In case you want to listen to more Haken on your own, make sure to check out "Falling back to earth", but be aware it is a very emotional and existencial song. Listened to a lot of Haken and this is probably, not technically (even though it's great), their most beautiful journey, truly a rollercoaster of emotions.
I love Haken, one of my personal faves! Check out their live version of Visions, they often have storylines & characters running through their albums. Their album Visions is the story of "a young boy who sees his own death in his dreams and believes it's going to happen and spends the rest of his life trying to avoid it." The long closing track "Visions" is the end of the story but it makes it come full circle to the beginning. Beware its their longest song at 20+ minutes & spectacular!
I wasn't 'Owl' that recommended this - it was ME, hahaaa! Anyways, I'm super glad you loved it - and you should check out the rest of their stuff - they have callbacks to this song on Vector/Virus and their range of music (and those chewy harmonies and solos) come thick and fast in everything that they do.
@@SoulSingerDiscovers It's worth mentioning that while yes, the Queen reference is there, the puppets are actually supposed to be the band members. "Brian May" is actually Ross Jennings.
The puppets are pretty accurate (or they were at the time when it was released) representations of the actual band. Great track all round with a HUGE nod to both Queen and Gentle Giant in the harmonies (and with the latter) some of the jazzier ideas. Seen them a few times including as support to Devin. That was a fun night to say the least!
LOVED THAT VIDEO!!! I encourage you to listen to Haken: Falling Back to Earth. If i wanna introduce somebody to Haken and the epic voice of Ross, I always shoot for that song. Its SO diverse they even have some Jazz stuff in it its unbelievable. Thanks so much for your professional opinion on your reactions in general. Cheers from Egypt.
Yessss I fucking love this song. I prefer the album version, but this shortened single cut is fun too. This is very Gentle Giant - they loved these kind of contrapuntal vocal harmonies.
Best band of all time… this is the short version as I’m sure someone may have already pointed out. Haken is truly incredible. Whole discography is genius music making.
The acapella section is visualised as Queen Bohemian Rhapsody, but this piece as a whole has more Gentle Giant leanings than anything else in the first part.
@@SoulSingerDiscovers your welcome! I really enjoy your videos. And depending on the song I am challeneged to check out bands I would not normally listen to. Rock on 🤘
Excellent song, great band. The percussion and bass guitar parts were top notch! The guitars were super funky, and I loved the solos. Groovy! Clatu, Berata, Nictu! Keep up the great work My Fine Scottish Lady! ❤❤❤
@@SoulSingerDiscovers don't you go slagging off my dream woman ;-) Then it's kind of a no go recommending her or them since you already are familiar with them
Haken is always a good choice. I'd like to nominate "The Alphabet of Me" as a follow up, its from Hakens most recent album and features a different side of Haken you may be surprised by. Apart from that - Árstíðir with Ljóð í sand. Nothing metal or rock, just the most soulmelting and beautiful song I've heard in my life. :)
Ross Jennings' voice is better than a lot of people give him credit for. Here's something you might like, if you like vocal harmonies. Nick D'Virgilio (drummer from Spock's Beard), Neal Morse (vocalist, formerly of Spock's Beard), and Ross Jennings, all singing together. The album was called "Troika", and this song is called "Julia": ua-cam.com/video/Y31eVTnMIxI/v-deo.html
Seriously talented and silly (tongue in cheek, staying in character, overtly sexual, sexist and degrading yet hilarious with killer songs) = Steel Panther. Pick just about anything from their first three albums. Great songs that take the 80’s sexualized lyrics to the next level. So good live.
I think you watched the radio edit version of the video, there's a whole extra proggy section that you missed out on. You should definitely do more Haken, they're amazing and every album is distinct, every song on every album is distinct but all totally Haken. I recommend checking out Falling Back to Earth and The Architect, ooh also the 19 minute EPIC Crystallized.
Definitely more Haken! I sometimes wonder if they get pigeon holed by reactions to this song, as while it's a classic they've got ridiculous range, from synthy pop numbers like Alphabet of Me to shredders like Messiah Complex. The Architect is rightly a favourite, and it also features a certain Einar Solberg who has made a few appearances lately 😄 Also, the track Lovebite is a bang up to date example of their silliness and talent in harmony 😂

Yes. Also recommend Celestial Elixir and Nocturnal Conspiracy.

You mentioned Brian May. Another interesting thing is that the visual in the beginning is an homage to Bohemian Rhapsody. 😄
I figured as much! Those crazy Haken lads 😂

i love this song but haven’t heard it in a few years. reminds me of an old friend :) great reaction and song choice!
My patron did me proud it was a riotous affair 😊 thanks for watching my dude 💪

What a gig to see Haken AND Devin in one go! That’s the stuff dreams are made of 😊 thanks again for watching my dude 💜

The harmonies are so great l. It all just feels a bit wonky and spooky which I love 😊
So happy seeing them live on Friday
This song is a curse that haunted me for years, someone help me
The only cure is MORE HAKEN!
Damn! Got there before me with that one 😂
Best band of all time… this is the short version as I’m sure someone may have already pointed out. Haken is truly incredible. Whole discography is genius music making.
One of the best bands you will ever see live....
I have no doubt 😊
The acapella section is visualised as Queen Bohemian Rhapsody, but this piece as a whole has more Gentle Giant leanings than anything else in the first part.
seriously talented and silly = Primus
Endorse this statement
One of my fav songs on this album! Both this single edit and the original length version are so good! Fauna is a super good album!
It’s absolutely smashing! Thanks for watching my dude 😊💪

Thank you Scott! You wonderful human 💜💜💜
Check their "Falling back to Earth" - it's brilliant!
All acapella sections are Gentle Core (Gentle Giant)
Loved it, I generally love cabaret type music..... will have to suggest an old time favorite on Monday, Dresden Dolls
Oh my lord! I looove Dresden Dolls! Even if Amanda Palmer is a bit of a dud at times 😱🥰

Just stumbled across your channel thanks to this video. The best way I can describe Haken: overly-educated musical shitposters.
Aha. Yup I'm aware of this. It's good to see your viewers have a sense of humor.
That they do 😂
Haken is number uno in my musicologi ...🤘❤🤘
That is a solid place to put them. Thanks for watching my dude 😊💪
Opeth - Moon Above Sun Below
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaassssssssssss! Love me some HAKEN
They are glorious 😊💪
Song & lyrics: exists
Woman: haha puppets
I have a songwriting masters with distinction. Good songs are ten a penny. Good puppets not so much.

4:34 I always felt like Ross is deliberately imitating Kermit in this verse.
God I hope you’re right cos that makes it cooler 😂🐸
Another great prog band to get the Mel seal of approval!
They are so good 😊 thanks for watching my dude 💪

Haken is fun!
Next reaction Gentle Giant "On reflection"
There is little to no metal, this is progressive rock at its core.

Really on and off with Haken, but this song is fantastic.
I think there’s gonna be stuff I’m not totally up for but yeah this one was wonderful 😊
YES! Haken is love, Haken is life!
I am now inclined to agree 😂
