The Confederacy and the Civil War lasted 4 years, and people demand they're remembered, while slavery existed for 246 years, and the same people want it forgotten.
This kind of knowledge both belongs here and is wasted here. Bravo.
We should let them know that no one alive today is a confederate soldier, that was so long ago, they need to just move on, since that’s what they love to tell any black person who’s been actively discriminated against in the current day.

Considering they just replaced a statue in Arkansas with a statue of JOHNNY CASH, I don't think it's too hard to find alternatives to racist traitors from the Civil War that are also endearing to everyone in the South.

It shouldn’t be too hard especially since the us civil war was nearly 200 years ago and plenty of famous people have existed since then. And whilst civil war people are historical regardless, should modern people care about them to the point of naming buildings after them in today’s age when there have been several famous people that have come since the civil war?

Much better is the fact him trying to stiff her could be a major factor in him being convicted. Cohen testified that Trump wanted to string her along till after the election, because it didn't matter if it came out after. So bury the story without actually paying. The timeline and other evidence backs this up. On the other hand, Trump asserts that it was about his family, not the election. No way that fits. So if he wasn't so cheap, then be much harder to prove that it was about the election. In which case, no longer a felony. Jury just convicts on the lesser falsifying records bit.

Of course Cohen is not on trial - he was being cross-examined by the defense counsel, i.e. "on cross" as it is known in Canada, an elementary court procedure the right to which is guaranteed to all Canadians and their representative barristers as established by the Canada Evidence Act, R.S.C., 1985, c. C-5, § 10(1). We've got a similar thing worked out down here, too, except we didn't wait until the mid-'80's to codify it. Then again, the U.S. didn't wait until the mid-'80's to shed the deadweight of the Crown from our shoulders either, so I guess all y'alls up there have an acceptable-ish excuse for taking so long... anyway, hope this helps.

Are they seriously trying to argue that Cohen's lies are worse than Trump's? Both have their faults, but the focus should be on the facts and evidence presented. This trial is about getting to the truth, no matter how messy it is.

Yea, that's kind of what happens when you commit crimes, the people who suffered for those crimes tell the truth in the hopes that they receive justice. Legal Retribution.
It's called "cross-examination of a witness" - I'm sure you've heard the term before, maybe on TV or in a movie, but fun fact, it's a real law thingy! The idea is to poke holes in the given testimony, and ideally catch the person under cross in a lie (or demonstrate the telling of a deliberate "un-truth"), thereby invalidating their entire testimony. This scenario is known as "perjury," and the goal is to induce the deponent into "perjuring" themself. Hope that help ✌

Y'know, my elementary school was named after John Brown despite the fact we never learned about him throughout my ENTIRE school career.

Ashby wasn't some celebrated commander, he participated in all of FOUR BATTLES during the Civil War, two of which were Confederate Defeats (including one where he potentially outnumbered the Union side SEVEN TO ONE), and of the two victories, the former the Confederates outnumbered the Union by 3 to 1, and in the latter, *he was killed in the battle, potentially by his own side*.
I live here and that's my old school, what's worse is, in the neighboring County of Rockingham there's a high school named Turner Ashby that got thousands of signatures on a petition back in 2020 to keep the name. All 3 schools were built in the late 50's and named as a response to the Brown v. Board of Education ruling.
