The Dumog is the Filipino Martial Arts Grappling. Note that the word is used in Dumog Mindanao (south) and in the Visayas (center).
I had the pleasure to train many times with master Frank Sobrino during my various trips in the Philippines. After a course of traditional Arnis Kali, one of his friends arrived and decided to show me the Dumog, the wrestling of the Philippines.
Note that Master Sobrino was part of the SWAT Special Forces intervention in Manila.

Thanks to Master Frank Sobrino for this amazing demo. Master Frank is also trains the SWAT special forces Philippines.
I mean.. ALL of the martial arts that are used in MMA existed long before the UFC was born.. not really a selling point

Some very interesting differences to ju jitsu and to BJJ. It's all in the details! Thanks!
A true Master-Guru of grappling. Very innovative, educational & effective!! Thank your for sharing!!
Grabe!! Galing! Walang kawala ang kalaban….simple ang mga galang…thank you so much Sir for sharing!
I love this style of martial arts its effective on MMA fighter as sport.once use it can create fighter champion..lakay team I suggest for training dumog much better on the ground than other martial arts.
Grappling = grappling and the human body is the same world wide. To all people who think the gracies invented these moves.
The Gracie’s didn’t invented , they made popular over the world the power of grappling on self defense .
Gracie's adapted judo
@@sherlanmamaril7368 by "adapted" you mean promoted only half of the judo curriculum, right?
The gracies did not invent ground grappling but they did researched on it more than anybody.
This is intense and not watered down to just sports, real self defence!!!🤩
I was taught FMA 40 years ago. It is not a sport or for fooling around. You are taught to break limbs and dislocate things. It is real self defense.
@@jaimepatena7372
You too huh? 30 years for me.
This is about neutralizing real violence.
Chicago was already a warzone. The skills I learned is why I'm alive.
@@LeviathanLee Is why i'm alive ^^
With BJJ and various UFC fighting styles it's all about the submission and winning the fight one-on-one.. Philippine dumag is designed to eliminate your opponent this fast as possible if one has to go to the ground.. the beautiful thing about the Philippine martial arts is when the opponent is stupid enough to hand you an appendage like an arm or a leg.. it's no longer theirs... do with it what you want and then give it back.
Sir Frank , i m very proud to have meet you in phyl and Italy. i m very grateffully for your teaching. pugay po!
Filipino Dumog has existed for so many years. If you guys wanna see the original Filipino Dumog Arts then watch Dan Inosanto Dumog video on youtube.
Luar biasa, terima kasih banyak telah mengirim video ini
Some of these are exactly the same or very similar to Catch Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques. Very nice, thanks for posting, these can be very effective in street situations or in the cage/on the mat.
positions weren't great but submissions where very good
well he mentions bjj so he's probably trained in it as well to add perspective/technique to his dumog. i've seen other vids of traditional dumog -- authentic old style dumog is hard to find period and it wasn't as technical.
Dumog seems to be a very practical realistic form in of street grappling. Very good asset of one's overall self defense arsenal.
I have a feeling thats because he got this stuff from modern sub grappling and is selling it as traditional Dumog.
@@MP-db9sw not really its just a famous or analyse well-known martial arts mostly is in province or rural areas mostly in Mindanao and Visayas in Philippines, as a dumog practitioner I cannot call myself a master but since I'm little my grandfather teach us dumog with my brother their no such thing retreat break bone and break another bone their even more brutal technique and many unethical moves more on practical killing maybe that's why it not famous and also he teaches us panuntukan for balance if have backer you can see it in some underground fighting and some very rich guy some mayor, bet in head of fighters, not in Manila it's kinda rare go in Visayas but now it's not pure anymore some jiu jitsu moves are now use complement
Why is it so hard to learn good martial arts. If I wanted to learn this, I'd have to abandon my job go to Davao and learn there. We really need to spread more FMA and it should be taught in schools like kung fu in china or taekwondo in korea.
I mean, Arnis is taught in my school as a part of it's curriculum wala skl
Many of martial art practicioner call themself a martial arts specialist what can I see from their Martial arts is basic or common martial arts that you can see from some others . They don't deepen their knowledge in Martial arts. But to this man I salute his techniques
All the best!!..Master Frank descedant of a true warrior!!many thanks.
napakahusay, superb demonstraion of our very own grappling!
very impresive. original filipino martial arts.
I would love to meet Master Sobrino and learn first hand. Seems like a real warrior!
same
😁👍👏Excellent step by step instructional ground game ilonggos take pride of this art the term dumog literally means to wrestle or to grapple its techniques are similar to judo, greco roman wrestling and brazilian jiu jitsu💪👀🥋
very nice, super fluid. Thank you for showing the BJJ counters!!
not enjoy only but amaze your skills sir ,first time i saw this kind of technique ,
Puwede ko po ba ifeature sa channel ko ang dumog sir?
Interesting you did a couple of things I haven't seen in a while keep it up !pretty good stuff.
Very amazing technique thank you for sharing master. Salute!!!
High level jui jitsu but done easily. Youre really a master
In Panay and Negros islands Dumog was a staple during Fiestas
You are nice instructor the viewers can understand how to paralize locking style to the oponent.
Sir Dumog is individual training in FMA?or it is included when you study Modern ARNIS?
ito na ang pinaka magandang martial arts na aking nakita.....mabuhay ka master frank sobrino
ngaun mo lang ba nalaman? magagaling ang mga filipina pagdating sa Dumog lalo na mga marites. 😅😅😅
He is my Master Frank Sobrino. Our martial arts is called wedo
This is underrated technique 👌
Awesome!
I like it!
I love it!
I want more of it!
I’m currently studying jiujitsu and I’m still a white belt I will also definitely look for a guro and learn this dumog
Just find the right judo jujitsu instructor that teaches you street self-defense and adds MMA and I’ll kinds of other things to it that’s all you need to do what you might be described as a liar why do you want to learn from the liar
Damn, homie just kept dropping so much techniques like he was giving it away.
Very nice, Sir do you have training center here in Laguna Province? I'm interested to learn your techniques in actual.
Master Sobrino is superb! Well analyzed demo!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
amazing techniques..greeting from Indonesia
Galing ni kuya i love filipino martial art
Beautiful artistry. (Also, that's one helluva uke.)
Simply EXCELLENT
Old pilipino pastime exercise called dumog mostly in some province in visayas even children did that.
Mahalo nui for the hand to hand combat demonstration!
Excellent techniques!
Salut master ☺️🙏🏻 thank you for showing us the many more opportunities of this beautiful art.
De cette lutte des philippinnes, il y a d'excellentes techniques ., qui sont adaptables dans des evenements tels l'UFC .
I would love to see his technique on a live roll.
ok keyboard warrior
I have a friend who does FMA and BJJ he's a badass.
@@TuanNguyen-fd9ct this is really weak grappling. Total compliance for him to get this stuff
Agree roll, healthy ano lng nmn po walang masama sa roll , both mtututo
nice very filipino warrior looks more practical than any other self defense
Salamat po sa pagbabahagi ng kaalaman patungkol sa ganitong uri ng sining, pugay po!
Waoww. Respect master 🙏🏻. Lethal n effective 👍
Thank you for this video. Need it to protect myself.
Wow ayus na itudlo nmo sa mga.. kekboxer pilipino kayaga kay bilingun kay lakay team.. Para mag champion sila.. godblss boss
I remember when i was very young having my vacation in remote village of mindanao. Cotabato in the Ilonggos area. Every night they fight Like this. they called it DUMOGAY. i don’t know if that is just a practice or what, but its really scary some of them get blooded and really hurt. Its probably a underground fight. I think this form are from the ILONGGOS.
Really great master
lol. this dude wouldn't last a minute at Deftac or any other gym with legit grapplers.
I like it well but not using if the guard is very aggresive and that's true...May God bless all
may be pure grapping, mma, buno. he will have fight or his opponent.. but a fight dumog with or without weapons, He will destroy your bjj, mma practitioner.. techniques shown here is similar to almost any art out there from bjj, judo, shooto., main difference that he doesn't show is how in Buno it destroys the muscle. Dumog / Buno is designed to fight againts multiple attackers with weapons.. this is just to show practice. just like wrestling, bjj etc
uh yeah... surree there buddy. actually the tecniques shown here are a cheap attempt at shooto, judo, bjj if that's what you mean. without weapons this guy doesn't stand a chance against a Deftac Blue Belt. with weapons, I'd take a Dog Brother style fighter with kali tudo any day over this guy. but again, the point here is that he's trying to pass off tecniques from other arts as Dumog. And his excecution of the moves are crap.
He will destroy any Dog Brother fighters without a problems in live stick fighting, no protection gear at all. Surely you never see him move with a stick. But he does not has time to promote himself on UA-cam, he prefer train and teach and fight if any one wants to challenge him.
Master Ayos May natutohan ako alam na master ang balik
Ganda Talaga pg aralan to Lalo na sa mga habae
This style would blend very well I believe with systema. I have seen some systema ground fighting videos and I do not believe it is apart of traditional systema however systema is a grappling style and in that it is also very unique. Coupled with filipino dirty boxing and MMA and you could have a very deadily fighter. Then again catch wrestling is also a very hybrid style of ground fighting with lots of breaks and movements that can end an altertercation very fast. I wouldn't want to be at the end of a broken arm,leg are what have you from really and ground fighter.
Great stuff great teacher
awsome what escrima system is this from?
Proud to be a filipino coz our martial arts is world class and its greater than the jiu jitsus art! And sad to say that we filipino forgot our heritage and just waiting for rediscovering once again!!!
Fantastic
I want to learn this. sir may ask where your gym at?
Grabi ang galing ituro mo yan sa mga UFC fighter ng Pinas para manatili sila. Champion.
Very good
Amazing master. Where is he teaching now?
Hi, from our latest news, he is leaving in the island of Ilo-Ilo

looks like a modern look on ancient techniques
Sometimes bjj, in others, traditional catch. Is there a book or manuscript before 1900 with that techiques? Its not a critic , just because especific ground fight was not common in martial art before a sport mentality.
I noticed there are a lot of leg locks in the style ,is that true?
Salute syo master.ang galing
thank you sir
OMG SOO FUCKING AWESOME!!!
excellent excercise 🙏🇵🇭 maestro
Very nice!
Great master come to America
Thank You

San ka nagtutuuro?.
What's going on at 3:08? Is it a forearm crank? I can't get it to work while rolling last week.
Jaime Chavez that seems to be very similar to what is called a keylock (type of slicer) in CACC. I also like the first little manuever he did at the beginning of this video
maraming salamat
Galing meron pala pinas nyan panapat sa juijitsu
Galing sir
Ótimo , varias transições.
pugay kuya ! maraming salamat po !
ang galing po!
Good
san po skul nu sa pinas sir
Galing mo idol.
San ang training center?
Is there such thing as a dumog tournament?
In the visayas area before they use to have a regular match or contest their during fiestas
Ito dapat tinuturo natin sa mma fighter natin mix sa boxing
What with the stick emerging as the modern street weapon, take the dumog too as we don't all have 5 years for a Jiu Jitsu black belt. There are similarities though. Almost as good, a lot less time to learn.
just awesome, pugay po
