I ordered two of these based on the reviews. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxqmKabisEv81ul5v7OhvVxxOpt2CJruI- Received them on time and they look good. I really like the handle on these knives as they feel good in my hand. I'm giving them 4 stars on look and feel, but have not had the chance to put them to the test yet. I mostly fish for catfish and can hopefully try them out in the next few days. If they hold an edge throughout a limit of catfish, they'll be worth another star.Update...I used the 9" strong and the 9" fillet on a mess of catfish. I did put a sharpening on these before I started. I want a razor edge to fillet fish but they weren't quite that sharp. The people who gave these knives crappy reviews and said they were sending them back was because they weren't razor sharp. So what, do they not have a knife sharpener?? Good grief! I mean you have to sharpen any knife from time to time.I personally like them and am pleased with them. If you're too lazy to sharpen a knife then hire someone to clean your fish lol.I've never bought a knife in my life that would shave hair right out of the box. Don't be afraid to purchase the knives. They're pretty nice in my opinion.
I started questioning things when he said 90% of people filet crappie with an electric knife, then when he through out a 1/4 of the edible fish I realized I should find this info elsewhere. Use your head out here folks and stay safe on this great wide web.
They got meat way up to their eyes on the tops of their heads I like to get that too tbh lol😂🤝🏾I leave nothing and it’ll still be boneless ! I love crappie😩🔥🤝🏾
I waste nothing. He left some meat near the tail and I also use a regular filet knife and take the meat off those ribs he threw away. The riblets are the best part. You don’t fry them as long as the filets or they’ll over cook. I fry them first. I live on a dead end road next to Ray Roberts and saw Wally’s truck go past my home one day and turn around. Guess he was looking for a hidden boat launching place.
@@tysonprice109 doesn’t seem worth it but on big crappie and with a 25 fish limit, those ribs will make a decent meal. I’d rather eat them than the fillets.
@@adamUDavies same way he does it but after he flipped the fillet and then then started to cut the meat from the skin. I start cutting the meat closer to the tail. He left a small section there. I was raised not to waste fish or game. Those ribs he threw away have a thin slice of meat. I save them all in a pile and after I’m done filleting the sides from all the crappie I take a normal fillet knife (not electric) and start just behind the pin bones and shave that meat off the rib bones. They look like very thick potato chips when you fry them. I do that only on crappie over 12”. The ribs are ready just a few seconds after they float to the top of the oil. Cook them separate from your fillets so you don’t over cook them. Better eating than the fillets to me. You’ll think it’s not worth the trouble but you’ll get 50 of those riblets with a 25 fish limit and it’ll surprise you how much is actually there when you fry them all up. Takes a good sharp knife.
Most of these comments about "wasting" fish are only valid for a fish that you bought at a market and are disposing of in a landfill. Wally is filleting fish that he has caught and throwing the carcasses back into the lake from which he caught them. Circle of life my friends - eat what you want and put the rest back into the ecosystem where they will eventually become tomorrow's catch.
There's also something called want and waste. Which you can get prosecuted for if you don't take all the edible meat of any game you take from the wild. Yeah circle of life but don't be lazy. Because the hyenas aren't 😢
Yup, do what you want and not what is right. Every creature harvested should be used to it's reasonable usefulness. ALSO in my State throwing the "carcasses" back in the lake is illegal. Mr Crappie is not a true sportsman: a Sportsman does not waste resources that they have harvested.
That's how I like to clean my croppys too.. but I save the cheek meat also, it's about the size of a dime but if you clean 20 fish you'll have 40 fish nuggets when you save the cheek meat.
These other guys can take a hike….you did great Wally! After fishing all day I want my fish cleaned quick, I’m not going to sit their and try to get ever morsel of meat. Electric knife is the way to go! 👍🏻
Here’s the reason why people fillet with electric knife: cause they caught A LOT and saves time cleaning them. If you catch less than or about 12? It’s not bad but if you catch 30? Well that takes a lot of time
I sometimes eat hole but there are so many small bones. You’d never give a boney fish to a young child. I have enough problems as an experienced eater , eating by hand . You really don’t lose any meat to the naysayers.
I like filleting fish cuz it’s much more enjoyable to eat that way but I always cringe on how much meat is wasted as apposed to frying them whole n pickin it off the comb…
Just throw the whole fish away. Remember me from Louisiana at the classic when I wiped that smile off your face when I showed you the crappie I had caught. 😊😊😊
A lot of waste. Disconnect the fillet from the tail before skinning. You can use your thumbnail or, if you prefer, a fork to hold the starting edge in place. Also, don't just cut the ribs off - fillet out the ribs to preserve a good section of sidewall meat. Those two adjustments will take an extra few seconds and yield 20% more fillet. I prefer to scale and then fillet.
I have 1 of these and used it today for the first time and burned it up first time. Maybe I had to many fish for it idk but I don't recommend it at all
People saying he wasted fish. How ? Your only going to get down to the bone, with an electric or fixed blade knife. Ya'll eating the lips, eyes, and fins too?
I guess they have another definition of fillet/filet. The part he cuts would be considered a riblet, which is not part of the filet cut. (Granted, his cuts could be better or precise...but say if you catch 35 fish, it's about efficiency not maximum yield. Which is the example where filet cuts are best applied)
I’m with ya I got 25 crappie in my basket i ain’t dilly Dickin around for a few little chunks A 1000lb steer give you 600 lb of meat.People just like to pick on others.
So many comments about wasted meat. The title is how to filet QUICKLY”. He doesn’t say it’s the only way or the best way. He says it’s the quickest way.
Too much wasted meat for my liking. I'll stick to my "manual" fillet knife and carve that meat off the ribs...doesn't take me but a few seconds longer than the electric version
Still like old school. Love to scale them and then fillet them leaving the skin on.

cats are the same way unless you want to save the belly meat.
Over half the comments are pointing out how wasteful your method is....I agree.
This is a first that I saw anyone leave it attached to the tail, that is the exact way I do striped bass with electric or manual knife, very nice
I agree with James, he wasted too much of the fish
Crappie man: 90% of crappie are fileted with an electric knife
Me: who has been fishing for 25+ years and never owned an electric knife 🤨
Yeah I just picked up a $15 rapala fillet knife and it works just fine.
Exactly
@@ryandunnliveselectric knives are like 20 bucks and work great! Saves so much time
Thank you! It'd been so long I couldn't remember how

💯 I keep that middle part too. The crappies I’m catching here be over 2 pounds.

He left A WHOLE LOT of meat bro
Batter dipped or cornmeal breaded? What does everyone think?
Cornmeal

Wasting meat on the tail though
just wasting the whole fish! . . . for years !
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man how to fish and you feed him for life.
unless 80 % gets thrown away . .
Best tasting fish on earth IMO
He did a great job
I've never wasted so much before like that I pick the bones out

Need to do a giveaway fillet knife
DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYTHING THIS MAN SAYS. If he was a butcher he would be fired!
Just had crappie for the first time. Not sure if it was a polluted lake or what but they were horrible
Seems like alot of the meat is left on the fish to me

My dad would cut around the bones of the rib. Me I always cut from the tail up with electric knife
Interesting, cut from the tail up with an electric. What is the benefit over cutting from the head down toward the tail?
Emmmm hmmmm fire 🔥 up that grease
Crappie - mashed potatoes with spots 😂
I just watch this man take a filet, cut half of it off, and throw it into the water.
Your filets contain bones??
I like filleting fish cuz it’s much more enjoyable to eat that way but I always cringe on how much meat is wasted as apposed to frying them whole n pickin it off the comb…
There's something to be said for eating fish whole. Might be more work but it is delicious and as you note, very little wasted meat.
😮
I feel bad for wasting a whole fish😔😕
I won’t goon UA-cam to know how to fillet a fish anymore
If yall want bones go ahead😂😂😂

If you love the tail section why are you waisting some of it ???
Note to self: Never use electric knife.
Wasted a lot of meat
You should leave more meat on. Not enough waste.
I prefer to filet my crappie with a chainsaw.

I like to spend an extra 4 hours to save .5 oz of all the meat you wasted! Just kidding, cleaning 25-50 fish, I do em exactly like you.
This is the correct response.

Dont matter with this live scope all the fish will be gone !!!
Very wasteful
I was thinking the same and ran to the comments.
There’s always one or two lol
No all that's mainly left is bones....

It's really not...
You missed meat by the head.
How to filet a fish and throw away the filet.
Not much meet left 😅
You mean you fillet them little Croppy?
It's crappie man, not "croppy," wth is a croppy
😂😂😂
y’all better recycle all y’all’s cans and boxes the way y’all cry about a half bite of “wasted” meat
Not really unless you want to eat bones
Filleting with an electric knife creates too much waste.
Huge waste of meat wally
Way too much wasted.
Hellen Keller could do better 😂
What a waste! You can take a little more time and not waste as much fish
how to waste all of a fish . . .
Holy sh!t if I fillet my crappie like that I'll probably just buy it. What a waste of meat.

So much waste..you need a youtube video bro
