I'm going to wait for the Retroid Pocket 4. I have a Steam Deck which does everything I want to right now, but for the form factor and that screen I'd get one just for my emulation and PC streaming. However, I'd want it to be able to handle all GC and PS2 games, and they'll also need to add pressure sensitive analogue triggers for L2 and R2.

As a fellow Canadian, I can sympathize with needing gloves. Awesome video! I’d love a guide for newbies on setting the 3+ up from scratch. I just ordered one but have little experience with game emulation. It’s just got me so curious that I want to learn more and experiment with it.
Great video! My RP3+ came in the mail this week and I've been loving it. YT videos don't do the screen justice, it is beautiful! Quick question, how did you change your icon pack? I was looking everywhere to find the setting!
These are starting to pop up on Ebay for pretty cheap. Thank you Retroid Pocket 4! Heroes 2 on a handheld?! I never even considered DOS emulation. You sir, are a gentleman. And i thank you.
Great video, just some Audio feedback, I think you’d benefit from using a pop shield or adding some dampening on your high frequencies, using AirPods and there are some harsh frequencies in your voice audio! Keep making these, love catching up on them on my commute!
When I think of retro gaming, my mind wanders back to the Godfather of gaming, Zork, I still recall the many hours I spent, hunched over my friend's Apple II, trying to figure out how to open the book (use the rusty knife). Good times.
I’m a dweeb/nerd and this is entertainment and you have another subscriber. Lol I was confused at first but you got my hooked, keep it up. I just bought a RP3+ and love the review.
First time viewer, and first time commenter here. A video of popular Gamecube/PS2 that run well on the RP3+ would be awesome. 50% of games run? Cool, which 50%?
Hi TechDweeb. I recently discovered your channel and like it a lot! I've been a gamer since i had my first Atatri 2600 Jr. Now i'm grown up, married and a dad. And i still love it. The RP3+ is really great. Got mine a few day ago. Sadly i'll be done setting it up soon. Somehow that#s the greatest joy to me. But playing it will be fun too. Oh, i also got an orange one! #GOTEAMORANGE 🧡
Honestly surprised more people aren’t talking about the 505. At launch it was priced the same as the RP3+, but now it’s on sale for about $45 bucks less and it’s even cheaper than the standard RP3. $115 for a T618 device with the vita OLED screen seems like a great deal, but curious on your thoughts
One thing I've learned is that no matter what you choose it'll be the wrong answer. If you buy, a new thing will almost immediately be announced, if you wait you'll wish you bought. I say go for it!
Haha, I remember asking if I should wait for the retroid 3+. Glad I waited. I was stuck on wanting a handheld that can run gamecube games because of eternal darkness. On that note... how does Eternal Darkness run? lol
I'm strictly a PC Gamer - all my life the only time I had a console it was an Atari 2600. But you've ALMOST convinced me to get one of these ... toys. And it's orange. That's gotta count for something.
So after having both for a little while, got my plus for Christmas. I find myself using both pretty consistently, I’m replaying wind waker on the plus. The plus actually gets warm sometimes, the battery drain is different too obviously. Later in the night when I’m done with WW and I want to play something different I put the plus on the charger pop my micro sd out, and have been playing arcade mode tobal 2 for the ps1 on my RP3 and it’s magnificent. The regular 3 it’s almost like it’s so optimized for what it does it never gets warm. I thought I was gonna gift it to friend and just use the plus solely, but now I no longer think that anymore.
Tbh just buy this thing if you're curious. It's worth the purchase. honestly I'm thinking of buying a regular pocket 3 just for gba, snes, n64 and dreamcast.
Awesome video and I totally agree with your position on the pitchfork mob. Timing sucked, but the device is incredible. I'm loving it! Even rediscovered how much I love Soul Calibur II and Mercenaries, both running decently! I'll definitely be looking forward to your setup/tinkering guide. I've watched a couple others, but I am loyal and will totally be biased to your methodology. I also agree with others, and would love a Moonlight guide. I have SteamLink, but that doesn't work for all my Epic and GOG library, even by adding the games to Steam. Also probably works better!
Excellent video! Please could you make a setup video, to show how to setup each of the emulators on this device. Would be very much appreciated. Many thanks
I have the Retroid Pocket 3+ and the Logitech G Cloud. I really prefer the G Cloud. Better feel in the hand and that larger screen really makes a difference. I can't hold the Retroid longer than 20 minutes since it's just an awkward device to hold
Yeah that happens no matter when you buy it though. If you wait a few years then the thing you'll buy will be replaced a year or two after that. I say if you need one, don't wait! If you don't need one, then wait!
Your reasons for not having a Steam Deck are the same as mine. I have too many PCs. (Two desktops, and an aging laptop that performs about the same as the Deck anyways) I'll probably wait until the Retroid Pocket line can run Citra better. Plus. I am doing ok with the Retroid Pocket 2+ right now.
I was playing with my RP2+ when I was doing some comparative testing, and I'd almost forgotten how much I love the form factor on that one. The RP3 feels way more generic than the unique much more retro feeling RP2.
I'm gonna make a video about that! The short answer is a phone will be way more powerful but you'll also spend more and it won't be a dedicated gaming device that has built-in controls. There are ups and downs to both approaches.
Been using the Poco F2 Pro with the Razor Kishi controller for a little bit but just found it clunky and needs a lot of setup. Found it too big overall, heavy and not that portable (or convenient if carrying phone and controller separately). Literally just got the RP3+ yesterday, it's a great step up from the Pocket go, which was my go to for taking everywhere with me.
Good morning TechDweeb! Recently I discovered your channel and loving your content and the care you put into making your videos unique! I wanted to ask you for Reccomendations on a retro handheld to play the usual but specially dos games like Blood, Doom, Theme Hospital and stuff!! Do you know a good retro handheld that could do those well? Is the Retroid Pocket 3+ a good pick for that? I saw your video about the Miyoo mini playing dosbox, and it felt like the video was answering all these questions, but I'm worried the screen could be too small for text to be able to read, plus no joysticks... I don't know, this will be my first retro handheld and I want to pick the right one and there's so much to pick! Thanks for your videos and your content, have a nice weekend!
Yeah I think the RP3 is a good pick (you'd be fine with the 2gb non-plus if you're not looking for higher end emulation like psp or gamecube or ps2). Stay tuned for my DOS games on the RP3+ video!
I came back to this video today, after the release of the Retroid Pocket Flip and the Pocket 2S, and I am still convinced that the Retroid Pocket 3+ is the exact device I want for emulating the specific N64, PSP, and DreamCast games I want to play on a handheld. Still amusing about the Pocket 4 gag, knowing a Pocket 4 will never exist due to what a taboo the number 4 is with Chinese companies, haha
This video, retro game corps and eta prime convinced me to finally get one. It's a jack of all trades device. I can play many native android games I'm playing, I can emulate many systems and I can use it as a better alternative than the ps portal. You can use a better remote play app in PSplay. This added with the saturation mod provided by russ made the experience sooooo good. I can finally play my backlogs like dragon quest 11. The only thing that kinda bothers me is the battery. It kinda drains faster than I expected.
I was ready to buy it on launch day, ready at 7am EST, then reality stuck when I added to cart with shipping that it's like $240cad which is quite a lot for me. Backed out. Still kind of regretting. Maybe RP4!
With tax and shipping, the 3+ ends up at $45 more than the 3. I decided to replace my kids Fire kids tablets with the 3 so I can get them away from crappy mobile games, and load it with video content that I choose for trips. That price was a big factor for me.
I'm surprised that there's people who didn't see the RP3+ coming since they did the RP2+ already. Personally I'm looking forward to the Anbernic RG353P when on sale it's quite a bit cheaper than the RP3+ and it has all the features I'm looking for. I hope to get a laptop next year which I'll use to play PS2 gamecube and other newer emulators on. Also, I love your humor and style of vids.
The RP2+ wasn't obviously already produced beforehand, that's the difference. I can't fault Retroid too much because the RP3 was held back for a whole year and they certainly weren't going to not sell them... but I think "new hardware doesn't invalidate old hardware" is missing the point in this case.
@@colbyboucher6391 hum... I do consed to your point, as I do recall some "leaks" about more powerful models being produced and other oddities going on at the time. Yeah. While I don't pretend to know what it's like from the production side of things; it does feel like the research and development side of things was a bit too fast for their own good. Off Topic rant: Imagine if Intel already had say 15th gen CPU chips being produced, when the public are only at gen 13. They'll want to push out their older models even though we haven't even seen 14th gen yet. Granted Intel functions on such a bigger scale, and I wouldn't be surprised if having a small backlog of next gen chips is healthy for them.
@@TechDweeb This is awesome! I have an original Dreamcast and I love playing it. I've been looking for a good handheld to take my Dreamcast on the go. This is a big plus for this device. Now if I can decide between this RP3+ or the RG505.... ugh. Can the RG505 play Dreamcast as well as the RP3+?
Interesting very informative 👍 now what I want to know is either with the HDMI cable can you stream the emulator games on twitch using a game capture card with obs operating system?
The only problem is the price of getting one. $150 is good. But add in slow two-month shipping. If you actually want it in weeks instead of months, you need to pay a LOT more for shipping, so this needs to be factored into the cost. Still, I ordered one, and even paid more for the "sometime this century" shipping option. This is going to be my first REAL retro gaming system (previous powerhouse was a PowKiddy V90), and first Android emulator, so I am looking forward to your guides.
i paid $160 and it came in 2 weeks ago. so far its the best handeld ive owned. I don't even use my miyoo mini anymore. only downside is setting up all those emulators, games, and launchers takes a while.

Just a question it may sound mean but I'm genuinely curious. Hopefully you don't take it the wrong way but is that your real voice? or are you just doing that like a persona reason?
I don't mind at all. It's a bit of me, and a bit of an act. I believe have a condition called VPI (Velopharyngeal insufficiency) which causes my voice to be more nasally than most people's. It was so prevalent when I was a kid that my nickname was The Dweeb when I was in gradeschool. I found out I could control the nasally-ness of my voice when I concentrate on the way I pronounce certain sounds, being careful to open the back of my throat, and I basically trained myself to talk 'normal' as I became a teenager, and now my 'normal' voice has barely a hint of The Dweeb, I can talk like a normal guy all day, but The Dweeb has sort of become my alter ego and I can slip into that voice at will. And then for these videos I embellish it by acting extra dorky. 🤓
Hahahha I don’t know why, but the part when you crack the root beer and the can key breaks off, and you just drop it into the soda really hit my funny bone very well!
I said this once about the RP3 so I'm sure it applies here too: The RP3+ is pretty cool... buuut let's wait a month or two before buying it... just in case... again.
since it runs android apps i am curious whether it can run kali nethunter and some other security related apps while having support for the hardware like the wifi chipset and bluetooth (if the device has bluetooth). there’s not much when it comes to an affordable portable, toy-like handheld gaming device which can double as a pentesting tool. if it does, that would be amazing to set it up with a keyboard and mouse. an appeal is that it is not a phone nor a traditional computer and would be compelling if it could do more than just retro gaming. otherwise, i’m pretty happy with the miyoo mini v2 as it is for now and the flipper zero. now, if there was a way to combine the flipper with a nethunter phone into a retroid pocket style gaming device would be remarkable.
it's a magnificent console, beautifully designed and there is no doubt about that. But what no youtuber says is that retroid has a bad management of its products. I mean that, for example, on their site they don't sell all the spare parts of rp3/rp3+ and they are removing the spare parts of the rp2+ as well. I paid 200 euros, 200 dollars more or less, for the rp2+ on amazon and I don't have the possibility to buy the conductive membranes for example that are removed from the site, nor the pcb which has been removed as well. Obviously they are doing that to push customers towards rp3+. This is unacceptable and unprofessional behaviour. Frankly, I don't think I will buy anything from their site again!i spent a lot of my money ,i trusted them ,I supported them by buying their consoles and does the company do that to its customers?no way at all! Anyway ,i love your videos and i'll keep supporting your work my friend !like to your videos ever !
This thing is awesome, I was disappointed when i got it and soon after the rp4 was announced but i said well imma stick with it since the rp2+ was awesome for n64 and Dreamcast. So far I love this device ive already beat god of war for ps2 using nethersx2, re4 on dolphin, plays a couple wii games pretty well (so far new super mario bros, brawl, and dbzt3) and im playing through twilight princess now. Some games and emulators require messing with the settings a little. I knew basically nothing about emulators but a few youtube videos and just testing different settings does wonders. Ill be sticking with this device until emulation gets more advanced and we can start getting some old school xbox games

I found your videos a little ago and you do a really good job you deserve more subs
Appreciate you saying so 🤓
TechDweeb! You're awesome man! Thanks for all the good content..I ordered the clear purple rp3+ and I can't wait to get my hands on it 😬..until then your videos will suffice!
Aw thanks buddy! I was SO close to choosing the purple. I really do love the look of that one.
@@TechDweeb Yea that clear purple is so nostalgiiic..I just also got the anbernic RG35XX in that color 🟣🟣🟣 BTW I fully intend on taking my powww kiddy V90 to the great outdoors next time I go camping hahaa
Glad I found a fellow Canadian, most likely watch your videos from now on! Got to love the mild weather we are having in Toronto rate now tho.
Yeah this weather is almost toasty. I can make it to the mailbox and back in my slippers and sweater!
I ordered this based on retro gaming corps' review, then I kinda regretted that after the retro dodo review. Now I'm just lmao thru this entire intro.. you arr great! Thank you for the laughs 😂
As a fellow Canadian, I can sympathize with needing gloves.
Awesome video! I’d love a guide for newbies on setting the 3+ up from scratch. I just ordered one but have little experience with game emulation. It’s just got me so curious that I want to learn more and experiment with it.
For some reason my hands are always FREEZING. Like, my whole body will be totally warm and content but my hands are like popsicles.
@@TechDweeb I hear that. My space heater’s become my new best friend.
I also recently discovered your channel and i love your Review of the rp3+. 😀 😀 😀
Welcome!
Big thanks to you and you're psp rp3 guide, 2x resolution is the sweet spot
Great mic on your vids, game sounds come out crisp!
a shallow review presented magnificiently... subbed and liked
Wow, that flashback transition tho. The budget is growing by leaps and bounds!
Thanks for noticing. It took a team of talented editors a week to do and cost $10k, but it was so worth it.
Great video! My RP3+ came in the mail this week and I've been loving it. YT videos don't do the screen justice, it is beautiful!
Quick question, how did you change your icon pack? I was looking everywhere to find the setting!
Oh wait, you answered that with Nova Launcher, duh... Great video TD!
Desaturate & Saturate icon packs are awesome, I always use either of those two packs.
These are starting to pop up on Ebay for pretty cheap. Thank you Retroid Pocket 4!
Heroes 2 on a handheld?! I never even considered DOS emulation. You sir, are a gentleman. And i thank you.
So Much Efforts 🔥
Editing style unique. Looks great
lol ur sudden escalations with all the new retroids at the beginning kinda killed me
Great video, just some Audio feedback, I think you’d benefit from using a pop shield or adding some dampening on your high frequencies, using AirPods and there are some harsh frequencies in your voice audio!
Keep making these, love catching up on them on my commute!
Thanks for the tips! I will look into the frequency stuff 👍
Awesome video!!! Loved the outro.
Sounds like you'll fit in here juuuuuuust fine 🤓
Welcome!
🍊✊
Great vid. I need a 3+ asap. Don't fully understand how all works yet but I assume videos for set up all here somewhere..I'm going in!
The setup process is very user friendly. Check out my RP3 non+ video for how I set it up.
Wow that's awesome! Where can you get the 505 for $115? I agree, that's a crazy deal. Maybe I can see i the company will send me on 🤔
Subbed, cant wait to get my RP3+
You've got lots of fun on the way!
@@TechDweeb My last device was a 351p from Anbernic so I'm excited about PSP emulation.
Amazing review man! Do you think i should go for it or wait for a new device maybe by end of the year for some little extra juice?
One thing I've learned is that no matter what you choose it'll be the wrong answer. If you buy, a new thing will almost immediately be announced, if you wait you'll wish you bought. I say go for it!
Mr. Techdweeb, I love your videos and bought myself a pocket 3+. Thanks for the awesome content buddy.
Nice! Glad I could help you out 👍
ordered one right after watching this video. You should have ask them for affiliation links! :D
Good point 🤔
thank you, you helped me understand the dolphin emulator so much. i got so many games to work.
Glad I could help!
Haha, I remember asking if I should wait for the retroid 3+. Glad I waited. I was stuck on wanting a handheld that can run gamecube games because of eternal darkness. On that note... how does Eternal Darkness run? lol
I would love to see a video of how to get RPG maker games running on the RP3+ and see what their performance is like...
Good idea 👍
I'm strictly a PC Gamer - all my life the only time I had a console it was an Atari 2600. But you've ALMOST convinced me to get one of these ... toys. And it's orange. That's gotta count for something.
I've seen the way you collect PC parts. It's for the best that you don't get into retro gaming because you'd need a warehouse.
Great content...looking to pick up one of these to go along with my Retroid Pocket 2.
I have the Retroid Pocket 2+ and i love it, I'm sticking with it till they put the speakers and start and select back on the front.
I'm SO with ya on the speakers. Speakers should face the user of the device, seems pretty obvious to me 😒
Speakers don't bother me cause I only do audio with earphones. But that start select placement sucks.
That's a really good point. I've noticed the same thing.
As usual, loving this stuff!!
(Two desktops, and an aging laptop that performs about the same as the Deck anyways)
I'll probably wait until the Retroid Pocket line can run Citra better.
Plus. I am doing ok with the Retroid Pocket 2+ right now.
I was playing with my RP2+ when I was doing some comparative testing, and I'd almost forgotten how much I love the form factor on that one. The RP3 feels way more generic than the unique much more retro feeling RP2.
what would be the difference of buying a high end gaming android phone and attaching a controller vs this? what would be more practical?
I'm gonna make a video about that! The short answer is a phone will be way more powerful but you'll also spend more and it won't be a dedicated gaming device that has built-in controls. There are ups and downs to both approaches.
@@TechDweeb Alright. Thanks! Looking forward to it!
@@cowtc Thanks for the this!
I popped in for some handheld reviews, and behold! there is hidden the best beer ad ever made.
@@TechDweeb I will, can't wait for it!"! thanks for your reply! :)
Bad number is scary 😱
This video, retro game corps and eta prime convinced me to finally get one.
It's a jack of all trades device. I can play many native android games I'm playing, I can emulate many systems and I can use it as a better alternative than the ps portal. You can use a better remote play app in PSplay. This added with the saturation mod provided by russ made the experience sooooo good.
I can finally play my backlogs like dragon quest 11. The only thing that kinda bothers me is the battery. It kinda drains faster than I expected.
The screen is a big factor in the battery drain. Keep it as dim as is comfortable and you'll get some extra juice out of it.
First time seeing this channel.
Great work man..
I was ready to buy it on launch day, ready at 7am EST, then reality stuck when I added to cart with shipping that it's like $240cad which is quite a lot for me. Backed out. Still kind of regretting. Maybe RP4!
Yeah I'm in Canada too, and once you see the price + shipping + conversion it's always a disappointment.
Thank you brother. Much love x
Can’t believe you hearted me. I feel shell shocked!!!
Believe it!
With tax and shipping, the 3+ ends up at $45 more than the 3. I decided to replace my kids Fire kids tablets with the 3 so I can get them away from crappy mobile games, and load it with video content that I choose for trips. That price was a big factor for me.
The 3 is still a solid device. No reason to go for the 3+ if you're not planning on playing much gamecube or ps2 or whatever.
Off Topic rant:
Imagine if Intel already had say 15th gen CPU chips being produced, when the public are only at gen 13. They'll want to push out their older models even though we haven't even seen 14th gen yet.
Granted Intel functions on such a bigger scale, and I wouldn't be surprised if having a small backlog of next gen chips is healthy for them.
I'd like to see if this device can run Dreamcast games. If possible. Thanks
Definitely. Every dreamcast game should work at 100% speed.
You definitely can!
Great video,
quick question: what version of demon front you play on rp3+?
V105 on FBA, I believe.
This is going to be my first REAL retro gaming system (previous powerhouse was a PowKiddy V90), and first Android emulator, so I am looking forward to your guides.
in my country it's 177 usd including shipping. The only shippping option is dhl.
i paid $160 and it came in 2 weeks ago. so far its the best handeld ive owned. I don't even use my miyoo mini anymore. only downside is setting up all those emulators, games, and launchers takes a while.
Just came across your channel. Awesome stuff.
Maybe I missed it, but do the games all come installed on the device, or do people have to download all the ROMs? Thx.
On this device you have to add your own games
underrated channel, deseves more subs.
Awesome video... Where can I get this to buy????

Oh boy the voice 😅 wonderful, good job player
I actually have a system for all my retro handheld devices on what I use them for.
Miyo Mini: GBA, SNES, NES, some playstation and other 16/32 bit retro consoles
Ambernic RG280v: Gameboy (my Doctor Mario player petty much), NES, PC System, Genesis, other really low end stuff
Retroid Pocket 2+: SNES, GBA and a development unit for android games/apps production
Retroid Pocket 3: SNES, GBA, all PS1, N64, Saturn, Genesis, Sega 32x + cd
Retroid Pocket 3+: Main PSP handheld (when not the actual PSP), Dreamcast, High-end Android games
Ayn Odin Pro: Hard to emulate PS2 and Gamecube, High end Android stuff Some PSP
Nintendo Switch Lite + OG: Dedicated Switch games and my Minecraft goto
Nintendo 3DS + DS + GBA (with custom shell and backlit screen) + Gameboy Color + PSVita: dedicated games meant for these consoles plus some basic emulation and flashcart usage
Tiny little Gateway laptop: DOS, Morrowind, Oblivion, and potable development device for android and PC games or/and apps
I love that. You've got a fun family of tech toys there!
What launcher are you using for your RP3? I really like the look of that home screen
Nova Launcher with the Desaturate icon pack
@@TechDweeb Thanks man
Hahahha I don’t know why, but the part when you crack the root beer and the can key breaks off, and you just drop it into the soda really hit my funny bone very well!
Glad someone finally pointed that out. I was particularly proud of that one 😁
Hello and congratulations for the channel, how can I get orange moving squares in the home page?
That's a live wallpaper built-in to the RP3+
Thank you!
I said this once about the RP3 so I'm sure it applies here too: The RP3+ is pretty cool... buuut let's wait a month or two before buying it... just in case... again.
"2 months later..." oh look, Retroid Flip.
Great video as always. How is the RP3+ with XBOX Game Pass?
since it runs android apps i am curious whether it can run kali nethunter and some other security related apps while having support for the hardware like the wifi chipset and bluetooth (if the device has bluetooth). there’s not much when it comes to an affordable portable, toy-like handheld gaming device which can double as a pentesting tool. if it does, that would be amazing to set it up with a keyboard and mouse. an appeal is that it is not a phone nor a traditional computer and would be compelling if it could do more than just retro gaming.
otherwise, i’m pretty happy with the miyoo mini v2 as it is for now and the flipper zero. now, if there was a way to combine the flipper with a nethunter phone into a retroid pocket style gaming device would be remarkable.
I've never heard of the flipper zero before, but I just looked it up, and fell instantly in love with it. Because it's orange.
it's a magnificent console, beautifully designed and there is no doubt about that.
So the link you provided to purchase this unit, is that the manufacturers website or is that like to your own personal store??
That's the manufacturer's website
W..was that a real ad sponsor?
