- I take the new HERO9 Black and Max Lens Mod on a canyon run that felt very much like Pod Racing through Star Wars!
Video was shot in the following settings:
Max Lens Mod ON
Resolution: 2.7K 4:3 - 30FPS
Digital Lens: Max SuperView
Horizon Lock: ON
Bitrate: High
ISO MIN: 100
ISO MAX: 400
WB: AUTO

Wow that's really cool. Never seen a POV video like it to be honest! There's a really unique effect created by the Max Lens Mod when you're accelerating/decelerating/turning - love it! (extra points for using DaVinci Resolve also :D 🇦🇺)

well done! I have an issue shooting with the in camera stabilization because of the need of high shutter/ sharp pixels to work. I'm still using gimbals and NDs to achieve true motion blur. Your post take on it looks great. The render time must have been looooong...
Me too. Went right back to my Hero 4 + gimbal. Plus the audio is fantastic on the H4.

Don’t do it! It has tons of problems and issues. You can’t even buy the Max Lens Mod! Or a Media Mod. The Smart Remote doesn’t work with Hero 9 and neither does the Pro Mic adaptor after updating software. It’s a huge pile of garbage at the moment!

primo sparazza You must not be bright enough to see that the posts are different days. I already ordered Media Mod today as it came available. Still no Lens Mod and bugs galore.
ImageX the update should fix all of that for the most part but I think it ultimately comes down to what you’re using the camera for.. I hear a lot of the issues come from running the camera on the highest settings on very hot or very cold days.. never the less it isn’t an all day camera more so for clips like this one.. which it performed pretty well if you ask me ... the 9 will be my first and last go pro as I only need it for clips 🤙

My usual workflow for Max is Camera => GoPro Player batch export as Equirectangular => AE to frame up, lens correction etc => batch render with however many clips => import all clips to Davinci Resolve and edit from there. So you're doing something similar with the Hero footage as well to get motion blur and lens correction? Now I understand why you don't necessarily use ND filters because they mess up the stabilisation but you can kinda get the same effect this way, nice! Thanks for this, perspective. This little bit of info makes shooting so much easier, adds a bit in post but less to think about when shooting.

Yes, if you don't use the Lens Mod, the normal gopro angle is not as wide, and then there's a setting called linear that makes it like a normal camera.

The Max Lens Mod isn’t even available for sale and neither is the Media Mod. Not to mention, if you update your Hero 9, the Pro Mic Adapter stops working. Then, the Smart Remote doesn’t work with Hero 9. Stay far away from this camera until they fix it. It’s a paperweight for most people right now! Shame on you, GoPro!
Media mod is for sale, but I've seen it get sold out a few times. Max lens mod should be available in a month or so. Not sure about the mic adapter. The notion that it's a paperweight for MOST people is just not true. I'm sorry you're not having a positive experience - hoping those things get rectified quickly. It's an interesting year with pandemic - no excuse, but just to remember what the whole world is going thru.
Abe Kislevitz The Media Mod came back into stock and I was able to order one. No Lens Mod yet and no software update which means nobody can use any external mic at all. Then, they have removed frame rate options for various resolutions which is extremely dumb. I liked to record 2.7k in 30fps on my Hero 8. That’s not even possible on the Hero 9. 🙄Edit: I am thrilled to find out that I CAN use 2.7K 30fps. Only with the Lens Mod though. Very strange..... but I’ll take it!!!
ImageX ImageX just to give you some context, anytime gopro adds frame rates and resolutions (5K) it’s extremely helpful for the engineering teams to try to remove modes that might be redundant. More modes means more testing and more time between public firmware updates just because they have to test every combination rigorously. 2.7K-30 is pretty redundant to 4K-30 these days so I suggest you try moving up to that mode! As for the other issues, they are being worked on, stay tuned.
Abe Kislevitz 2.7k 30fps becomes an option when selecting Max Lens. Max Video mode.
