I've gone back to restoring and riding vintage bikes, they're so much more fun and cost effective than bikes of today, the cranksets of the past were particularly beautiful.
Indeed. But the cranks and other components are heavier, in general. Still, who's racing? I'm an urban rider and my refurbed '79 Centurion Mixte gets me from point A to point B just fine .
I used to have a very similar bike, the Peugeot Oxford, and I loved this bike. I bought it in the early '90s until eventually the frame gave in, that was in 2019. I upgraded it over the decades with new parts but it was always the perfect companion for my commuter and daily shopping rides. Still miss it!
As someone (amateur DIY bike repair) who had to replace a 21 speed drivetrain AND a 7-speed freewheel hub (two different bikes), I can tell you 7 speeds are not easy to find these days. After having TWO orders cancelled, I had to settle for a Decathlon freewheel hub. No bike shop had it anymore. The 7-speed cassette for the 21-speed drivetrain was not much easier to find; I ended up keeping it and just replacing the sprockets. One other thing I had to keep was the old derailleur: the bike frame (which did not have space for a 8-speed cassette) did not have a place for the derailleur, which is attached directly to the wheel axle (it's also a pain to install, also being a quick-release system). I never found out how to dismantle the derailleur either; thankfully it still works. It was a free bike, so I don't complain, but it's tough to re-install the back wheel anytime something needs to be done. It is still nice to learn stuff to repair bikes however. It takes time, but saves on 25 euro trips to the bike shop (sometimes for repairs of the wrong thing...).
Bravo! Nice to have the tutorial minus background music. Vintage, eh…I still have an Apollo Prestige 21 speed road bike I bought new in 1983! Still rides amazingly well. With your lessons, I can keep it in even better condition. Grazie, Danny!
Please keep making videos like this one, I love this style of video, you did a amazing job with that bike, I would Glady own and use it as an everyday commuter bike. It's amazing what some hard work can do, most people would pass on and toss the bike, but that bike will probably last for many years to come.
Do all the peole in Poland have polishing machines? :D Just kidding, well I was avaiting for your new video and naow I am anjoying it. Really thank you for that, for your dedication to the details and commitment to whole project. I perfectly like video without any background music, OK maybe in the intro and outro that will be just as I would like. The tool for headset also can be used for press fit bottom brackets too. I made it for my self from threaded bar, few nuts and couple of washers (small and biger), it don't look fancy but does it's job. I also have headset bearings removal tool which my father in law made for me from inox tube, it works great. And yes really great video in your known style, htank you very much, I really enjoyed watching.
Danny, these videos are all very helpful. As it turns out, I came across a 1986 Specialized Rockhopper this weekend. It's ALL original with Shimano XT Deerhead and in pretty good shape for $60 US. I could not say "no." It needs some general cleanup. The bars have a bit of rust. I need all the instruction I can get.
Lovely work. I like that you left the frame with original paint and scratches. I’ve done a few old road and mountain myself and sold them on. I wish I could keep them all. Triple front chainrings are my nemesis though. All the best for Christmas.
Awsome and great work, but I would have re sprayed the frame and used different saddle and grips but that's just my taste you did a awsome job and I love the steam cleaner
Nice work on the parts. Wish you didn't miss the dust on the brake mounts & brace. Should polish & wax the frame when you stripped off the whole bike. Wax protects the frame & will make it more presentable. I always wax my frame when I rebuild my bikes.
Like your restore. Have stripped the black color from my old DX brake levers to the pure Alu. Love that two tone finish. And I would have chosen other (black & broad) tires, but that’s personal preference 😉.
Wow wonderful job. I am surprised that buttom nracket was actually whole metal. I do working on one road bike from Peugeot , and buttom braket is actually plastic in while apart from axle and bearing holder. Plastic is now baked into frame and giving me hard time to replace it... I am in process of hacksawing through bits of it... Takes ages.
Danny, could you make a video of how to remove a stuck seatpost? I have a beautiful vintage steel Specialized with an aluminium seatpost that got stuck. Need help.
Try spray wax on the frame to make it look "newer". Also: Use lighter fluid when putting on the handles. The fluid will evaporate within a minute or so leaving no grease, hair spray or whatever other people are using behind. And please use a torque wrench on the brake bolts ;-)
This is a video made for selling products. I prefer the older videos with proper mtb stuff for devoted mtb riders. Do a comparison for example of the Schwalbe Wicked Will and Vittoria Syerra as a front tyre. We never got your thoughts on the racing ralph/racing ray? Perhaps more thoughts on preparing for a race etc. That's the type of content we're looking for not deals on tools. You've made really good content in the past so please get back on track ;)
The chain seems to be a bit stiff where the pin was taken out and re-pressed in, so I would've pressed the pin back ever so slightly from the opposite side just to ease the friction so that the chain could swivel freely again.
Not sure if I would use break-cleaner before putting the rimtape in as it is pretty aggressive and can harm the painting inside. Cleaning gasoline should do the trick as well while being cheap as dirt but that will get rid of any grease left. I am always worried about such aggressive stuff and avoid it as possible if something lighter can do the trick. Otherwise a nice video, without music is totally fine. I was experimenting with some background at ~1/3rd of the volume of your voice but that did not change enough to be worth the effort
High quality brake clean is perfectly fine. The cheap stuff is typically much harsher and will eat paint. The good stuff, wurth for example, is relatively safe on paint
What kind/size of screws were in the fork bosses? Also, what is the thickness of the spacers between the largest and middle chainring? Thanks and wonderful vid.
Cool video, love to watch restorations like this. One comment on the no-music thing: I think is ok, but check the audio in the future, there is a very high pitch noise in the beginning (the wheel cleaning part i think) that kinda bothers. having said that: looks dope! nice work!
The front derailleur is sitting too high. The outer cage should be sitting about 2mm away from the teeth of the biggest chainring when shifted into the biggest chainring.
in my experience electric tape slides around when the rim get hot. in the summer time. it can lead to a problem down the road. I have hears of people using gorilla tape!!

Question, what do you do with the bike after you cleaned it all, and refurbish it all , do you sell them ?? I think it's very good to recycle. But just the way you said "stinky saddle" think you need to throw out the stinky saddle😬😂 Wider wheels , the roads we have here in my town you need wider. My favorite bikes are my vintage 26 inch tires with the wider wheels now.
This video make me want to buy similar bike and restore it to shiny state. And guess what, tomorrow I am going to see one bike, the price is around 40€
Electrical tape is not strong enough to be used as rim tape, even several layers. Yes it will work for a while, but it won't reliably withstand the tire pressure without tearing through.
Do you save more $ with restoration or buying a new bike? That's the conundrum I face with my Trinx Tempo 1.0. Still have to replace the whole drive train system. 😒 Or I should save time & headaches & get a new bike.
I don't understand how the wheels can be so dirty you'd think this bike has been ridden for many hundreds thousands of km, yet once cleaned they look brand new as if they just got out of the bike shop, no sign of use what so ever
I've gone back to restoring and riding vintage bikes, they're so much more fun and cost effective than bikes of today, the cranksets of the past were particularly beautiful.
I bought one few days ago for 40€
I cannot believe how well made it is, for example crankset is so well made, and after I polish it, it will be shiny
Indeed. But the cranks and other components are heavier, in general. Still, who's racing? I'm an urban rider and my refurbed '79 Centurion Mixte gets me from point A to point B just fine .
Great idea to make a video without music! Thanks.
Men your restoration meant that whatever bike you have,Its always better to take good care and love it.I love you work men!
Please do more of these Videos with talking, very relaxing when working on my own restorations!
Much, much better without music!! Great vlog as usual. Your fan from India!
Definitely better with no music
I just love this video. Superb photography, good lighting. No background music is absolutely fine. Love those mechanical beats here and there.

Thank You for NO MUSIC!! Love the sound of those tools!😀
The results speak for themselves, great job restoring the bike!
Bravo! Nice to have the tutorial minus background music.

No music is perfect, there's a guy who does great work on UA-cam and he doesn't talk at all and his videos are great.
Please keep making videos like this one, I love this style of video, you did a amazing job with that bike, I would Glady own and use it as an everyday commuter bike. It's amazing what some hard work can do, most people would pass on and toss the bike, but that bike will probably last for many years to come.
I was so looking forward to you taking it for a short test ride and commenting on the performance, or the customer's reaction.
I love hybrid bikes, they have something unique.
Pretty sweet. I love restoring old bikes and selling them. And keeping e few.
Better without music. Love the sound of tools and work taking place. We are not in an elevator, so don't need music 😁
Love the restaration videos!.....more of these kind of videos please!
In this videos no music is the best music. Fantastic video and work.Thank you.
I love how quiet that free hub is!
Also, appreciate seeing your method for polishing components
That´s a very good restoration..........excellent work

Very nice work….Steel is Real….Love it
Lovely work. I like that you left the frame with original paint and scratches. I’ve done a few old road and mountain myself and sold them on. I wish I could keep them all. Triple front chainrings are my nemesis though. All the best for Christmas.
Transformation was incredible!!! I would move the front derailleur closer to the big ring but other than that, it is amazing.
Very nice bike! I love the cantilever brakes.
I almost thought you were a pro, till I saw you install bearings without packing them with grease first
Awsome and great work, but I would have re sprayed the frame and used different saddle and grips but that's just my taste you did a awsome job and I love the steam cleaner
I recommend aluminium scourer to clean the bicycle spokes. It's easy and has very good results and save time.
Velox tape is vintage and works very well - glued so sticks to the rim so doesn’t move. Also inexpensive
Nice work on the parts. Wish you didn't miss the dust on the brake mounts & brace. Should polish & wax the frame when you stripped off the whole bike. Wax protects the frame & will make it more presentable.
I always wax my frame when I rebuild my bikes.
Impressive man! Like honestly mind blowing.
Like your restore. Have stripped the black color from my old DX brake levers to the pure Alu. Love that two tone finish. And I would have chosen other (black & broad) tires, but that’s personal preference 😉.
I was thinking you could use a rotary tool with polishing set to clean or removing the rust from crankset 20:13
Wow wonderful job. I am surprised that buttom nracket was actually whole metal. Amazing restoration 🚴♂️🔥!
Not restricting to this video, but the shifter and rear mech re build videos are amazing, new subscriber. And I never subscribe to channels
I still like the old Deore (and the road Dura-Ace) group-sets. And I still prefer cantilever brakes, and have the scars to prove it.
Beautiful bike well done
Love your work❤
Nice job resurrecting it.
Danny, could you make a video of how to remove a stuck seatpost? I have a beautiful vintage steel Specialized with an aluminium seatpost that got stuck. Need help.
@21:30 what pliers are those you used to crimp the cable end?
Really super cool video and great job
I really like the no music version
Try spray wax on the frame to make it look "newer". Also: Use lighter fluid when putting on the handles. The fluid will evaporate within a minute or so leaving no grease, hair spray or whatever other people are using behind. And please use a torque wrench on the brake bolts ;-)
Great video with out music
I love restoring old 26ers just like this one, but I think if you would've polished the frame paint it would look a lot better :)
This is a video made for selling products. I prefer the older videos with proper mtb stuff for devoted mtb riders. Great project, love it without music.
nice bike restoration.
I like no music especially after the obnoxious music of the last few bike restoration videos i watched
Put the frame in a paint shop, then upgrade every component with newer parts?
Super nice restoration ! The only thing I would have done differently is the choice of the grips :)
That was so satisfying
Hello from Russia.Привет из России.

Hello
Can i use chain oil to lube brack pistons
What kind/size of screws were in the fork bosses? Also, what is the thickness of the spacers between the largest and middle chainring? Thanks and wonderful vid.
Well done! garbage to a very nice looking road bike. Just make the tire a bit thicker and it will be a modern gravel bike. Ride safe.
Nice job! The front derailleur is a bit far from the teeth though should have a 1-2mm gap max :)
great video good job
Cool video, love to watch restorations like this. One comment on the no-music thing: I think is ok, but check the audio in the future, there is a very high pitch noise in the beginning (the wheel cleaning part i think) that kinda bothers. having said that: looks dope! nice work!
What type of steam cleaner did you use? A regular household one?
Very nice, thanks.
Hi, what brand/model steam cleaner do you use?
The front derailleur is sitting too high. The outer cage should be sitting about 2mm away from the teeth of the biggest chainring when shifted into the biggest chainring.
@SickBiker
Have you tried Nyalox wheels for aluminum instead of the brass wire wheel?
p.s. I really like the music free approach with commentary.
no backround music is perfect, keep going.
Bought a Peugeot Harvard in the early 1990's
in my experience electric tape slides around when the rim get hot. in the summer time. it can lead to a problem down the road. I have hears of people using gorilla tape!!

i don't get it... why didn't you scrape all that grime from the frame? so much work polishing rims and cranks to put them back on a filthy frame...
No frame restoration? :-)
Yes, more videos without BGM!
Get yourself a parts washer and a sand blaster or a media blaster. Ie baking soda
Like seeing old stuff restored
Electrical tape is not strong enough to be used as rim tape, even several layers. Yes it will work for a while, but it won't reliably withstand the tire pressure without tearing through.
I was watching the video thinking how badly I wanted to ride the bicycle.

yea no music video is my fav
Top.top.valeu👍
Good....No Music finally....
You might wanna put a mask while dealing with chemicals and Dust to protect your lungs in long run....
biek is good
no music just tools
I need steam cleaner
dude, you got a fucking big luck with that new headset.
I don't understand how the wheels can be so dirty you'd think this bike has been ridden for many hundreds thousands of km, yet once cleaned they look brand new as if they just got out of the bike shop, no sign of use what so ever
😍😍🤩
You could have used 8 speeds of that 9 speed cassette, and friction shifting.
Hi
Did anyone else cringe when the dirty handlebar stem was inserted?
