If you watched the interview, Master Joseph and his teacher GM Robert Castro came from an Aikido background before transitioning into FMA. So GM Castro blended the Aikido and FMA together and the art evolved from there.

The opponent must be dropped immediately on his side to deprive him of the opportunity to counterattack with his foot and defend himself with his hand. There is no tightness in the parterre, and that is the most important requirement there, etc. etc. Too many mistakes. Standard Filipino circus.
