When I got my SNES out of storage for my kids to play (who am I kidding, I haven't stopped playing it for a year straight now), the first game i told them to play was Super Metroid. They didn't understand it at first and said it was stupid. Then I showed them a little bit of the game and some of the items you can get. After they both completed it, I was forced to buy them every Metroid game possible. They love the SNES games more than the new ones now.
I will never get tired of liking people loving the Metroid series. Metroid & Metal Gear are by far the best IPs to of existed, with a nod to Chrono Trigger as that game alone is worthy of so much praise. Please enjoy this, new generation of gamers - it is a milestone of not just my youth, but of thousands of others!
Those Baby Mario sounds when the Metroid was chomping made me smile. You took time to remind us once again why the purity and influence of this game is so important to gamers.
Also, Metroid was the series of the two that first introduced the open world & exploration with permanent power-up collection mechanic. Castlevania only got onboard with that on SOTN.
Couldn't agree more. I actually played this very very late, and I could still see the whole beauty in it. Purely amazing. Easily one of the best experiences in gaming, like, ever. No matter if someone has played this young or not. It simply doesn't matter. Its just TOO good. Atmosphere in this game is topnotch only diablo 1 and this game from that era, truly knew what they were doing, about making an insanely memorable eerie, alien atmosphere. Can't be rivalled by modern games, in that regard. Fun fact : Once again you included your donkey kong music in there. haha. I get it, but super metroid is still so amazing that it's worth using the SM soundtrack for the whole video imo.
I played the SNES as a kid, but this game was one of the few titles I never played due to me not knowing it existed. So when I bought the SNES Classic last year I got my first true experience with Super Metroid. It is now my third favorite game ever made.
Props for representing the Randomizers, they are now my favorite way to play the game :) If you want a new way to play this, you should try a randomly generated bingo card. The objective isn't to complete the game, but to obviously complete a Bingo of random objectives. Definitely makes you think about how you have to play the game differently!
How dare you Jirard, showing my favorite game on the Genesis "Rocket Knight Adventures" that I've beaten like a 100 times and saying "some games are only worth going through once", how dare you...lol
I just started playing this again on the switch. I used to play it all the time when I was a kid, but like most games I never actually beat them as a kid.
What you didn't really mention about Sam is that when you finally got the ending that showed her in the bikini, that was actually the first time most people ever even knew she was a girl. That was a mind blowing moment and gaming history. By that point people were very invested in the game and story, to find out you were playing as a badass chick was really cool.
I never played this game on the original SNES when I was a kid. I bought the Classic because I loved the console so much. After playing this game for the first time ever, it is now my third favorite game ever made. I then did the daunting task of beating the game in under 3 hours to get the best ending. I succeeded. Now with the confidence knowing that I can do that again in the future whenever I want to, it's time for me to 100% this baby! Jirard! Give me strength! Let the power flow from your beard to mine!

Just finished this game for the first time like an hour ago! It was so good! 9.5/10 The missing .5 is because the wall jump and space jump mechanics were way too hard to use and cause me a lot of pain.
Saying that the space jump is hard to use is understandable; but the wall jump is _supposed_ to be an advanced technique - it's hard by design, and it's in no way needed to complete the game, except if you save at one certain save point. But even then you only need one wall jump.
Thanks Jirard for doing this! I fell in love with this game when I tried it first time two months ago when I bought a mini SNES classic and it's there. Now I've completed this masterpiece five times and it belongs to my all time favourite video games list.
My one nitpick for this game is the map, specifically when it comes to displaying both non-collected and collected items a simple square dot isn't enough
Confession time. Metroidvanias aren’t my thing. Not a game genre I typically enjoy or seek out. That being said, I have to respect these games, they are as transformative as they are iconic. And its cool to see someone geek out about something that isn’t necessarily my thing.
Also @The Completionist the word you were searching for was "Choir." A "chorus," is the repeated verse everyone remembers. Remember, chorus = catchy - choir = creepy.

I just finished this game for the first time yesterday and coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't play this style of game very often, I can't say it really made as huge of an impression on me. I don't think it was bad by any means. I just felt like there are some clunky aspects to the jumping that I just couldn't ever get used to. That, the even more clunky grappling, and the cryptic world design of how crucial traversal points were hidden made it more frustrating to finish than satisfying to the end. I just didn't find it that appealing to feel the need to compulsively fire all weapon types at every type of surface for basic progression. The look of the game was great and it definitely had some great moments but I can't put this anywhere near the greatest games of all time. But hey, like they say, opinions are like assholes, everyone's got one and not everyone waxes their asshole.
This game is the *epitome* of optimization for your console and passion in game developement (The team that worked on it at Nintendo spent so much time and effort on it that some of them lived there and the place got so bad it garnered the nickname "The Zoo")😋 and that dedication is felt in every second... Even 20+ years later. Super Metroid, in all aspects, is one of the *greatest* examples of game design that I could ever give such praise and admiration to. After they both completed it, I was forced to buy them every Metroid game possible. They love the SNES games more than the new ones now.
More kids need parents like you.
I got this game when it first came out. Was amazing then, and is still amazing now. Best 2D Metroid EVER.
Awesome! This was my first Metroid game
6:36 just setting this here
LOL 😭
Those Baby Mario sounds when the Metroid was chomping made me smile. You took time to remind us once again why the purity and influence of this game is so important to gamers.

Metroid came 1st
That's why it's Metroidvania.
Not Castlevaniaroid.
And more importantly it sounds nicer
Noname Nobody yup the original, everything copy from this .
Zachary Erickson XD
Also, Metroid was the series of the two that first introduced the open world & exploration with permanent power-up collection mechanic. Castlevania only got onboard with that on SOTN.
@@MosoKaiser I think the term you're looking for, is "ability gates," but yeah, I know what you mean.
This is one of the games in the new SNES collection on Switch. I'm 15, so I've never had the chance to play it, but I love Metroidvanias. Can't wait!
What did you think of it?
I played the SNES as a kid, but this game was one of the few titles I never played due to me not knowing it existed. So when I bought the SNES Classic last year I got my first true experience with Super Metroid.
It is now my third favorite game ever made.
Ah yes, my favourite video game of all time... truely a great game.
Props for representing the Randomizers, they are now my favorite way to play the game :)
If you want a new way to play this, you should try a randomly generated bingo card.
RocketKnight, I've played through, about half a dozen times, (SNES) Sparkster... thrice. The music though... 👌🏿❤️
Props to the thumbnail artist/illustrator, i love the texture added to give it that old gamey type feeling
For the longest time Metroid Fusion was my favorite game in the series, then I went back and played Super Metroid and....yeah this game is awesome
Ehhh, Fusion and Zero Mission sre much beter tbh
@@jesusramirezromo2037 ... Okay?
@@jesusramirezromo2037 Blasphemy
I never played this game on the original SNES when I was a kid. I bought the Classic because I loved the console so much. After playing this game for the first time ever, it is now my third favorite game ever made. I then did the daunting task of beating the game in under 3 hours to get the best ending. I succeeded. Now with the confidence knowing that I can do that again in the future whenever I want to, it's time for me to 100% this baby!
Jirard! Give me strength! Let the power flow from your beard to mine!
I wish Nintendo made a remake of this game on the Switch.
This game is perfect no remake needed
with visuals ala teslagrad that game will be cream
I wish Nintendo released their retro games on Switch, period.
Remaster*
I wish Nintendo would release more than just NES games and eventually move on to SNES
I replayed this the other day, first time in 20 years. an absolute master piece. Thanks for the video!!
Finally!
This is probaly the best new game plus and one of your best episodes.
Damn it Dad! I’m playing games with my bros!
Skip to 4:20 for video. Also, blaze it.
Where’d you get that shirt from
The intro when you’re doing the sponsorship?
Love you man I enjoyed hanging with you and ross on stream last night it was an epic stream I'll never forget!
It is a fantastic game! Another game I can recommend is AM2R if you want classic metroid goodness
God Super Metroid! This Was The First Episode Of The Completionist I’ve Ever See Back In ScrewAttack!!! Good Memories!!!
RIP ScrewAttack
Fuck Death Battle
Completed Super Metroid a few days ago.
If you completed it, you don't have to say 100%, that's redundant.
Jerad: "and one last time, I SAVED THE ANIMALS GODDAMMIT!"
People who know what that means for the Metroid Universe and are on team kill: "but like, don't"
Just finished this game for the first time like an hour ago! It was so good! 9.5/10
The missing .5 is because the wall jump and space jump mechanics were way too hard to use and cause me a lot of pain.
Saying that the space jump is hard to use is understandable; but the wall jump is _supposed_ to be an advanced technique - it's hard by design, and it's in no way needed to complete the game, except if you save at one certain save point. But even then you only need one wall jump.
Space jump was ez af but the wall jump...
I would give it a 9.5 becouse of the wall jump and bcz the map doesnt show you if you have or havent collected an item.
Thanks Jirard for doing this! I fell in love with this game when I tried it first time two months ago when I bought a mini SNES classic and it's there. Now I've completed this masterpiece five times and it belongs to my all time favourite video games list.
Hey guys, any idea if Jirard's played this one before?
I think he did that one time...
nvm that was alttp
That voice crack at 13:06
My one nitpick for this game is the map, specifically when it comes to displaying both non-collected and collected items a simple square dot isn't enough
Ah to go back to a time when a single pixel shooting across the screen would make people so freaking happy!
Ok, ill take a Break from SGDQ for this :)
Confession time. Metroidvanias aren’t my thing. Not a game genre I typically enjoy or seek out. That being said, I have to respect these games, they are as transformative as they are iconic. And its cool to see someone geek out about something that isn’t necessarily my thing.
The last metroid is in captivity....
Also @The Completionist the word you were searching for was "Choir." A "chorus," is the repeated verse everyone remembers. Remember, chorus = catchy - choir = creepy.
New metroidvania fans: There's no Metroidvania that has the polish of Hollow Knight
Super Metroid: Duh hello
Castpevania Symphony of the Night: He's worse than Richter.
It's "HddddcthRichter." 🤣
Super Metroid is turbo jank compared to the newer ones, it's not necessarily polished.
"Some games are only worth completing once before moving onto something new"
*OOF* I spent half my childhood trying to beat Rocket Knight. Once I did, I gave a huge fist pump in relief...and haven't looked at the cartridge in 20+ years 😂
If you still new ways to play the game, there are plenty of ROM hacks out there that can give you new ways to play the game, or even give you a completely new game to play.
Wdym gives u a new game
@@imperfect_dan7519 A lot of hacks completely change the map design to something completely new. They keep the same core gameplay, but the experience is completely different. Hacks like Redesign, Z-Factor, Hyper, and Ascent are like this.
My favourite game of all time!
That thumbnail made me chuckle a little. Keep up the good work.
The hardest working man in the business!
I love Super Metroid, but I still prefer Metroid Fusion. Personal preferences!
They're both great games though Super Metroid did it first and in a lot of ways did it better. I loved the story to Fusion a lot better. I think if they ever did a movie, that would be the most interesting.
@@shadowproductions969 Metroid Fusion controls better than Super, firing missiles in SM is annoying (having to press select to change weapons...) and grabbing ledges is a most. Again, only my opinion.
@slimDaTa grabbing ledges is indeed a most
@@slimDaTa Zero Mission has the best from both worlds, it reigns supreme.
@@gu3z185 The story from Metroid Fusion is a lot better, I feel like. And I just love the horror aspect of Fusion. Zero Mission is great, for sure.
Within the last couple of years, I 100% completed Super Metroid (and to a lesser extent Metroid Fusion). I finally understand what all the hype this series is about after many years ignoring it
Okay okay, now that you did this, do Scott Pilgrim
You'd have to still be able to play that game.
@@l3x1c0n1c Ah shit, you're right. Here's hoping he still has it
You know, that's gonna be really hard for Jirard to do at this point, and I'm pretty sure that's under his New Game + completion list. I wonder if hes gonna be able to find a console that still has that game on it
It's a big bummer it's impossible to play it unless you have in already installed.... licensing is dumb
Not insulting you Jirard, but why are all channels being sponsored by Raid Shadow Legends?
Because he raids games
This game is the *epitome* of optimization for your console and passion in game developement (The team that worked on it at Nintendo spent so much time and effort on it that some of them lived there and the place got so bad it garnered the nickname "The Zoo")😋 and that dedication is felt in every second... Even 20+ years later. Super Metroid, in all aspects, is one of the *greatest* examples of game design that I could ever give such praise and admiration to. Thank you *Deer Force!!*
