Curtis Mayfield - Live & Studio Rarities 1972-1974
Some notes from the original fulla (who discovered this amazing collection of tunes, interspersed with interviews from his later years - i'm sharing for the rest of us simpler folk on youtube)...! -
"This was a "dream release" for me when I found it... I had been listening to Curtis A LOT at the time since the Curtom label had rereleased a bunch of recordings with bonus tracks in 2000 after his death. I had never seen any boots of him, let alone any of this quality. I first seeded this show at STG back in the fall of '03 and thinking that relatively few people were familiar with him, I penned an introduction to persuade downloaders to check him out. Little did I know, there were over a thousand fans waiting to grab it. Since others who've reseeded the show since have seen fit to reprint my words, I'm including them once more. The man truly inspired me during his lifetime and continues to today. I hope he inspires you all too."

Save our City .... right now
The density is missing. If Pete was there, even if he wasn't playing guitar, he be percussionist. Mtume isn't there, either. Or Dave...

Greatest rokband of all time. Jim Morrison Absolutely genius. 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
Curtis Mayfield is for eaver best there is no other
"What have they done to the earth? What have they done to our fair sister: ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit her......" Those lyrics more relevant today than they were when Morrison wrote them. An artist, a poet, a shaman whose medium of expression rose out of rock music and transformed rock music. The Doors were authentic, and there's been very, very little of that in rock .
Always love hearing these doors concerts... always wished they would play a few more of the singles as opposed to some of the jams..
This is excellent !😊😊😊😊

Viva Jim Morrison!!!
Rhythmic, beautiful, insightful, daring, and poetically just.
He created hypnotic events. He was electric Rimbaud strolling through TIME
Morrison got bored with singing no doubt.
Wow,did i hear it right?this man like to boink fourteen years old kids? Bill cosbys all star band now makes scence, and the crowd cheeres..unbelive.
A great philosopher.That's Curtis Mayfield
Morrison having a party every concert.
Wished I could have seen them.
Me too that would have been the coolest part of history to see them in the day
It's a great pleasure to hear this...great musicians and a good sound...I really adore Amin Ali 😇👍👍👍
The best band live out there is The Doors.
Amazing
JIM came out after the lights came on...completely sober & wide awake. Said, "Well, the MAN says we gotta close now. " Then just stood there & checked all of us out. Like what you people thinking about now. Very steady charisma & Rimbaud with hands in pockets walking through ALTERNATIVE COUNTRYSIDES
Optical Illusion Ist times 50 Rimbaud
Dark Magus is underrated . Great guitar player. Just say NO, kids….
❤
All the squares go home.
if you never heard doors s live you don t really know about this band
Who says Thank you very much @ 34:36....it ain't Jim...
John struther
One thing for sure about TOP, they always "Came To Play"! Incredible! 👍👍RIP Rocco

Ask the ages, this is a great pairing.
Thank you so much for posting this. I was first introduced to this fantastic bassist from his tenure with Weather Report. Loved him since then but lost track of him. So happy to hear this. Definitely one of my favorite bassists ...
I love all the weird noises that morrison makes on when the musics over. a live performance should not just be a reproduction of the studio recording and the doors were the best at just add libbing their set. amazing, hypnotic, timeless. in interviews they stated that they typically agreed on a few songs to open with and after that just made it up.
THE GOOD OLD SEATTLE COLISEUM
Pure fun...I was there...at least half the audience walked out...Jim said no problem. When the cops cut the power off, at least 300 or so people came up to the stage & Jim was sober as a judge. We didn't even care they had Electrical problems.. it was an event that happened differently 😮
This sounds like a 5 string bass with a low B. Which is said to have been invented in 1976 after Anthony Jackson wanted an extended range bass. So it's either a coincidentally lowered tuned bass or it's the first example of low B 5-string bass.
Jim was FUN...Since he passed away. No more fun like that.. Mystical Clown Boy.. Rimbaud got a rock band now k
🔥
Holding a band and an audience hostage with unnecessary amounts of microphone feedback is selfish and makes Morrison seem like an amateur. Love the Doors but you're not always an artist when you're also an asshole.
Musical performance art at it's highest level...
Been listening to TOP since 1970..........still am !!
I remember recording this memorable concert from the radio. Later on I got to know the picturesque location where the concert took place on a completely different occasion. Here a (translated) part of the way presenter Wim Noordhoek experienced the concert; "August 1970; last broadcast of the TV program Piknik, the 'little Woodstock' of the VPRO (broadcasting organization). On the lawn behind Groeneveld Castle in Baarn, an entire TV crew with cameramen, cable carriers and liaison men was ready for the rehearsal and sound-check, that Sunday afternoon. I was there as a presenter and music contributor, but (initially) no Sly. Some furious phone calls made clear that the band had been spotted at Schiphol airport, where they had caused a collision with their van. After which they were seen in Amsterdam's red light district. Anyway, in the evening they finally arrived to play without a sound-check."
Thank you that’s an absolute fantastic story
Thank <<you
