Honestly, same. MaRo was asking if we'd like a commander draft product (to provide new avenues for reprints). The problem with it is nothing that is actually needed will make it bc the cards needed for draft won't be good in commander unless almost everything is a reprint of good/solid edh cards. Even then, we don't need massive removal reprints or Mana dorks. I'm afraid that WotC going to continue to print broken or useless shit bc they don't actually test cards to fit into formats, only to work in draft/precon environments.
Just like Splinter twin is ban worthy because infinite creatures on turn 4 is unacceptable but Goryos vengeance which lets you draw your entire deck on turn 2 is perfectly fine.
i also really want hogaak banned, but it isn't in a deck with dredge in it, they use stitcher's supplier and faithless looting to get the stuff they need into the graveyard
Shadow13X if they ban anything that’s not hogaak but still in the hogaak deck then the deck will just become dredge and the problem won’t really go away

Sets that followed were powered down and new approaches were taken. This seems to no longer be the case. It's sad how innovation has been thrown out the window for power creep (ie. putrefy -> abrupt decay -> assassin's trophy).
Great job man! you're just doing the news exactly as it should be told. I totally agree with everything you said best magic Channel ever! Way to tell the haters how it is haha

Just fyi hogaak at least all of the lists I've seen dont run a single dredge card cause ironically all of the dredge cards are way too slow for this deck.
Desolator is speaking truth! I will admit when I first subscribed to your channel, for about a year now, and most of what you said was prophecy. The current Meta is screwed. Thank goodness I retired from MTG. I started with Innistrad and ended my run with Elderich Moon. I dabbed a bit in M19 and Dominaria. But after that, it was just not fun. Control was becoming annoying as all hell, red blitz was just insane, and graveyard Hijinks were getting out of hand. I then went into MTG Arena and started to see the mess Wizards have brought with them. With Taferi and nexus of fate. I just left and did not want no part of this nonsense. The community is a lost cause now, let it die off, and eat itself from the inside out. At this point there is no saving it.
They also banned bridge from below. Which they thought would fix dredge decks because they didn't want to ban the new card that completely broke that archetype.
Banning cards in Standard wouldn't even be enough at this point. It's more than broken mechanics that's making the game frustrating when it should be fun. That dumb cat? All it's good for is taunting. People run broken AF decks and then just sit there petting kitty like some autistic Dr. Claw. Agent of Treachery loop on turn 4. 'Nuff said.
dotGATSBY [MONSTAR Productions] sure, but if the format becomes “play this deck, or play something that counters this deck or lose,” games get boring pretty fast. Also, Lelyene of the Void is currently the most played card in Modern, and Hogaak is still dominating Modern. If the most reliable graveyard hate card can’t stop Hogaak, then what can?
Des that's not true there a couple of channels that I hate and I click not interested don't recommend but good old youtube keeps sending them to my recommendation list.
My main issue is that they didn't include enough counters to him, he would have been fine if they made other decks just as strong to avoid this issue. As for standard, that should just be locked to 4 sets and as one is released one goes out
At this point, we all need to start running non-toxic decks for each other's sake so we can do Wizard's job of keeping its player base actually entertained.
As a yugioh player, I'll tell you they technically didn't fix the winning turn 2 thing. Guardragons and pendulums set up multiple outright negates to where if they go first, you have to side in something game 2. There are a few decks that win through attrition and one two that win over time through regaining their resources. Hell, it took them almost a year to fix the FTK (you go first, your opponent doesn't get to draw or anything they just lose) after their social media was getting blasted months on end. Honestly, the death knell for any card game that doesn't want to ruin their formats is to start using your graveyard as a resource. Because then it stops being a game of resource management and more of how many times can I get things for free just because I played a bunch of cards that are supposed to have a downside of losing cards so now you have to break my board.
On every Des video, I always let the preview play before I click on it because the closed caption they use always screws up his name in new and interesting ways! 🤣

(The guy who's contract is running out made hogaak and scale up to make his pet decks better) New format: Legacy 2.0 (except all reserve list cards are banned)
Hogaak in its current form is not a dredge deck. 0 of the cards in the popular list have the dredge mechanic. It’s based off fast creatures and vengevines. Combined with Hogaak to make insane turn 2 plays. Granted there is a dredge version and it did post the highest win rate of all the Hogaak decks the deck in question isn’t that dredge version as it only holds .5% of the Meta. They are speaking specifically about the Hogaak Vine deck.
Is the ban target going to be Stitcher's Supplier, Faithless, or Hogaak? I think it'll be Faithless because everyone was (wrongly, imo) complaining about phoenix decks before they got dwarfed by Hogaak and Faithless getting the boot would hurt both of the decks.
@@billlong4586 Hitting looting severely nerfs two of the top decks right now, wrecking lower tier decks isn't really something to consider when it comes to banhammering stuff.
I think both the Eldrazi and Hogaak are cases where it was a cool idea but egregiously overpowered when implemented. The idea with the Eldrazi was, in fact, to make impressively big and game ending cards that were hard to cast. That would have probably been fine if anyone was actually hard casting them. Wizards toed the line with the Eldrazi, and they knew it: how powerful can we make these cards? Hogaak was worse, because any Magic player even passingly familiar with the Modern format could have told you it was a terrible idea. Graveyard strategies exist. To blatantly print an 8/8 that is free if you have two creatures and a full graveyard... I don't know what was going through their head. It's hard to believe it was an oversight. It's not even any sort of tricky combo. It pretty much screams "cast me on turn 2!" This was in Modern Horizons, not some Standard set where they could have forgotten about Modern. It makes me feel like they literally didn't playtest this card at all, ever. For shame, Wizards. For shame.
Wizards needs a community manager. Someone to act as a buffer between people like Aaron Forsythe and the community. Marc kinda does that a little - but they need a dedicated person. And it needs to be someone with an even temper - not an easily triggered sjw.
In yugioh the turn 2 combo's ended up at a 1 turn combo before ANYTHING got emergency banned. And funny thing is, when the banlist recently rolled around they banned and limited cards from tier-2 decks and strategies but refuse to hit tier 1 decks in a way that actually impacts them. So its not just wizards thats fucking up. Oh, and another funny thing is aparently konami can't print cards based on an archetype because of some really old cards that would be BEYOND broken if they ever print cards that can work with it. Imagine dredge, but for 5 fucking cards that can be played turn 1. They refuse to just ban card's before they become a problem.
They make too many cards per year imo. It's unsustainable, shit like this will keep popping up because they won't just admit MTG should be small and downsize
While it’s kind of unfair to compare this to Stone forge mystic and to say hogaak is a reason/proof that mystic should be unbanned, but tbh I kind of agree at this point, T2 8/8 Trample versus T3 Batterskull, seems... ill considered
Long story short if WOTC had people like Des working for them instead a bunch of trans, gay, etc people just for ‘equal rights’ then the power creep wouldn’t be so crazy.
understanding a problem and taking care of it tends to be Wizards weak point. I would prefer a problem to get caught in playtesting but that's even more of a stretch. Baby Teferi was a mistake through value, Hogaak was a problem since you are gonna most likely turn 2-3 the f**ker out. (Edit messed and said 3-4 at first by mistake)
being a standard player trying to inch into modern I've had to trash the idea of building phoenix or jund, which are decks that I prefer, I had to think what is good so I decided on tron because the hoegaak match isnt complete aids and i can...maybe...win
I haven't played Magic since my playgroup disbanded when everyone went to college. The lack of a balanced standard meta has turned me away from the game on arena, and I dont have the money to build any sort of remotely interesting paper deck. Magic is a great game; it makes me really sad to be able to find any fun from it. I wish wizards could balance their game
I think hogaak was an entirely fair and balanced card.
For draft.
I am beginning to think that all wizards ever tests for is sealed.
Hey, it is actually true, in wizard they draft only, it was said by a member or the staff, they dont play format other than standart and draft
You'd think that, but then they print Saheeli Rai & Felidar Guardian. They don't know how to test more than 2 colors at once.
Honestly, same. MaRo was asking if we'd like a commander draft product (to provide new avenues for reprints).
HOOOGAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKK! That is all.
They make too many cards per year imo. It's unsustainable, shit like this will keep popping up because they won't just admit MTG should be small and downsize
If wizards can't acknowledge that singles have value... How can they charge so much for sets like modern horizons?
While it’s kind of unfair to compare this to
Stone forge mystic and to say hogaak is a reason/proof that mystic should be unbanned, but tbh I kind of agree at this point, T2 8/8 Trample versus T3 Batterskull, seems... ill considered
This card has been banned...
Former yugioh player here, it's so bad that they are printing 3 of the most insane cards ever. So... ya. You called it.
Des is my spirit animal
Hogaak is a fucking disappointment to the game. 16 power on turn two CONSISTENTLY. Its ridiculous
And once more I'm happy I'm playing limited formats. It's not the best either but it avoid snowballing BS like this.
Me Hogaak.
Me cheat self out.
Me eat modern for breakfast.
