    The new Daiwa Saltist MQ is Daiwa's newest entry in to the world of Saltwater Spinning reels. During this unboxing reveiw I talk on how the Saltist MQ enters a lineup that include the new Daiwa Saltiga, The Daiwa BG MQ as well as the Daiwa Cerate SW. These saltwater spinning reels all utilize the once piece monocoque (MQ) body. The Saltist MQ may prove to be one of the best saltwater spinning reels on the market today. Be on the lookout for a daiwa saltist mq vs shimano saragosa sw-a review on the future.

    Nice breakdown. I have fished Shimano most of my life. I did purchase a Saltist 3000, and it's been a great reel. I have since came across Florida Fishing's Osprey line of reels, and i love them. I have the 2500 and 3000 Carbon Edition reels. I watched the announcement from Icast and have been through a few reviews. I decided to purchase a 2500-H and just got it a few days ago. This is a great looking reel and feels solid, but i am with you on the cheap plastic for the drag. Also i don't know if it's because of the smaller reel, but my 2500 does not spin as freely as your 5000 your reviewing. Maybe it's just the heavier reel. What's your thoughts? I can't wait to get out there on some upper slot Reds and see how this reel stands up to my Osprey's. Great video! (Subscribed)

    • @cozab5487
      @cozab5487 2 роки тому

      Very different, this reel feels much lighter in use and is more aesthetically pleasing, the Saragosa on the other hand is bulkier has way more inertia and just has a heavy feel in use, but ultimately is the more powerful and more durable reel of the 2. Id say if you want the reel for lures mostly and plan to cast all day, or generally just prefer a lighter feeling reel, then the Saltist is the pick of the 2. However if you want an allrounder, you baitfish often and maybe want to target slightly larger fish on the same size reel and want it to be able to take a beating, then I'd say pick the Saragosa.

    • @slyarsenal
      @slyarsenal 2 роки тому

    • @slyarsenal
      @slyarsenal 2 роки тому +1

      @Max Schmidt yes I know but Daiwa have done this with other reels in the low and mid end range. The TD black LT only goes up to a 4k size. Certate LT only up to 5k. They want you to look at lower range reels like maybe an Exceler, Tierra, Kix etc that come in 6k if one wants the bigger size. This is because cheaper reels have a higher profit margin and they sell more in volume.

    • @maxschmidt9461
      @maxschmidt9461 2 роки тому

      @@slyarsenal guess you're right, I don't know too much about daiwas mid segment, at least in the small sizes to be honest. But yeah, offerin' only a 5k which is the same as a 6k just with a smaller spool is just marketing, imo same for 8k, 10k and 18k, just make 14k and 20k only would be enough... But sells better to offer 5 sizes even though it's just two reels and 5 different spools ..

    • @slyarsenal
      @slyarsenal 2 роки тому

      @Max Schmidt Various sizes are important though depending on people's preferences, fish they're targeting and how reels balance with rods. I target all types of fish so I have reels ranging from 1k right up to 20k. Frankly I think the certate sw 6k and saltist mq 6k are much better value than if saltiga made a reel in the same size. Any size reel below a 6k, targeting smaller pelagics or smaller fish is just a waste of money imo. I have all the high end gear, but if you asked me if I would spend $900 on a Daiwa Exist for bream or a $140 on a Daiwa Exeler for the same fish, guess what the smarter option would be? I only spend big on bigger reels made for bigger fish. Then again, to each their own, but I just think reels are so well made today, if targeting smaller fish, the low to mid range is more than enough to handle such fish

      I just got the 2500, and i noticed that when i give it a spin it only does a few rotations. It's like there's some drag to it. Is this normal, haven't dealt with that on my Osprey's CE or Shimano's?

    MQ should serve gear box integrity, water protection n easy individual service , but damn it, they made it other way around , no tools included nor gimik magseal oil little bottle, quite simple daiwa their goal is send it back whenever there’s a real problem , torque wise with bigger main gear@locomotive it’s like with smaller one@worm gear osc.and worse u r always short with ur casting , lately i baught myself certate 5000d-cxh , pretty looking reel n that’s mainly why i baught it for. As shimano guy for yrs n blessed with big GTs in many islands , Daiwa spinning reels most of the time r the ones which to fail first

    I was all Daiwa for a while until starting to use a stradic to and vanford 4 months ago, I have a ballistic 2500 that is a little over a year old that just seized up completely on me 2 weeks ago, never have dunked it and maintain all my reels with clenzoil and a light spray down.Somehow salt got into the gears still. Either the mag seal is truly lacking or the rubber seal in the handle shaft is worthless.

      @@Tyler-kw9ce that sounds like a sweet setup. The certate is an awesome reel from what I’ve heard . Shimano advertises their reels differently than other brands stradic fl isn’t advertised as “saltwater” either yet is used by tons for the salt. The vanford has received major upgrades when it comes to the bearings and has x protect like the stradic now and they are advertising it as a light tackle inshore reel, both have been holding up to the salt well.

    Main Gear composition? Zinc is not industry standard grade. Line roller? ratch cover and does it have a full seal? Side plate tool needed and Ferro mag oil for the shaft? Hum. Daiwa wants yearly maintenance as well. Daiwa is like a BMW. Smooth amazing drive but if work is needed break our the heavy duty credit card and feel the bite.

I just rinse off after use and oil line roller/handle knob and she seems to be ready to go. If I was a big time surf fisherman or boat fisherman I would 100% buy a Saragosa because of its IPX8.

      Definitely agree that zinc is an inferior gear material… however, I’d be interested if you’ve ever seen one of Daiwa’s Zinc gears fail?
      I haven’t yet, probably b/c of how massive the gear is, theoretically though I guess it could wear faster than the competition.

    Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.
