      I believe he is using a scope with multiple horizontal cross hairs. They can be custom calibrated to specific individual ranges and your cartridge of choice and loads. You see him looking down at his dope chart on his wrist for which line to hold on.

    I like the last shooter's style; semi-auto and hold-overs. It's a lot quicker, even if he uses more rounds.

    • @dshodaw
      @dshodaw 3 роки тому +2

      I'll take old school any time. The semi-auto is a huge drawback; you're more likely to repeat the exact same mistake. With a bolt-action, you have time to adjust mentally. But I do prefer holds over scope adjustments especially for timed shoots like this.

    The single shot shooter is interesting. He's not adjusting his elevation turret so he must be using some sort of Xmas tree reticle, like a Horus. And when he starts missing his shots are all grouped in the same area. I suspect that in the moment he must have lost track of which hold on the reticle to use as was using something for 450 instead of 500.

    looks like a nice little get up there...and as long as accuracy is on par...the semi-auto shooter, using hold over, had a clear advantage.

    • @LongRangeShootersofUtah
      @LongRangeShootersofUtah  10 років тому +2

      ONEILLOPS:PROSTAFF Agreed. It definitely helps with the short par times. Where they can often suffer is when we shoot very small targets. The consistency isn't quite what the bolt guns have. All told though it is the best option for many stages now that gas guns are becoming so precise and consistent. That's my next build, a 6 AR Turbo or 6 fat rat.

    • @SuperOpinion8ed
      @SuperOpinion8ed 5 років тому

      Not sure why people poo poo gas guns anymore. I have a bolt gun that I hand load for that is 1/2”. I made two ar10 in 6.5cm and with hornady 140eldm they shoot about .5-.6. Makes me wonder why I reload! Saw a study litz did and basically if you have a 1/2” gun then it ain’t your gun if you’re missing. Using ballistic advantage 24” barrels.
      Maybe bolt guns used to be the way, but gas shoots softer, cycles faster, (faster follow ups and easier to spot) and now is as accurate.

    • @jjsemperfi
      @jjsemperfi 5 років тому +1

      SuperOpinion8ed Cost goes up though and cleaning is a pain in the ass with gas guns. I’d much rather be slower and run a bolt gun.

    The shooter at 5:15. That's how it's done. No wasting time messing with the turrets every 100 yards. I shoot 1,000 yards with a $100 Nikon and $400 Ruger and don't even touch the turrets.

  • @LongRangeShootersofUtah

    Jay Trock - because other stages were shot a closer distances. Including a 100 yard cold bore shot at a tiny target, followed by a blind shot. The blind target was on the back of the paper x inches above and x inches to the right or left. You had to correct for your cold bore shot, then dial or hold appropriately to hit the target on the back of the paper that you couldn't see. 99% of us zero at 100.

    My cousin, Tweed, used to shoot Bisley every weekend with a 303 @ 1000 yards, back in the 1970's. How anyone can't hit a target at 1000 yards with a modern rifle and optic, really should rather take up knitting....

  • @TehButterflyEffect

    This is cool. I was waiting for an AR-platform rifle to show up and smoke the bolt guns, and he did. And he didn't do it because it was a semi, he did it because he knew his holdovers. I wish I knew how to adjust my scope as good as those other guys do, but I don't, so I use holdover when I shoot. I can't claim I'm good at it though, because I haven't engaged anything over 300 yards away in years.

    I read an
    article the other day where one of the army marksman team was in combat in Afghanistan.
    Fired his full combat load of ammo and never killed one enemy. Question: what is there psychological thing
    when it comes to shooting at a target and a live human or is it the heat of the
    fire fight that causes the problem.
    Are the people doing the shooting in this video just average people who shoot or are they law enforcement snipers?I shoot the
    army qualification targets at 25 meters; don’t do to bad on the long distance
    ones. The 300 meter my red dot cover the target.

      Gamos are know for their accuracy, yes I have a CFX older model 5,5mm it is accurate but I want more! The problem of my gamo and probably of other models is that the iron sights climb up after some shots, also it shakes the scope a lot (my opinion). I upgraded mine with gas ram 45kg and I was able to shoot poker cards at a distance of 100 meters really good, but if I were you I would buy a Weihrauch. After I entered the competitions world I saw many of my rivals using Weihrauchs and having excellent results. Those are made for competition, not plinking only. So I highly recommend Weihrauch, also Feinwerkbau and Walther. If you can't afford those, you might choose the Gamo and Cometa because they have very good reputation here in Brazil and I believe worldwide also. About other brands I dont know much. By the way, CBC our Brazilian brand made an air rifle caliber 6,0 mm gas ram and very strong named CBC Nitro Six, you can search it here on youtube. I hope that helps you out Ismail Khayam!

      Usually the brain can pick up 2 syllable words better than 1. In my experience, while shooting with ear protection, it seems that the first syllable or even word gets the other persons brain to focus on what is said after. So saying something like "impact 2 mil right" is better than just saying "2 mil right".

      The first shooter is shooting a 300 WSM so his rounds are cooking but the first targets are only at 200 yards so it covers the distance quickly. Could just be how the audio was picked up by the camera. Cameras don't tend to like rifles with muzzle brakes going off just feet away.

      +Brady Huddleston It's a custom rifle built off of a Rem 700 variant of some sort. Could be a factory rem 700 that has been blue printed, etc.

      I would research the two national leagues...The National Rifle League and The Precision Rifle Series. They will have more info on their websites. NRL would be my first choice.
