Just absolutely blown away by the NZ footage already, got me frothing by the mouth as I’m stuck in Sydney. I would personally go on the lighter side and put 20-30lb braid, and up to 40-50lb fluoro for stickbaiting kings in Sydney harbour. Keen to see what you’ve got for next weeks video.

*Nice reel so far **enjoyable.fishing** recommend used it for about an hour after getting it from Amazon and functioned flawlessly. Very smooth retrieve and the anti reverse is perfect. Feels like a reel that would be double the price.*

Great video , I really enjoyed it .
Question , how much of PE 2 braid , approx
    X 0.23mm can the 3000 take .
    Best estimate ?

Very pertinent timing Byron. I've been researching the Saltist MQ (they're not available retail yet) as another snapper set-up for 10kg soft-baiting here in Port Stephens. I'd be keen to get a comparison of the Saltist v's the Certate. I love my Certates, but boy does it hurt when you lose one... Recently had a snapper (presumably) snap a Samurai Reaction rod below the reel seat with a Certate and take it overboard.

I’ve got an old 4000 from 10 yrs ago and it’s still good. A Jarvis Walker Sovereign Series. Love it. People like you though have changed the way I think about my fishing methods. Used to target Bream and smaller Estuary fish with it and a bloody surf rod! So with the new MQ, by the way saw the Daiwa release show, wow some of those reels!, I’d target bigger Estuary fish Jewfish and Flathead with 20 lb j - Braid. Maybe 30 lb leader.

For my 'big lap of Australia' planned for next year (that I've waited 40+ years for), the Saltist 4000 would be a beautiful 'do it all' reel when space-limited for the amount of tackle I can take.

I would use the reel for snapper off the rocks and the line would be probably be 15-25 lb braid most likely j-braid. Just a question what was the biggest snapper you got?

Awesome looking reel, love the electric blue but even more so... WHAT AN EPIC LOOKING TRIP!!! Great catches and great info, as usual. I'd be looking to spool on some 20lb braid with the 4000 and I think it would work a treat heading into the spring. Looking to do some light shore jigging off the rocks (maybe a Kingie or two) or that dream, trophy snapper down deep.

Initially I was going to match my BG 4000s but may even consider the 3000 like you said with 15 lb braid for the Port Phillip Snapper this season….. looking to get this reel. Been using bg 2500 for years, salt to fresh water. boy daiwa impresses me with how well the hold up. I TRY to take good care of my reels, but Daiwa holds up to the abuse. I have had more penn reels crap out on me. Still like penn, rods for sure, but Daiwa is my go to.
