Description: Mucosal-Associated Invariant T (MAIT) cells play anti-microbial roles during infections, yet the signals controlling their activation remain unclear. We show that during pulmonary infection with Klebsiella pneumonia Type I interferons (but not MAIT cell antigens) are key drivers of MAIT cell responses, by governing the activation, effector functions and transcriptional program of murine and human MAIT cells.
