    Nice fish. Drag is way too tight. !!!! Especially for crappie fishing , Wouldn’t have broken off on that first fish if the drag wasn’t so tight. Nice striper.

    • @justrelaxandfish
      @justrelaxandfish  2 місяці тому +9

      When I'm fishing in a submerged tree I keep the drag tight to prevent the fish from wrapping around the tree limbs on the initial run. I've lost too many fish because of a loose drag allowing the fish to wrap around too many limbs to untangle it from. If a large fish bites while in a tree they usually always wrap around a tree limb and break off. Thanks for watching and commenting.

I fish quite often and always have the option to keep a couple if I'm fortunate enough to actually catch a fish.😁

    • @justrelaxandfish
      @justrelaxandfish  Місяць тому

      I use light line for crappie and sometimes something large will take the bait. I always use at least 20lb. test when fishing for stripers and try to get them in as soon as possible. A striper fights so hard that they stress themselves out in a prolonged fight. Where I'm fishing for crappie around cover the stripers usually wrap up around a limb and straighten the hook or break the line.

      Stripers taste pretty good in my opinion. Striper filets are a little thick and I like to butterfly them before cooking. I prefer crappie filets coated with corn meal an and fried golden brown and crispy.
      You're right about the striper fighting like a large catfish. The difference between them and a flathead catfish is stripers like to run towards open water and the flathead likes to dig deep and stay down.

      @@janvanruth3485 You may not be aware that I was fishing in the branches of a sunken tree. I was thumbing the reel to keep the fish from getting wrapped around more than one limb. I really wasn't expecting a striper to eat my crappie minnow. If I let the fish strip drag and get wrapped up in a bunch of limbs I would lose it anyway. If you watched the whole video you saw that I switched to a rod more suited to land a large fish in heavy cover.
