- "Local Legends" introduces a true warrior and a master of Kali in the form of 2LT. Manuel Prado Jr. Prado is a blacksmith and a retired marine. He talks about serving the country and shares why he became inclined to master Kali, a national martial art of the Philippines. His colleagues later give praises about his bravery, and his military and Kali skill sets. The program then presents the contributions of Prado to the AFP, discussing how his knowledge about the said martial art and his skills in blacksmithing helped troops survive some of their hardest missions. Prado also shows how he creates a bolo, even showing a meteor that he uses in blacksmithing.

And yes alam ko na Sport na ang Kali sa mga schools, but mas majority ang Taekwondo/Wushu

Oo totoo pero ang kali kasi hindi siya pang sports. Hindi maganda yung idea na gagawing sport yung kali dahil mawawala yung traditional way nung martial arts which is used for fighting to death or self defense. Sa japan nga yung Karate nagiging sports na siya eh either sparing match o pagalingan ng execution ng mga forms. Martial arts are use for self defense and for real life fights hindi ito pang competition. Mag kaiba ang point of view ng mga taong nagaral for life or death situations sa mga taong lumalaban for scoring. Alam kong may iba ditong naka experience na ng parehong point of views you can already tell why it is not a good thing for sport.

Kali is badass! My great grandfather was a guerilla who practiced Filipino martial arts in WW2 to defend his hometown. I've never formally practiced FMA but this clip here got me inspired. Thanks!

Some people laugh on our martial arts but they don't know that this is being use to all special forces all over the world because it's practical and versatile. The Kali is not a sports competition it's a self defense for dissecting human being.

Correct. My uncle used it against the Japanese during WW 2.
Let them have this misconception. It's better to guard our martial art from Am*ricanos than to justify its use.
Also it's not a self defense art, it's practically a killing art.
Trully, and they don't even have idea that this art is already proven in war. Our art is not for fantasy entertainment but for reality, those martial arts they love was so badass in movies but in reality was useless and awkward while our art is not so showy in movies but they don't have idea that pintados terrorized china before and kungfu is nothing..
Cause most of people think sometimes like some popular martial arts such as taekwondo or karate or some wing chun they think they are superior to any martial arts but kail is different you use melee weapons you use hand to hand combat unlikely those martial art who more focus on one thing and one rules kail plays more part of fighting and also there are no rules when it's come to kail you fight in life and death you use it to defend yourself it's not a sports it's matter of your life so don't think things that some popular martial arts are good think of good things of what can you achieve.

I would like to spend 6 months to 1 year training with you folks. I was in US Navy so I did not do any serious combat training. I worked in supply and I was only 17 when I joined the Navy. I never been to the Philippines. I have mostly trained in Boxing, Kickboxing, Judo, Brazilian Jujitsu. I am not a firearms expert but I am ok with a pistol and rifle. However I am sure that I can learn a lot from Philippine Marines with firearms. I have no experience with the Knife or the stick. My opinion is that the PI is the best place to train the knife and stick.
lots of kali instructors here in the philippines, but a lot of the true masters are quiet and not easy to locate. that being said you can find some really good ones who teach in public

@@jayar4188 Aware ako dun sa comment ko. May mga blade ako na may talim, at nahiwa nadin yung balat at laman ko. My skin and flesh felt the sharp, live blades I train with too. I know what I wrote.
@@jayar4188 with that said, nahiwa at nasugatan nadin ang balat ko sa sharp na blade na meron ako when I trained in Filipino Martial Arts for 12 years, so naniniwala din ako sa adage ng video.

wow, proud of you guys. its not the weapons you have to denominate but you need also special skills that is needed to conquer any battle before you. sir, you should be teachng in the PMA or West Point for the skills and knowledge you have.

Art is so versatile it can use other weapons. I do remember my guro can use a tanto blade(short katana) and butterfly swords. It is deadly even without the use of the blades.

During the Korean war at the battle of Yudong, the Phil troops were badly outnumbered by enemy forces. There was mentioned of close quarter hand to hand fighting. I wonder if kali was utilized and was kali being taught to the troops at that time.
