so disappointed in Adams.
It is not your genetics, it is your dinner...so true!
Too many metaphors to cover real answers.
Wow. 90% garbage. 10% substance.
Kudos on defining such a complicated point. Making theft easy to avoid for low income ppl who still contribute to society, even though that is not their actual intention(survival), is a complex subject because theft is parallel but not equal to being low income. Making it easy to apply and be accepted to programs that do not affect a credit score or loan application is a vital part of lifting the one we need to lift.
That's right! Let's talk about the hypocrisy! People always have issues with Section 8 and Section 42 housing in their neighborhood. People gotta live somewhere! Get 'em mayor!! He is speaking to me. I am so tired of people being two faces about benevolence.
WOW .....great interview . Eric Adams man enough to say he is incomplete .... like him .
First time I’ve seen this Eric Adams. Pretty impressed. I like this man.
He is cutting public education though lol and increasing police funding…
The mayor Adam's does seem genuine and honest. He did answer some questions like a typical politician. I believe he wants to make a change but he doesn't have all the answers. Trevor did a great job asking the right questions. Hopefully mayor Adam's will be able to make changes 🙏🏽
But he seems like the one who will listen. What do you suggest about the rent rates? I’m stumped.
@@moniquewrites9046 he does seem like he will listen. I believe rent should be regulated. I believe rent should be based on a family's income after taxes(what they actually take home). I don't understand why average rent cost 1800 to 3000 a month or more. When most people are not even making $80,000.
This guy is so full of himself, I cannot listen to him refer to himself in 3rd person
Trevor Noah is the best host of all time! Such an insightful wise man. Thank you for always asking the right questions.
Mr. Adams makes a wonderful point. Come be a part of the community instead of pretending it doesn't exist. When I moved to Point Breeze in Philadelphia, a majority African American and Asian neighborhood; I didn't really understand the culture. But when I discovered it, as well as all the local spots that have existed for decades I fell in love with the neighborhood even more. This guy knows his city inside and out and its a really tough and thankless job but I think he's the man for it. Hold criminals accountable for their actions but also treat every citizen with respect and dignity because they make up the cultural glue that holds NYC and any other city in America together.
When we raise up the least of us, we elevate all of us.
"I am 'incompetent' as mayor." There I fixed the title.

15:20 i laugh in a sad way at how he says "we can be safe and have justice" followed by what initially seems like a call to be humble in that regard with "but let's not kid ourselves, we've been producing an inferior product." This had me thinking "okay, cool, sounds like you're bout to say something about how mistakes are made by police but they have a duty and yada yada." But instead.... he complains about how much is spent on education?? WHAT? Where is the joke? Worse, where is the sense in this jump?
16:00 this part has me confused. He was previously talking about supporting mental health but now is calling out specifically "counselors, therapists, and prescription drugs" (paraphrased). What subset of those groups is the problem, those operating inside a prison? Any prison or private/public? Or what??
I accept you do understand this was but a 30 minute interview (serious but) with a comedian, not a presentation of a policy review document.
@@ntatemohlomi2884 His "they have been playing us" rhetoric is so ambiguous. It's like he's flirting with conspiracy theories. I understand where Adams is coming from my children were put in special programs because of their last name. I didn’t realize until my child spoke to me about not liking being pulled out of her regular class lesson for these services which also interrupts their learning. I had to fight tooth and nail to get my child out of receiving the services. Sometimes we rely on the professionals but they don’t have full knowledge that culture also plays a factor that is not sometimes included in their assessment.
I love how he still refers to his Mother as "Mommy." It is the sweetest!
It’s so frustrating, because the mayor has allowed for so many arrests of homeless people and buskers, people have been there for years, and he’s doing nothing to change that. the police force is truly a brute squad.
The criminals are just undercover humanitarians. Misunderstood and just expressing themselves. Wake up. Stop endangering people's lives.

The punishment for false crime reporting is 3 months in jail or a 500$ fine. If Eric Adams cant get him to do at least 1 month in jail than its the same as letting him get away with it. All things considered 500$ fine isnt going to impact him, if he even pays it.

The NYC Mayor Eric Adams, is absolutely correct, when you don’t start where the problem is existing to begin to start the change that’s why there’s so much failure and it continues.
Sometimes the doctors over medicate the people, because they don’t know how to check out if the prescription is the correct medication to take, not just give them anything because the insurance will pay a percentage of the cost. The pledge thing was odd but of all things, I'd rather have that than bible thumping and fear mongering. Very well spoken but actions speak louder than words. I'm not from NYC but I think it has a bright future with this dude.
Also... 18:50 "disrespect" is a feeling, Eric Adams... How does criminalizing people in this way help the city and businesses?
NONONONONO!!! Trevor why are you giving this monster a voice?
