Upgrading the Tail Lights on my 2019 Mazda3

- Replacing the base model tail lights on my 2019 Mazda3 with ones from the premium model. This is applicable for 4th-generation sedans only; hatchbacks and CX-30s have different wiring. I bought these lights from Mikstore and they appear to be geniune Mazda parts as far as I can tell.

You should also be able to buy the parts from your local Mazda dealership if you so desire. Part numbers are:

thank you and algo's. ive been searching to find if this was possible. except im looking into some aftermarket tails from VLAND and i wasnt sure of the upgrade from base tails to fancy ones. there is one mystery though, i was putting in a tyoe of dynamat yesterday and saw an empty plug in the middle of the trunk. any idea what its for? i have the '19 GS awd sedan

Did you replace any of the weather stripping that came off with the OEM tail light?
Can someone please confirm for me what the BRAKE lights (as opposed to the regular running lights) look like on these units? Does any part of the trunk-mounted unit act as a brake light, or only the outer section?
Question I have a right hand drive 2019 Mazda 3. Would these head lights work for right hand drive models as well?

Great video the steps are clear and really helpful. I am going to order a set of these too for my Mazda 3. The cosmetic upgrades is pretty significant. Would you know if the the 4th Generation mz3 sedans from 2019 to 2021 all uses the same part model?
I'm pretty sure they'll be the same, I looked at the 19 and 21 sedans pretty closely and didn't notice any difference

Here in the US everything except sedan in the very lowest trim come with 18" alloys
Hello! I bought these lights and I just installed them. I noted than the inner left light has three little lights (fog lights) but they don’t seem to work or I don’t know how to turn them on. Do you know how to do it?
Got my sub. Can you show us how to remove some of the chrome interior? Plenty of people would like to wrap all the chrome. I would like to dip them all carbon fiber. Thank you.

Has it given you any error messages during braking? Mine occasionally shows me an error message in the rear light. I turn the car off and on and it disappears but then it comes back and appears eventually.
The only thing I would have done different is after you plug it in check it to make sure it’s plugged in properly and the bulb isn’t burnt out.

I believe that specific site only carries them for sedan. I have heard that the hatch lights aren't plug and play like the sedan but am not sure about the cx-30
I've been looking at these from that website! Was thinking about ordering one for my 2020 base model but wasn't sure if they were cheap knock offs or not. How fast did you receive it? And how was it packaged?
Also when I asked about bulbs, they said it was full led so there's no bulbs but what happens if one ring starts to go out? How do you replace it then?
im in australia which i ordered it on 05 Nov 20 and its ETA is this week. it really depends on stock's availability re ETA.
Ordered mine in early August and came in a couple days before this video went up. Pandemic has slowed shipping down a lot.
That is how led lights are now, if it goes out then it goes out. The whole tail light would have to be replaced. Full LED lights are more durable then bulbs.
Have you thought of upgrading the fornt lights as well?
It costs nearly $1k and the visual difference is subtle so I'm not willing to spend the money on it
Hi I bought this one as well for my lower trim sedan. Question did you ever encounter any tail light malfunction error in the dash? Been encountering it from time to time (turning on the engine or when the lights automatically turns on)
I did not. You might want to check that your connections are all snug

Yes but the parts are really expensive
How has it held up in the long term? Any errors on the dash, leaking or moisture collection?
I actually ended up trading the sedan for a hatch :/

Yes! I'm currently building my first house so later this year there will be some videos about that and getting garage set up then I'll be able to do some stuff on the cars again
you have any future upgrades planned for the car??
for this car I'm getting the hood and bumper resprayed and ppf'd. Anything after that will depend on what aftermarket parts come onto the market

Not sure what would be involved. That feature is standard here in the US

Nice video. I noticed that these tail lights declares a voltage of 13.5v, does your old tail lights report 13.5V or 12V?, i just bought one set from the shop, but i´m afraid because of the voltage, my car which was manufactured in Mexico has on its tail lights 12V instead of 13.5.
My original lights have 12V labelled on them but I would expect 13.5V to still be well within tolerances for these LEDs
@@halomakes Good man, i´m feeling better now that you told me your car had 12V lights, now we both know that Mexican and Japanese cars have the same electrical system regarding the tail lights. Thank you. :D

@@davidorduzgomez7473 totalmente satisfecho, funcionan perfectamente por más que digan 13.5V, los conectores son iguales y la batería puede con ellos sin ningún problema o sin reportar error.

@@halomakes Do you know if installing the headlights is as straightforward as installing the rear lights? I think I'm willing to fork out the money if they're not so difficult to install that I have to hire someone else to do it.
I don't know the process in detail but I'm pretty sure it involves at least removing the front bumper

Question, is there still a fog light, with these new ones at the inner side on the left. (as it is with the original ones)? I need to know, as it is mandatory to have a fog light in Belgium (Europe).
I just installed them, and they have a fog light on the left side.. Ik denk dat je wel Nederlands praat, Ik heb ze net geïnstalleerd en er zit idd een mistlicht aan de linker zijde, het installeren duurde een uurtje het is voornamelijk bekleding losmaken, de lampen kun je zo overstekkeren. Ik heb wel even de accu los gehad na het installeren, ik kreeg een foutmelding op het dashbord van de knipperlichten, dat was weg na de accu reset.. Ik ben er super blij mee, het staat hem erg mooi!
@@TheDutchGuy Hartelijk dank voor je reactie!! Goed om te horen dat er idd een mistlamp aan de linkerkant zit en dat de installatie zelf goed te doen is. Ook nog dank voor de tip m.b.t. de foutmelding na de installatie! En natuurlijk de bevestiging, dat ze erg goed staan! Ik ga ze deze week bestellen.
@@user-kd2uh1xw1w Geen probleem! Ik was ook opzoek voordat ik ging bestellen, uiteindelijk heb ik ze maar op de gok besteld in de hoop dat alles er op zat wat in de eu verplicht is. Ik heb ze ook besteld bij mikstore zoals de jongen in de video. Ik heb er ook covers voor de middenconsole en de raamschakelaars bijbesteld, het zwarte hooglans liet nogal snel krassen zien, en dat is daarmee mooi weg gewerkt. Dus heb je krassen, dan is dat ook een aanrader, het past allemaal mooi in het interieur.

@@TheDutchGuy Ik had eerst een hele tijd op Ali express gekeken, maar had toch mijn twijfels. Hoewel ze daar flink goedkoper zijn, liever iets meer betalen en zeker kwaliteit ontvangen. Het feit dat het de originele Mazda achterlichten zijn, vind ik ook wel een goed argument in deze video om ze bij mikstore te bestellen.
De spullen voor de krassen, middenconsole en de raamschakelaars heb ik wel bij
ali express besteld, op zich prima geleverd en passen goed.
Ik ben nu nog bezig om mijn 122pk motor te laten modificeren (geen chiptuning), maar de bestaande configuratie aanpassen door een betrouwbare Duitse tuner, die niets anders doet dan Mazda Skyactive motoren, naar 170 PK
M.a.w. de begrenzing die op de motor zit te laten verwijderen. De 122 PK en 150PK en 170PK zijn 100% identiek aan elkaar, alleen softwarematig afgeknepen door Mazda. Het is verder een hele fijne en mooie auto om in in te rijden, alleen de airco werkt niet zo geweldig vind ik, maar daar hebben veel mazda 3 bezitters 'last' van, lees ik op de diverse internationale forums.

No, the wiring for hatch is not plug and play. I might try to get the parts and see if I can figure it out after I move

You can check fine print for your region but here in the US it's power train only after the first year so it doesn't really matter. I can't imagine putting mazda parts on would affect anything, especially something as superficial as lights
Those part numbers are for Japan built models? Most of us in the United States where built in Mexico
I live in Indiana and my car is Japan-built but I don't know how normal this is. I wouldn't expect there to be a compatibility issue with a mexico-built car for any reason though
@@halomakes right, I added the price of all the tailights for the made in Mexico cars and it adds up to 770ish...it is what the websites states before the discount. The “for Japan made” the signature tailights cost 1100 in total. I don’t know why it is more expensive

unfortunately the hatchback lights are not a plug-and-play upgrade, I believe some wiring changes are needed and the parts are less readily available

Hi I just got a 2020 Mazda 3 hatchback, I found a website where I can get just the two Inner ones since those are the ones that don’t turn on, would I have to still get the remaining outer 2?
