    Long range shooting is both science and art, it requires a great deal of practice and on top of all that you have wind that is extremely variable. After I achieved proficiency in handgun long range shooting I found using a rifle much easier. This is not Hollywood so yes at those distances you will see some missed shots. After you've mastered shooting at 1 shooting location you go to another and you discover everything has changed.

    The 50 BMG Hornady A-max has the highest ballistic coefficient of any center fired rifle cartridge available. It is the king of extreme long range. Nothing else can beat the range and maximum effectiveness of that rifle cartridge.
    However, it's not economical at the average price of 7 dollars a round. But still, sometimes that is still cheaper than some 338LM ammo.
    Every time I go to the gun store I buy a box of M33 ball and a box of Hornady A-max for my Armalite AR50A1 50 cal.
    It holds 1 MOA groups with military surplus M33 ball ammo.
    Love that rifle to death!

      not having any practical experiance with thieese kind of rifles. mostly hunting guns and ww2 rifles.
      The m200 system uses what? a .408 round? the .408 Cheyenne Tactical. I tought that one beat the .50 at long range due to have a more aerodynamical bullet?

    • @Highplainsdrifter44
      @Highplainsdrifter44 4 роки тому

      Torbjørn Kolven I’m pretty sure the .408 was developed because it carries higher kinetic energy over a distance and is more stable than a 50 at some ranges. It’s more superior to the 50 IMO. Less weight carry ammo as well.

      Agreed about BC, but these guys are shooting 416 Barrett and 375 Cheytac .338 and .50 are used as well. 338 and 300 norma magnum will likely become popular as well now that those loadings are becoming more common

    People always think it’s a big deal to shoot 2 miles. A navy seal once said, his grandpa could shoot that distance and hit the center all 10 times. The only difference is he(the navy seal) said he had the equipment and technology that most people didn’t that could help him land the shots no problem.
    That’s basically what this is. If you know the measurements, calculations, have the right caliber, the right scope, upgraded barrels, bi-pods ETC. then of course, you could make that shot.
    Once you make the calculations, all you have to do is use your Mil dots and relax and shoot. Of course not every average human can’t do this because they don’t have the equipment or money to be able to do this.

    I am ambidextrous, and would prefer to shoot left-handed that's just where my muscle memory is. The thing is that it turns out I am right eye dominant which means I have to shoot right eyed with the left-handed action if I was going to do something like this. It's not so much a matter of which side of your body you use the better it's a matter of which eye you use the better, which conveys the more precise information to the gray matter computer located above your eyes.

    I’m no expert but it would seem to me that the spotters should be lined up directly behind the shooter and one offset or both offset but on either side of the shooter... the first guy had his spotters right behind him and he hit almost every target. The very next guy, his spotters were both well to his right which causes parallax issues and he was missing and that’s what made me think of it... if your in to this sport it might be worth paying attention to...

    The one guy had to remove the muzzle brake to keep it in the weight class. Man that’s got to hurt and give him a case of the yips (flinch because of the anticipation of pain).

    I shoot those short distances with my derringer. 😎
    Seriously though, long range shooting is so cool, so much to take into consideration. Rifle setup, shooting fundamentals, ammo choice, load development, and having a good spotter. The spotter can make all the difference
