    During the winter months I'm a ski salesman...here's a few things from my experience:
    - A big part of selling is listening and reacting. You've got to leave room for the customer to personalize what you're selling to what they are looking for. It often works best to paint with broad strokes early...don't be too specific (at the beginning). As you get feedback, you need to adjust on the fly.
    - Don't provide too many options. It's important to give options (that have quantifiable differences), but if you give too many they'll be overwhelmed.
    - Sometimes sequencing is the key. After talking to a customer I sometimes will know exactly what ski they should be on, but I won't have them demo that ski first. I'll mention the benefits of another ski or two and recommend they start there. The idea is similar to putting someone in a pair of shoes that don't fit their feet, have them walk around in them (they won't be comfortable). Then they'll put on the right shoe and they'll notice how much better it fits. It's the same with skis...or anything really.
    - Look for opportunities to save them some money while still maximizing revenue. This involves having a good feel for the person. You can sometimes sell a person an item they weren't even considering buying if you find a way for them to see the deal. I might discount the ski bindings by a substantial percentage, but we're still making money on them (and we're still making a great profit on the skis themselves). It's not the absolute maximum product, but if it's something we've got a high inventory on we need to get it out the door.
    - Know your product. Whatever you're selling you've got to be able to talk about every detail involved with it at the drop of a hat (don't bombard the customer with all this though). Again, you've got to personalize the sale. You're just two people talking about this item...each customer will have a different level of knowledge about the item. Find ways to shape the aspects of the product into what they say they're looking for.
    - Reinforce the sale. After the sale is still very important. They need to walk out the door confident in having made a smart decision.

    I’m currently in an inside sales position (B2B) and although I do believe extroversion can help, it’s not particularly necessary. Being more of an introvert & having strong interpersonal communication skills is what’s currently allowing me to succeed.

    • @shurnbrendt7581
      @shurnbrendt7581 4 роки тому +3

      Same here. Being able to recognize your comfort zone and push past it is the key. Extroversion definitely is the stereotype, but if the product or market requires deep research, very tactical approaches, and understanding, introversion can be a plus in some ways. One of the best people on our team is an introvert - does very well because they listen well, do tons of research, and carefully prepare for every meeting. Oh and their clients don’t feel like they’re being sold to so much as they’ve found someone trying to meet their needs.

    My friend Ben is the best salesman I've ever seen. He has a happy no matter what affectation. I'm good friend with him and his brother. The brother and I and his whole family tbh look at him and are baffled as to how he is so happy. He doesn't choose it, seemingly. We've asked him and he's told us he doesn't choose it. So as far as constitution, that's what I see that it takes. The skills came naturally to him, but he has almost a decade of practice now., So he's a real killer.

    (opinion) In a world with a lot of people doing the same thing you do, you have to be extremely predatorial and strong in order to personally get ahead of them, get people to do the things you do and spark interest in your individuality and ideas. You either aim for everything that exists out there or you don't get involved with it.

    • @ryanf7821
      @ryanf7821 4 роки тому +3

      I do agree, however, if you choose to be extremely predatorial, you automatically negate the possibility of friendships with those who may be able to help you... I am an actor, and I have become friends with some of the others who go out for the same roles as I do. I keep an eye on them to “Trust but Verify”, so we usually don’t have problems. Samuel L. Jackson says about the same in his Masterclass.

    Sales is about people. If they like you, the chance of buying from you increases dramatically. If you have a product they like, want, or need but they don't like you, they'll go somewhere else. The best salesmen can take 5 nos and still have the customer happy and feeling like they are in control. Sales is what make the world go round. You can produce the best products in the world, but if you don't have a good salesmen to sell it, it'll just collect dust.

    Art and music really should not created for money, particularly for art pour l'art. Artistic aesthetic should be applied, such as in architecture and city planning which is totally miserable in aesthetics and creates ugliness everywhere where beauty should be. Marketing is totally artificial and is a totally false reflection of beauty.

    • @1nzi
      @1nzi 4 роки тому +1

      Art and music should not initially be created for money. But over time if people are willing to listen to or view your art/music there's nothing wrong with marketing. Album cover art is marketing. Imagine a band album without any cover art? What about band merchandise? These aspects are essential in keeping musicians/artists in the business. If they can't feed themselves they can't create art.

    • @juliettailor1616
      @juliettailor1616 4 роки тому

      @@1nzi There is no longer album cover art in the age of internet (little of that could be considered art anyway and band merchandise is a pretty awful concept) and if you are a band you should probably 1. concentrate on playing locally and 2. as JP says, keep your day jobs. Music is even more competitive than visual art and to listen to the radio it's pretty obvious that success has nothing to do with talent. (Radio play, however, is really something you should be aiming for.)
      Marketers cost more than they are worth. They never market a product because they believe in it.
      If you are doing it for the love of the music then just play for the people who want to hear your music because the chances of your making a living from it, even if that were desirable, are pretty much zero.

      @@welissoncanto Marketeers are worth their money, I just don't believe art is a product which should be marketed or commercialized. Once professional advertising is involved it matters more how slick the marketer is than the value of the product. There really isn't that much truly good art out there anymore anyway.

      I'm sorry.. What? So when you are entertained that has no value?
      I m cracking ribs.... So all art and entertainment and more ( nonfiction information) should be free to make you happy and happier? What about those who spend their time creating ? They should go homeless and hungry? Then where would you get your art and entertainment and information? It would die.
      Get the f outta here.. 🤣🤣🤣

    A) Theres millions like you.
    B) People dont give a shit about you or your art.
    C) People are not willing to pay for art. (Example: Spotify/Netflix. $5 per months max for infinite amount of music/movies)
    Conclusion: Stupid fuckin industry.

    If you do what you love for a living, you’ll end up hating what you loved.

      False.
      That's so damn false. Dying doing what you love would suck. Lol
      But who makes a living at what they love? A hell if a lot people. That's why college grads are successful and why people are motivated to do anything at all. Who is motivated to make a living doing what they hate? How long can you sustain your life with that?
      Lmfao...

    The interviewer should be quiet more.

      Why? It's rare to hear Jordan Peterson in a non-combative conversation of this sort. His contributions are helping push the conversation forward. A good interviewer isn't necessarily a passive one.
