His music isn’t anything revolutionary or mind-blowing but his voice and cadence are so fun and easy on the ears. I also appreciate how his come-up was so organic and old-school. He gained a local following in his hometown and grew overtime, and you can tell that gave him a good sense of self-awareness. He’s also incredibly charming and funny outside of his own music. He’s not arrogant like other young rappers. He doesn’t make my favorite music but he’s one of my favorite celebrities right now.

I dont know how you could hate Jack Harlow. He has great charisma on the mic, he's not a cornball or a pretentious lyrical, spiritual, miracle rapper. He makes catchy songs for the radio and he has the right sound for what he does. The pop, club oriented rap might not be everyone's cup of tea buy he's does the sound well.

Just. Be. Yourself. If you have the talent as a white rapper, be YOUR self and tell your story. It will get you the most respect from the people who matter. Jack Harlow is genuine. He's goofy. He's living the life he set his mind to when he was a fucking tween, and i understand the feeling of "wow. i deserve to feel myself right now." that he carries. That said, it will wear out at some point. Hopefully, he grows and matures at a quick enough rate for his core audience.

I Sympathize with sentiment. Nothing is wrong with your argument nor the one Shawn C presented. It’s just that the perspective is ignorant-that Jack is new to the attention he’s getting and that he has a lot of room to grow. He’s got a lot of positive attributes that you want to see in a rapper like authenticity and decent music to back it up. He’s the type of person you want in the scene, and until he grows out of touch by some measure-condemnation of his position in the game is a sort sighted and close minded conclusion to reach. It’s objectively gatekeeping against a dude who’s a better guy then most white rappers. And even if he ends up being a piece of sh*t in the near future, at least he provides his intelligence, being committed to the game since his start up, not giving up in the first many years because people weren’t clickin with his sh*t, and once found his wave, he didn’t fall off. He has taken his opportunity and has fostered a fan base. An accomplishment that most wannabe rappers fail to accomplish.
I get that his music isn’t quite the greatest in terms of quality and that other people may deserve more attention than him. He’s a white rapper-and is deserved of the criticism based upon the history white rappers have fostered. Why should we hold Harlow to a different kind of standard? He isn’t exactly the most decorated rapper when it comes to making an impact on the mainstream.
These are valid criticisms serving to reaffirm my statement of sympathy. However if you f*ck with him or even have a grasp on his place within the game. You know he’s different. I don’t have to repeat the reasoning behind my sentiment. We have enough proof.
At the very least, we know he’s a smart dude who is deserved of the attention he’s getting. He may not be no Kendrick, but he’s proof that preparation and hard work pays off. (Not to say that statement is always true, but in his case the boxes are checked off.)
(Btw I haven’t watched the video yet-now that I am I’m glad fantano has a similar sentiment)

How could you hate this guy?! He just makes good hip-hop and he's a good, charismatic guy. The only thing my 69 years old dad found to say about him was that he didn't liked the way he dressed on his NPR show and he didn't really cared for the music. I agree that this particular beige aesthetic wasn't his best fashion move and his glasses are IMHO cringe in a meme kind of way. Jack doesn't even have a struggle to pry from when it comes to actual bragging (rags to riches) because he was never in rags to begin with. Other artists that do brag, also make up for it with actually clever punchlines. Jack doesn't have that, his wordplay is actually quite sub-par and usually says the same thing, poorly, multiple times, in the same track. Now imagine that, but over 10 tracks, or 20. You see where we're going with this? All his other songs where he attempts to do anything else are low quality and never buzz like this stuff - as well as not having the worldplay and punchlines to carry them - thus riding this specific topic over and over again will test his audience in the near future. It's good for now, but it will become stale pretty quick.

Sundown was one of his most critically well received and that song goes a decent bit (albeit lightly) on his grind.

I don’t really listen to him but he’s funny as fuck and he’s one of my favorite celebrity personalities rn. He seems pretty humble, and it’s cool to see his reactions to big artists like drake and Ye giving him recognition.

Jack shows all signs needed for longevity. He had developed a fan base in his hometown and has been supposedly been doing sold out shows since his freshman year in high school. You look at people at the top of the game and they came up on the old school word of mouth vs having internet success too early with nothing to back it (J Cole was in the middle of the shift… middle child). He already had a solidified fan base before any mainstream hits and now you can see legends in the game vouching for him (Drake, Ye, Drama). He can be lyrical when he needs and he can ride on a variety of beats, checkout “Time” w Statik Selektah. He’s more skilled than he’s letting on and I believe his next project will cast a light on everything he can do. Felt the same way about Jaden with Syre. Jaden had a lot of greats riding behind him, however, I feel he fumbled the bag and that’s hard to get back.

I get Shawn Cees take on Jack being very unoriginal, but his work still has some qualities of worth - namely his flow, his voice and the production. It's very hard to quantify exactly but many artists are popular just because their voice sounds good, and he definitely can rap on beat very well. Finally though the production is very samey and played out it also just has a polish or competence that asks for respect.

Jack Harlow’s music is fine, he’s not a goat, but he’s not reeking garbage. He probably won’t be a mainstay in rap, but he’s a good placeholder for the moment.

Though you may be right and I can’t help feel similarly at times, I feel like that’s not a fair mindset to have on someone’s art.
Maybe he has some super conceptual passion project brewing away. I’d hate if I were making music and was seen as a “placeholder”.
But idk, I do get what you mean.

@@NeutralMjolkHotel Maybe. But until that hypothetical release comes out, "placeholder" is pretty valid. He's the new it boy, but will likely get replaced when something more popular comes around.

Hes similar to DG in hip hop that theyre not trying to use it as a means to get more popular, show off or prove themselved lyrically, but are doing their own thing and HAVING FUN
