The Retroid Pocket 2+ seems like the best fit for my needs. I like that's it's smaller. I'd want a very portable machine capable of NES - DreamCast games.
Without an improved chip, i dont see much of a point getting the 3. 90% of the things you will play on it are not helped with a wide-screen. It just eats more battery
For the Dolphin stuff, you have to manually set the bundle (slightly different than the pre-set one that you can auto-download). I had to do it on the RP2+. It is disappointing to hear it doesn't play things much better than the RP2+ though. The chip upgrade had me hopeful.
yea, i got hopes for the next product, maybe a RP3+? If It can run ps2 games being under 150 i think It will destroy competition, seeing that the cheapest one to "run" ps2 rn is the x18s at 170
It does look better than the older ones. I have the Anbernic RG351MP which brought me a lot of joy until I got the Steam Deck. But having one of these is fun to throw in the backpack and play on the go.
I think you should throw the SteamDeck in your backpack instead. Get your RG351p, RGB10 Max1, RP2+, RP3 or PS Vita Slim, instead to carry in your pocket "on the go".
I've been thinking about getting this, but really love my Miyoo Mini. Still in my opinion the best value for money out there. That said, I'm firmly in the casual gamer camp, so the amount of community support for the Miyoo Mini is key for me.
Im thinking of jumping in a miyoo mini, they are as little over 40€ on axpress, pretty sure is the v1. Do you find the screen too little for reading text? what about playing for more than 1 hour does it strain your hand?
Fast charge so you can play and charge without dying, bigger better screen, android 11 out of box, two good joysticks with l/r3 buttons and a boost of memory seem worth it, my retroid has been an absolute unit.
Make sure to check out Taki Udon’s video about Retroid and their very questionable QA and part swapping practices. The Pocket 2+ had wildly different screens depending on when you bought for instance.
Came down here to comment exactly this. People should definitely check out Taki's video. Also one of the best channels to follow if you're even remotely interested in portable emulation. Dude makes excellent videos, and tells it like it is.
This might be the one that gets me to buy a larger portable emulator. I have the Retroid Pocket Go, which I love, but it's basically just a GBA emulator for me and I think I want something a little beefier. The Switch Lite-esque form factor is really selling me
with these things getting better and better pretty much every month, im kinda gonna wait till portable emulators master dolphin completely. Playing melee and like sonic riders dx on a little pocketable switch would be sicc, and im not too personally interested in anything n64 and earlier, I can just play those on my pc just fine.
I feel this post. I love the older systems but PS2 + Dolphin opens up so many options. 2nd generation steam deck and similar devices will likely handle PS3 nicely as well.
For a Hundred ish… pretty decent entry level handheld. But a homebrew PSP or Vita gives you all the games on those consoles plus emulates all the classic Nintendo games pre N64. GameBoy Advance games are especially beautiful on the larger illuminated displays. Always keep an eye out for a used PSP or Vita.
You guys have a classy show, good work! I just got back into playing the Retroid 2+, and in the process learned that two more models had been produced...wth now I have to get the 3+...
Gonna be a while at this price range. But if you want to blow the smallest amount of money on the widest range of playable systems, go for a Miyoo Mini. I love mine more than my Retroid Pocket 2+. The RP2+ was almost unusable for me until I found a different front-end launcher (Daijisho) and broke in the rubber buttons a bit. Otherwise, I was dealing with constant crashes and a set of buttons that wore my hands out because it required a pound of pressure from my thumb to do a running jump in any game I was playing. The Miyoo barely required any config and let me pick-up-and-play far, far easier than the RP2+ ever has let me.
Honestly loved these kind of videos before I got a steam deck. Now I have one and I honestly couldn’t ask for anything else. It’s been eating up money and storage but not on new devices. Best of luck to everyone waiting and know that it is indeed worth the wait.
*_The Steam Deck has completely changed the way I game now. I’ve barely touched my top-spec PC in six months. I’m shocked how well MMO’s like FFXIV and Guild Wars 2 plays on it. So glad I picked one up!_*
I have the 2+ and ordered the 3 last night. The 2+ is spectacular for $100. My only two nit-picks are with the screen. It is absolutely perfect for 8 bit games and even 16 bit, but it is brutally small for anything high-res. Forget about cloud gaming unless hooked up to an external monitor. The screen is unmercifully small for ultra small text, menus, icons, etc in modern games. It is punishing to try and squint at hi-res games on the 3.5" screen. Again...for retro consoles with big blocky pixels, it's perfect. The second nit-pick is that the screen doesn't dim NEARLY enough. It is torture trying to play in bed or a dimly lit room. The lowest brightness is still blinding in the dark. That coupled with trying to play hi-res games...it's a nightmare. Again, outstanding for low-res games in a normally lit environment. I'm hoping the Pocket 3 with its larger screen will make hi-res gaming much more palatable, and if it actually dims properly, that'd be icing on the cake.
Other than my LB being stuck when it got here, this is everything I’ve wanted. It’s much more comfortable to me than the 2+ and the screen makes it far better for game streaming along with L3 and R3, it’s perfect and they didn’t charge 240 for it like some other company’s would
Honestly my personal daily driver for emulation is the New 3DS XL. Still looking into how plausible the Steam Deck is for more modern console emulation. But for now, the N3DSXL is by far the best of the best in my personal opinion.
I use steam deck, a snapdragon phone and an old 2DS over my N3DS due to being the most comfortable handheld on earth. For 16 bit games and below I'll never use anything but the 3DS due to my injects via NSUI having non-existent input lag. May be old but still a champ!
Also I assume u mean 360/PS3 emulation for steam deck. Some games will work pretty well but I've noticed every game from that era I've been interested in has had a PC port (vast majority of them at least) and steam deck will pretty much play any 2007-16 game, sometimes with graphics/performance tweaks. Though if it isn't supported by the deck itself you can dualboot into windows and play that way.
As a happy RP2+ owner, this review really helped me convince myself that I don't need this - if I want a similar form factor, I can grab the Odin Lite. Thanks! I love your content - great video!
The retroid pocket 3 looks nice, I like the form factor, but the volume button on the side and start/select button locations are a deal breaker for me. The quality control issues surrounding it are also a huge factor in purchase consideration.
Because I prefer to play my PS2/GameCube games on their native systems, this system does everything I want it to do. The DS emulator would be perfect for the old games I can’t find for good prices (and the touch screen is what I need) And if I want 3DS games I have a native 2DS Xl system I can jailbreak. While leaving my main system alone. This just works better to me. The button placement doesn’t bother me so much since I just need something that can easily play older DS games and it has a little bigger of a screen which I like. 8/10 this is gonna be my new emulator. I’ll still keep my RP2. But it just won’t be used. As often
I'm personally still using my PSP for playing games on the go. I have a DSLite as well, but I get infinitely more use out of my PSP. Going to be ordering a switch soon, which admittedly isn't for emulation but is for portable gaming
I went with the way less powerful, RG 353P as my next upgrade from the RG350M I was playing with. TOTALLY worth it. 3 storage locations, dual boot OS, and can play up to PS1 well. I know not great. Can do some dreamcast oh and N64 plays pretty well too. But that SNES controller form factor is nice and android is meh on it. I'm an android user for phones and tablets.
As someone who use to use an NFL PS2 controller having start and select on top is normal for me. Also the home button was on the bottom like where the frequency knob is on a wave bird.
volume button thing reminds me of how my new 2ds xl would sometimes change volume unexpectedly bc i accidentally hit the slider. most terrifying moment is mid-rhythm game when the volume either rockets up painfully loud or mutes itself when you’ve got a fc going and can’t stop
I think it’s such a shame that they abandoned the retro design, now it just looks like a switch. That is what set them apart from most of the competition and what made Retroid “retroid”. I would kill for a RP3 in the RP2 body.
I use my Miyoo Mini more than anything else just because it is so easy to get into my games and fits in my pocket. I like my Retroid Pocket 2+ but I don't use it a lot. I like the overall look to the Retroid Pocket 3 but I'll wait till the 3+ comes out :)
@@robwaters8848 Honestly it’s quite a delightful device. I have small hands and it is still a bit cramped on the ergonomics but the software is very easy to put on the sd card and I quite enjoy it. The retroid pocket was a very tedious process to add all my games and get my box set up and running and navigating around the games library isn’t at easy. I take the Miyoo mini every time I go out cause the footprint is so small and I often play for anywhere between 10 minutes to an hour and it’s good :) I plug it in a for a quick charge every few days or so and I’m good to go :D the screen is quite nice. I just watched my retro game corp tutorial to set it up.
I'm actually thinking about upgrading my 2+ to the 3, it is my first emulation handheld. I love 2+ performance but I have poor eyesight, so the screen is a bit too small for me to enjoy it as much as people with good eyesight can.
Couldn’t find a Steam Deck so got a Samsung S8 Plus tablet with the SnapDragon 8 chip. It can emulate PS2, GameCube & Wii (about 80% of GC & Wii games well so far. All with some fps & performance drops), 3DS, and everything below. Including Sega Saturn. Until I get a Steam Deck, it’s my emulation platform of choice. Plus, with a USB-C to USB-B 3.0 adapter, you can hook up pretty much any USB device, like external hard drives, keyboards, etc.
i have one.. really nice quality and screen plays everything perfect til dreamcast but psp games outrun2006 need to be 1x resolution to play without frameskip(which sucks on quality) but you can play on 2x resolution with frameskip on if you want , and plays decent
I've always been into these emulation devices but since the steam deck I'm done. Thing can handle almost everything I've thrown at it and it's easy to set up
Everybody already brought him up, but Taki Udon has had some poor interactions promoting the retroid pocket, as the company has taken out or changed features with notifying anybody thereof after reviews have been given.
I have a steam deck but a retro pocket emulator would be nice for snes and older and maybe 2D PS1 games but I'd like it to be in the GBA form factor like the retroid but around $80 or less. Doesn't really need to analog sticks but I'm not sure
As an Australian, the costs of shipping and with our currency rates, I'm better off getting a Switch Lite for AU$299 and homebrewing it. I just went to buy a Retroid 3 3GB, and it's AU$269 shipped. Gahhh. What do I do?
I was actually debating on buying this 2 days before I got my Steam Deck purchase notification. The last handheld emulator I purchased was a Dingoo A320. So I’m glad these devices are getting better as time goes on.
Completely geoblocked out of purchasing a Steam Deck in my region, so the RP3 it is. Ordered it a couple days ago. So excited. Steam Link is gonna work great on this thing
Whats up, love the channel! So which would you use as number one? This or the analog pocket? I imagine this one is much cheaper than the AP. Sounds like it has some issues and not sure how infeel about the dice roll on the screen. Perhaps modding a 3ds is still high on my list.
Got mine a few days ago and I’m loving it. Got a good screen luckily and I’m happy with the way the default buttons feel so I’ll skip opening it until there’s an issue. I’m disappointed in the ps1 performance so far but I still need to tweak. I do wish it was more powerful though, having GC running would’ve been amazing.
Excellent review! Helped me alot in deciding wether or not to buy one =) But FOR THE LOVE OF THE GODS, would you please stabilize your table?! Or get a sturdier one! 😅
I haven't read a single bad comment about this device on You Tube, Redit or Discord including Taki's Discord, so I'm not sure how reliable his video is.
I got an email that my RP3 and case are on the way. 2nd Thumb stick and the larger screen are what sold me over the 2+. Now if my AYN Odin Pro could ship soon 🤞🤞🤞
Hello I have a few questions that need to be answered before I can buy this. If you could please answer that would be GREATLY appreciated. 1. Does it have Bluetooth audio support and does it lag? 2. When playing on hdmi out is there noticeable lag? Thank you!
I was tempted to pick up one of these for my girlfriend since she likes my RG351P but the form factor isn't the best and I can't afford a second Steam Deck but hooooo boy the Start and Select, volume, and Home being where they are is a complete dealbreaker.
I just decided to order one. I would have preferred to get the AYN Odin, but I would have spent twice as much and probably had to wait forever to get it.
I did catch Taki's video. Luckily I have a RP2+ so I didn't get swept up even though I wanted the RP3. I suspect we will see another generation from them in the future to bring good GameCube to the sub $150 market.
I own the Retroid Pocket 2+ and also the Odin Pro. I’d you have the option, go with the Odin Pro. It’s worth the 6 month wait. It blows away any other handheld with the exception of the Steam Deck!
I've already got a RP2 (not the plus). I won't consider getting a new device until one of these companies makes something that can play GameCube for less than 100 dollars. But even then I've switched over to using my phone for emulation and that is even better than the best, most expensive options on the market.

There's so many reviews for the RP3, and that'd cool and all, but I would REALLY like to see someone out there make a Beginner start up guide for it, like step 1: How to add roms to the damn thing.
I totally skipped on Retroid Pocket 3 or 2+ for that matter after Taki Udon's video. However your 3DS video made me homebrew my 2DS XL and go and buy a used wedge shaped 2DS. Loving it! Edit: I sold the Wedge 2DS and barely use my 2DS XL now. I did however order the Retroid Pocket 3+. So here's hoping it will be good!
Adding a second to modding a Vita. The Vita is probably the best handheld Nintendo should have made but didn't. Barring that, there's nothing like playing on original hardware. I like the Vita because it has solid hardware and a loooooong battery life. Vita can play MOST Nintendo consoles but anything with Mode7 tends to chug, so for those games I prefer to go to my 2DS LL. I have the Black/Blue 2DS LL modded and loaded up with games (digital versions of games I own) and it's a dream. The only benefit to a dedicated emulation machine is that you don't have to do any legwork yourself on modding a device, but the original hardware is almost always a more satisfying experience.
I literally ordered the wrong color yesterday and emailed them to change it for me and they did the next day ON SUNDAY no hassle. Good customer service in my books. I mean this is emulators we talking about
I would say from the box your system came in you probably didn't get just a random rp3 anyone else may have received. Mine came in a much more professional looking white box with retroid branding (but also a manual that had stickers correcting "digital stick" to "analog stick" lol)
Also I really don't know if it's accurate, but the delivery dashboard on the Retroid site still has the shipping date pushing back daily for that particular model, so that's interesting that he already has one. I ordered the same one and have yet to receive a shipping notice, maybe I'm just unlucky lol
I just bought my first emulator ever (pocket 2+). I’m VERY pleased, and I’m playing a ton of GBA games. When I saw this video my face drooped because I thought I bought that device prematurely. Like you mentioned, I don’t think anyone with pocket 2+ should feel buyers remorse. I don’t plan to upgrade due to the small improvements, but the 3 is a cool little device! Technology is wild! I’ll probably upgrade in a year or 2 when the budget devices can reliably play PS2 and GameCube.
Not bad at all! Streams well too, but I already got an Odin so... but if I didn't? I'd highly think bout getting this. But there's sooo many that are coming out now, it's insane! Curious bout the battery life though, how long can you game with.. Dreamcast?

The Retroid Pocket 2+ seems like the best fit for my needs. I like that's it's smaller. I'd want a very portable machine capable of NES - DreamCast games.
Without an improved chip, i dont see much of a point getting the 3. 90% of the things you will play on it are not helped with a wide-screen. It just eats more battery
@@death-by-ego For me I would use it a lot for streaming from my PC. So the HD wide screen would be very welcome for me.
That said, I'm firmly in the casual gamer camp, so the amount of community support for the Miyoo Mini is key for me.
this is reassuring to hear as i anxiously wait for mine to be delivered
@@mistermoshi6505 That video is literally mentioned at 4:49.
@@johnrichardwilliams Cool.
I just want something slightly smaller than this that can run ps2 without any problems... Now that one would make me all kinds of happy! 😹
Just wanted to say: Fuck yeah I like seeing Sonic Riders get some love. I loved that game, but nobody ever talks about it
But then we'll be so close to Xbox 360 and ps3!
I feel this post. I love the older systems but PS2 + Dolphin opens up so many options. 2nd generation steam deck and similar devices will likely handle PS3 nicely as well.
Im really happy about the growing market of hand Helds. It really excites me, I hope more companies use the native method of analogue.
When they make one that can reliably play PS2 and GameCube games, I'm in!
ODIN Lite
@@Ruslan.88266 STEAM DECK
retroid and odin are owned by the same company, so the odin lite is your best choice. you won’t see a retroid get much better than this
Gonna be a while at this price range.
@@papa_NCF Great to hear!!!
The quality control issues surrounding it are also a huge factor in purchase consideration.
also the analogs are in the wrong spot. RP2 is still better
If I had a nickel for everytime BaHb made a video about a new emulator, I'd have a lot of nickels.
Just pre ordered the 3+. Glad I waited
As someone who use to use an NFL PS2 controller having start and select on top is normal for me. Also the home button was on the bottom like where the frequency knob is on a wave bird.
btw I love how you have been doing the sponsored ads, and the dog was a nice touch there, I was like DAWWW puppers!
D-pad on top for platformers is godly.
volume button thing reminds me of how my new 2ds xl would sometimes change volume unexpectedly bc i accidentally hit the slider. most terrifying moment is mid-rhythm game when the volume either rockets up painfully loud or mutes itself when you’ve got a fc going and can’t stop
Sorry Bob, I'm never sick of these videos. Always excited to see a notification pop up from your Channel.
I think it’s such a shame that they abandoned the retro design, now it just looks like a switch. That is what set them apart from most of the competition and what made Retroid “retroid”. I would kill for a RP3 in the RP2 body.
Basically what the RP2+ is. Uses the same CPU.
So get a RP2+
@@GeneralChaz9 that’s the one I have, but the design was introduced with the RP2.
A lot of GameCube titles and PS2 run just fine. Are you using the correct version of Dolphin?
There are various videos of people running these games.
I use my Miyoo Mini more than anything else just because it is so easy to get into my games and fits in my pocket. I like my Retroid Pocket 2+ but I don't use it a lot. I like the overall look to the Retroid Pocket 3 but I'll wait till the 3+ comes out :)
That's the one in zoning in on myself. What has your experience been with the Miyoo?
I don’t know looks like I will be happier with my ayn Odin lite coming in a few days. My interest is a lot more in the psx and ps2 category
Same. Is it so bad that I want to play all of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 on a small formfactor? The Odin is a better option.
@@TakoiKadoozle I totally get that.
The only channel where i never skip the sponsored add.
Yeah he made this ad entertaining and I didn’t think that was even possible. I’m impressed.
It’s good until you know that the Rp2+ is getting Android 11 patch soon.
Giving a like right away for showing Wario Land 4, best game ever on gba but very underrated
Nah mate best GBA game Shrek Kart
Still waiting for mine and after seeing your video I wonder what version they send me 😅
i have one.. really nice quality and screen plays everything perfect til dreamcast but psp games outrun2006 need to be 1x resolution to play without frameskip(which sucks on quality) but you can play on 2x resolution with frameskip on if you want , and plays decent
I actually ordered one about 2 weeks before you made this video and it should arrive next weekend.
I've always been into these emulation devices but since the steam deck I'm done. Thing can handle almost everything I've thrown at it and it's easy to set up
Was wondering same thing but isn't it overkill and expensive for emulation?
Aww Roo thought you were asking “YAHUNGRY130?” And he was just tryin to get down with some chow
Honestly the perfect gift for my nephews.
This way they have a way to experience the greatest games of the past.
Thanks! great review. have the 2, 3 look great in your hand. I purchased the 3 after watching your review, the screen size and form is my major draw.
I'll wait for their next week's model and see.
Excellent review! Helped me alot in deciding wether or not to buy one =)
But FOR THE LOVE OF THE GODS, would you please stabilize your table?! Or get a sturdier one! 😅
Would you recommend something like this for someone who doesn't know anything about emulators? Or perhaps something better and user friendly?
I haven't read a single bad comment about this device on You Tube, Redit or Discord including Taki's Discord, so I'm not sure how reliable his video is.
I got an email that my RP3 and case are on the way. 2nd Thumb stick and the larger screen are what sold me over the 2+. Now if my AYN Odin Pro could ship soon 🤞🤞🤞

*New handheld emulator comes out*
Wulffdenn: how many times do We have to keep teaching you this lesson old man?!
I grabbed a Pixel 6a for $150 (thanks Google) and it plays everything! Razer Kishi v2 on top of that?
HEAVEN!
Wario Land 4 is my favorite GBA game!!! Such a fun game!
Me: interested
Wulff: runs on android
Me: then it's a freaking phone.
Oh wow the volume and start button are a pretty serious factor to consider. Can't help but think "modified phones" :')
I just want a solid PS2 emulator sheesh
I did catch Taki's video. Luckily I have a RP2+ so I didn't get swept up even though I wanted the RP3. I suspect we will see another generation from them in the future to bring good GameCube to the sub $150 market.
I own the Retroid Pocket 2+ and also the Odin Pro. I’d you have the option, go with the Odin Pro. It’s worth the 6 month wait. It blows away any other handheld with the exception of the Steam Deck!
I'll just wait for four.
Great device! On another note, what's up with the 24 fps videos? I checked and it seems some (if not all) of your videos are @24. Maybe by choice?
I've already got a RP2 (not the plus). I won't consider getting a new device until one of these companies makes something that can play GameCube for less than 100 dollars. But even then I've switched over to using my phone for emulation and that is even better than the best, most expensive options on the market.
heard you talk about never hearing ppl talk about ring fit but like you said its one of the best games i played on te switch so far and i played more ten 50 games on switch in a year time
playing ring fit is a big help when i coulnd not jump on my bike becous of injeries and stil work out while gaming, with personal exprianse i can say this is a game that wil 100% improve your health with playing a game ( if you use it 1,2 hours a day)
There's so many reviews for the RP3, and that'd cool and all, but I would REALLY like to see someone out there make a Beginner start up guide for it, like step 1: How to add roms to the damn thing.
You can probably just follow an RP2+ guide honestly
create backups from your original games, duh
That's coz RP3 is the same device as RP2+ just with a different form factor and there are detailed setup guides for the RP2+ already.
Nice video, could you do one where you highlight the retro games that you can't live without?
between getting a phone specifically for this, modding a 2ds, or getting this which do you feel to be easier/better overall
Mod a vita
@@Gallotti No its buggy and the vitas library is so small
phone.... it's going to be the most versatile and powerful
Taki has talked about the screen issues so I'm not sure if I would buy this

Lowkey bummed I canceled my order because I saw the Toki Udon video. Oh well, I’ll wait 3 months until the next portable emulator.

Dreamcast?
Would be perfect for pokemon pinball ruby and sapphire
@WulffDen hey Bob you should install some "Clicky" BUTTons on the Pocket 3. I think you might like it better, or even swap out the shell for a metal one 😁
The retro handheld market is bizarre. This is one of the most bizarre to me, I have Taki Udon telling me this isn't a good one and he skipped it and now I have Bob Wulff telling me it's great.... What the hell do I do in this situation???
Ordered a Black 3 GB. Can't wait.
8bitdo has SOOOOO much new stuff! You should totally do a video on all of it I’ll watch it like 5885967 times
