Barry is an incredible balance of psychological horror, comedy and philosophy. I’m shocked it’s not more popular. It’s a fantastic series that gets better every season.
Gosh, I love the subversion of the traditional male anti-hero role portrait in this show. Everyone is basically the complete opposite of what they are supposed to be, depending on the situation and it is hilarious and freaking tragic at the same time. Something I never have experienced in any other show.
As a former marine with some time in the sandbox, the scene where Barry going over his kills over seas is very close to true in it’s portrayal on how different two sides see it. Still throws my shrink for a loop occasionally.
I honestly wasn't surprised and I'm a civilian, I just thought soldiers convinced themselves the life they ended was as they put "just another goat fucker to kill and nothing more, hesitate and they will kill you" so they turned the act of killing into something to celebrate so they didn't have to deal with the thoughts of "I just killed someone" until after their home and have the time to actually think about what they did. My grandpa kinda helped with this, he fought in vietnam and when he would talk about it which was VERY rare, he said when he was there the lives he ended were nothing but an enemy to kill and he didn't really think about it. Not until he was safe and back home did he start to think about the things he did, then it all really hit him and it hit hard. He's no longer with us, unfortunately, but I'm glad to say that near the end he made peace with his past

In a weird way, the appreciation I have for this show feels extremely similar to the appreciation I have for that Korean movie “Parasite”; in that what makes it so good is that it is simply a quintessential example of classic drama… just in a modern setting. It’s like both Parasite and Barry went back to a high school English classroom and went down the vocabulary list of literary elements you’d find in good fiction; irony, suspense, tragic flaws, satire, tragedy, comedy, internal/external conflict, etc.; and just turned it into a checklist to make sure they didn’t miss anything while writing their stories. There’s no horror, no sci fi, no fantasy, nothing. Just pure, unadulterated drama. And that’s what I think makes both Parasite and Barry so incredibly remarkable; the simple fact that both are nothing more than earnest and sincere attempts at telling a good drama.
I should point out my favorite scene from this series. When Barry is engulfed in pure darkness once he kills the Chechnyan kid he trained to be the greatest among his friends and then when he kills him while consumed by pure rage. That scene touched me and showed that Barry can be an evil sob. At the end of that episode, Barry walks into the dark corridor and disappears into the darkness. Amazing scene.

I’ll check it out if I can. You’ve got taste.
Just saw the show and I’m really glad I did, the show is fantastic
When Jim was introduced in season three, I knew the character was going to get under my skin. His calm demeanor and way he studies people alone made me uncomfortable. Like he’d snap at any moment, but doesn’t. Can’t wait to see what happens with him in season four!
Alright, you've convinced me. I'll check this out after I finish Silicon Valley.
Sir, you are bold for deciding to talk about Barry while playing the Hotline Miami music. Absolutely brilliant
Hey loli, im subscribed and have the bell turned on but youtube wont notify me when you upload. What gives?
No clue. Susan is weird.
I'm pretty sure if a creator make sensitive content or what youtube considers sensitive content they won't notify you about new videos they make but thats what I think shit been happening to me a lot
Loli is in fact on UA-cam's naughty list
mixing comedy with intense violence is tough, but if its done right, it usually is good television...
Also, kind of reminds me of Full Metal Panic!, if you think about it... :-P
Season 4 ended beautifully.
Berkman coming in hot with another great review!
