- Now what you hear is not a test… It’s me learning how to play :) Rappers delight by The Sugar Hill Gang was the first rap song that I ever decided to memorize. Somehow, my Dad knew the lyrics so that’s all I wanted to listen to on the way to 1st grade for about a month. I heard Joe Dart from Vulfpeck jamming on the bass line recently and I immediately got my bass to figure it out. As I was trying to get comfortable with it, it became pretty clear how much fun it would be to cover. The Beatles are pretty much sacred to me so I’ve tried to do, Two Of Us, justice. I think Billie Eilish is doing some pretty creative work in popular music today and Pink Floyd’s, Wish You Were Here, is one of my all-time favorite songs. In the spirit of letting interesting background sounds into the recording like Pink Floyd, I even let Frisco stay in the room and snore along while I recorded it. It may take headphones, but you can hear him pretty clearly in the end.
All of these short videos and lots more like them are on my Instagram account @miamorrismusic - With this IG stuff, I only take a couple of hours to learn, record and post so I can do them right after school on some days. It's fun to be able to do some quick projects of songs I really love or grooves that I think sound cool. I hope you find them entertaining. One other social media I do is Spotify. Streaming music is turning into the new radio station and I’m going to try to work on putting more of my work up on a consistent basis.

I’m 14 years old and I want to be a musician when I grow up. I try to play lots of instruments but the one that I feel most at home on is a drum set. I would say the only thing that impresses me more than a great musician is a great songwriter so I also spend some of my time trying to learn the magic of songwriting. I thought it would help me keep focused on music if I started a drum series where I learned a new song every couple of weeks. After 4 years, it’s now turned into a larger musical search but my goal hasn’t changed. Hopefully, I will keep doing it, keep loving music and keep getting better.

Excellent singing and plaing on all the instruments, Mia.
Of the four, my favourite was "Wish You wew Here", but then it would be, as it's right in my wheelhouse, and I'm a long time fan of their work (mandatory anyway for me, as I attended the same college and David Gilmour & Syd Barret, although at different time).
That song (like much of their later works) is largely a reflection of the fact that David, having been invited by Syd to join Pink Floyd, ended up taking over his role in the band due to Syd's deteriorating mental health.
I won't lie and say you nailed it completely, but it was easily good enough to be an enjoyable listen, and even dedicated full-time lead guitarists can struggle wih David's technique and tone, so for a multi-instrumentalist even coming close is a major achievement - enough for me to want to hear you play more Pink Floyd.
Thank you Phil and I agree with your comment. I was just thrilled to even get in the neighborhood of being able to play something with a touch of the emotion that he somehow conveys with notes. I love how he does it and will always be hunting for things like that.
Mia, you're extremely talented. Your domain of all instrments, the color of your voice or, better said, your voices, and you're still very young. Your future in music has no ceiling. It certainly is not like the drums are for me and I don't expect the guitar will ever be, but it sure is a handy instrument for making music and writing. I'm on a guitar more than anything else if your not talking about gigs so it feels good for it to begin to make the sounds I'm hearing in my head :) thank you very much.

How did I not see this? Once again you have smashed it. Very impressed by your prowess on the bass. People take little notice of that instrument, but it's integral to the whole song. You did a fine job. Loved the Floyd cover. Your voice gets better and the guitar work was spot on. Hats off to the fantastic camera work. Four great covers by one amazing talent. You are already way better than you imagine you could be!

Wow, I came across you while checking out some covers. It's cool to see a young drummer using the platforms available to them. I never had these available to me as I'm a little older than you. Keep rocking and I love now that I've seen you can slay on all the instruments, I tried to learn how to play guitar and keys to late in my career and it always hampered me in the songwriting process, GOOD ON YOU!!!!

That is a very nice comment but I assure you that at least one of my teachers would not agree :) Just in the last year, I've had to begin to make choices about what I should give my best effort to and as much as I like science as a subject, Mr. P was not my sort of educator... I'd be very content with being exceptional at just one thing but I'm a long way from there.
