Official MJC Rules:
1 - Distance must be verified by laser range finder, GPS or google earth and found to be clearly farther than the distance for the challenge that is being attempted.
2 - Each shooter has a maximum of 10 shots within 10 minutes. ABSOLUTELY NO SIGHTERS are allowed. 10 shots in 10 minutes is very generous in most cases.
3 - Shooters may attempt the challenge up to 3 times in a 24 hours period but must rest a minimum of 30 minutes between each attempt.
**Live Event Rules
1.Attempts must be officiated by an LRSU official designated by Long Range Shooters of Utah, LLC.
2. Live attempts must be witnessed by 3 individuals (LRSU official included.)
3. Shooter has a maximum of 10 minutes to take their 10 shots. Time begins when the shooters name is called.
4. Upon confirmation by the official a successful shooter is presented with their LRSU Milk Jug Challenge Decal and is interviewed about their rifle, ammo, optics and experience shooting the challenge. Video of each successful shooter's attempt is posted to the LRSU UA-cam Channel and the Milk Jug Challenge Roster (web address below.)

That is a sweet rifle. I always had semi auto growing up starting with the 1022 ruger then the 556, then my pof 308 . now my drd tactical 338 lapua mag. Will be shooting it for first time Sunday

Love this channel, really. Biggest feedback I have after watching many of your great videos is to develop a quicker communication and shooter follw-up shot to feedback, as well as learning more about reading the wind.
Give corrections to the target vs where they were (example: down .5, right 1.2) and the shooter needs to be ready with the follow up shot. By the time the shooter gets around to making the correction, the conditions have changed, so that then rests on a skilled wind-reading by the spotter.
Once we get elevation bracketed, I just give the shooter his or her wind holds in whatever reticle increment they have, whether it be mils or MOA, and they can break the shot with the continuously-computed wind call on the call.
We'll have to link up sometime. I'm down at North Springs regularly.
LRRPFco52 I’ve gotten similar feedback a lot lately. The trouble is all the RO’s are volunteers and although each is a good shooter most haven’t been trained on spotter/shooter communication or technique. Before our bit shoot in May I’m going to set a standard for them as this has been troubling me as well. It’s confusing for the shooter and makes the channel look far less advanced than it really is.
I like to provide training for both spotters and shooters in precision rifle courses. If you break people down into 2-man teams and have spotter-specific instruction, I found that helps. I had to learn the hard way over many years how to streamline shooter-spotter communication, and a lot of the stuff we did in the military wasted time. I finally broke it down and worked out what the minimal amount of words and statements can be for quick, effective communication.
Historically, spotter feedback has been sanitary, competitive range-based, so it's one of the overlooked disciplines from a technical perspective. RO training for matches would also be a great course for the community, as many new ROs or people getting behind a scope mistake center-punched steel for misses because they see the splash of the bullet spall line in front of the TGT. I know you've seen this for sure by now, probably many times over the years. Little things like how to set up behind a shooter, how to see trace, how to read mirage, and how to get a feel for the complete wind over the terrain within the FOV, are skills I had to learn when spotting.
One thing I've found helpful is to send out classroom or theoretical work online via email before attendees show up to a course or event. I test them on the material before they show up via email so that I know they have grasped the concepts. Maybe a basic RO/Spotter block of instruction could help.

How do you like the SRS? I have a Savage 10 BA Stealth and I'm looking to upgrade when I have the proper accommodations. I'm stuck between the SRS and the Barrett MRAD, I'm leaning towards the MRAD because Barrett seems to be a more stable company and I've heard many complaints about Desert Tech customer service, any thoughts or suggestions?

Right? Holy cow. If I can nail a 66% torso at 1000 with 6.5 creed, why are these guys off by FEET at 1000 with 338?

@@OvertonWindex I've hit a spray paint can at 910 yards pretty much dead center in 2 shots with my AR10 in 6.5 creed. I've also hit milk jugs at 1,400 yards with it... but at 1,585 it became considerably more difficult and i wasn't able to hit it in 30 shots... where as at 1,400 i was able to hit the jug in 3 shots.
The further out you go... the slower the bullet goes and the more wind affects it while it drops. Wind is so huge at ELR distances and every little thing that you do becomes that much more magnified. Hitting the edge of a milk jug at a mile won't hit it at 2,000 and so on.
@@rascalmatt6713 not by feet 8 feet with a 338... Your shots at 1585 become considerably garden because you've gone transgenic.

@@OvertonWindex Was the guy missing by 8 feet? I've had some crazy variances at those distances as well but i was shooting 6.5 Creedmoor which does go transonic around 1,500-1,550 yards. Yet if you listen to Mark and Sam after work.... who shoot out to 5,000 yards... they don't believe that bullets destabilize when they go transonic.
This guy is new to shooting past 500 yards so him not having perfect discipline every shot is totally understandable.

If you listen to Mark more... you know he likes "too fast" twist rates in his barrels, because he doesn't believe you can "over stanilize" a bullet.. a side effect of that philosophy would be over stabilized bullets.
So no wonder he doesn't believe in destabilization past transgenic zones, he's "over stabilizing" the bullet. Haha
Just curious if you've thought about getting a regular telescope (like for the stars) for the video? I've used a telescope for looking at my targets at 500 yards, can see pretty clear.
The image is reversed in telescopes and they aren't built for the condition we shoot in. It's tough to beat my Swarovski STR80.
My Christensen Arms 338 Lapua, I’ve only been able to reach out to 500 yards (not a lot of distance shooting near Sacramento). I have to go to Nevada. Just waiting for the wife to retire so we can leave this place. Leaving to assimilate, not to turn into commifornia.

I laugh at people say they hit a target at 500yrds with a scope. When I was in the Marine Corps, I hit the target at 500 with iron sights 9 out of 10 times on qual day.

Can you not shoot on public land in Florida? Seems like there would a stretch of open land a mile or two long somewhere in the state...
They did have a 1000 yd range in Manatee County Florida, (west central south of Tampa). Most ranges around the Tampa Bay Area only go to 100 yds. unfortunately, but kind of expected due to population density.
How much does it cost to come shoot there?

i mean at 0:54 if you take 20 of those 30 gallon barrels you would get from the 100 to the 200 yard mark, that's not a football field length

the scope is something from NF, someone fired a shot where they talked about it and I couldn't hear the other things too well

ngh we don’t have the luxury of a live feed from the GoPro. Only the view thru the spotter. It’s very difficult to see even with a trained eye with 1000’s of hours of spotting
@@LongRangeShootersofUtah Just had to tease you guys a bit. I can't see hardly anything past about 300 even with a spotting scope. It is a very tough job and takes a ton of experience. Nice Job.

I would love to go do this but I would be pissed there is to many people giving corrections.
At the events we have only one designated spotter who uses a spotting scope with a reticle to call accurate corrections, all others are asked to be quiet unless the shooter or spotter asks for additional feedback. Ivan paid for a private milk jug challenge and it was a little less structured.

I know there is a lot of BS slung here, but my brother has a 1874 Shiloh Sharps 45-70 and I use a 1870 Lonestar Rifle Co. Remington Rolling Block with a Gove underlever, also 45-70 cal. and we shoot black powder cartridge ammo with a 525 gr Brooks mold bullet, in front of 60 grains of FFFG and SPG lube. We shoot at "slow moving vehicle triangle signs" at 1013 yards. Each fired 50 rounds and at the end of it all there were 9 hits in his and 8 in mine. And the misses were close enough that you wouldn't want to be out there holding them up in front of your head. And here is the kicker...OPEN SIGHTS! Now that...is a challenge!! Don't matter if anyone believes it or not. He was there to see my results, and I was there to see his.
Funny I just noticed you up loaded this video on the month and day of my birth, so they tell me. At the equator Earth is spinning counter clockwise at around 1039 MPH, so at the *45 Lat. the rotation is around 520 MPH which is equivalent 750 fps. Let us say all the following scenario targets are placed at 1000 yrds. Can you shoot to the north, impact the target then shoot south and impact the target without much windage adjustment? I ask because when you shoot north the Earth's rotation is coming from right to left but when you shoot south the rotation is from left to right. Can you shoot to the east, make impact then shoot west, make impact with out a whole lot of elevation adjustment? I ask because shooting east the Earth's rotation is coming towards you, when you shoot west the earths rotation is going away. What about diagonal directions NW, SE, then NE,SW, how much windage and elevation adjustment do you make? I ask as these diagonal directions NW, SE and then NW,SE are completely opposite. One last question, What formula do you use to figure in for the coriolis effect? Just a lot of critical thinking here. Desert tech’s ballistic app Trasol.
Had to use holdover and half magnification
He was using the Desert Tech app called Tresol and I checked it against my shooter app. It's quite simple if you have your velocity, barrel twist, height of your optic above the bore and your atmospheric data.

There needs to a shot limit on this challenge. 5rnds at all ranges because everyone's bound to get it if they throw enough lead down range. It's nothing special if everyone's got the sticker...!
And no I haven't tried this "challenge" and won't as there's no challenge if you just sling lead until you hit it.
It’s designed to be an entry level event to get folks out of the shadows and shooting in an event. It’s for fun. If you’re a badass you’ll get it in a couple shots and the average joes might take the 10 shots. I tend to agree with you but we’ve done hundreds of these shoots so I’m reluctant to change the rules mid-game
