Thanks for the recording. Some day these boys will all be dead and gone and these recordings will be all that's left. I sat outside a short-lived club called "Funky Quarters" on El Cajon Blvd in San Diego and heard TOP for the first time in 1972. I was underage so I couldn't go in. I heard Soul Vaccination for the first time. Pretty sure Skip Mesquite was on lead tenor. Don't recall hearing Lenny's signature altissimo register, but I was already a fan of Skip's work with Cold Blood since 1968 so I had to go listen to this new band Skip was playing with. Soul Vaccination gave me such a musical hard-on, I had to stay for the second show to hear it again. Can't think of any other band I'd do that for.

19:30 My favorite TOP song; So Very Hard To Go. Hard to believe that Lonny was only with them for 2 1/2 years. Such a great song. This live version is a little too fast. The version they performed on Soul Train (maybe studio recorded) was perfect.

Pretty sure it feels like whole band took a bump or two before this Atlanta show, because So Very Hard to Go is way too fast! Lol! You’re right about the live version on Soul Train being perfect! That’s the tempo it should be every time!

The good thing was that LENNY was with them for 2 1/2 years as well.
