    This man has changed my life. As a single mother of 2 beautiful kids, he helped me find direction and purpose to be the best I can be for my children. Since his 1st time on Joe Rogan and all the other conversations he's had with Joe, Jocko Willink and Jordan's own videos. Life changers.

      Hi Kathleen, profound comment. However can I challenge this somewhat? I've been listening to Rick Warren's daily hope sermons every day for the last 6 months (don't know the exact time) and rereading Purpose Driven Life.
      You are 100% correct that we should turn this over to God, but we should pray about what we want. And I think this is the process of finding out what we want.
      I recently went through a redundancy at work, and had very stern conversations with God. I needed Him to work a miracle in my life and I worked very had to give Him all opportunity to do it. I was very specific about what I wanted, worked hard to get it, but realised in the end that it's in God's hands. Let go and let God. We have a responsibility to try and be the best version that God made us to be. Write that down, what you want, what you think is possible. Work hard to get it, but let it over to God.
      I know you comment here is 4 years old, so my comment is out of the blue here, but just feel I needed to write this down. So if this doesn't resonate with you anymore, I completely understand. God bless.

    The justification of my goals is something I am struggling with. My current perspective tells me: "The only reason I would like to pursue this is so that it helps me in a materialistic or otherwise selfish sense". I can't wrap my head around why pursuing ones goals would be good for the community at large or why they would be good for my character development. Does anyone have some insights to share on this?

    • @philipdrozd951
      @philipdrozd951 5 років тому +7

      Because to reach your goal, you will have to get your life in order. That includes learning patience, self confidence, speaking up for yourself and others and much more. Ultimatively this helps your family because you're suddenly able to take responsibility and be helpful and useful. On a broader scale it helps even certain people outside your family because they interact with you in a reciprocal manner

    Jordan Peterson's advice - unfortunately, for me - has just about destroyed me. I'm now out of work and have had an invisible breakdown of sorts. I'm not blaming him but there's something in his general corpus which I've had a severe reaction to. I tried to listen to him but I have failed. I tried to map-out a vision and bear my own suffering by forming an intimate relationship with somebody in order to eventually get married and have children - so that I could manifest the highest possible good. However, I have failed. All of the things which sound great on paper and in speeches like this have revealed a tremendous, almost fatal (i.e. suicidal ideation) within me. It's just about broke me. I wish I had the intellect, attitude, spirit or whatever to have not completely messed my life up, but my resistance to putting aside my own selfish ways has highlighted how unfitting my entire essence is on Peterson's advice. I'm not saying he's wrong. I'm wrong. And yes I know this isn't an example of "stop saying things make you feel weak".

      You can never completely mess your life up. In fact, it is not your life, you belong to Jesus Christ. Turn to him and he will make you a new life. I worry Jordan is leading people astray, in that he has convinced many that we can follow Jesus as a symbol and not as God. If Jesus was not resurrected there is nothing left in the philosophy that cannot be articulated in an atheistic worldview. We cannot save ourselves from our own sin, Jesus must do it for us.

      You can do it with the help of your Creator. Just get started. Now.

      The important thing to remember is to keep moving and make the course changes as you learn. And yes get a real relationship with Christ. Symbol or God make it a point to know Scripture and walk with Him. Starting out is the toughest part man. I've been going through something very similar. It's a precarious thing to unhinge the things not fitting of ones personality and to choose to take responsibility for ones destiny. Peterson has the Spirit of Christ and Truth with him though he has to walk carefully so as to not scare off those who are repelled by typical Christianity. Keep going my friend and know there are other people who are just beginning.

      I have always believed in bouncing back. But repeatedly, I've faced breakdowns. And now my optimistic resilience and suicidal tiredness coexist like DNA helical structure.
      What I'd like to say to you is, if you kill yourself, it's all over anyways, so fight till your last breath. But more importantly, fight smart. Learn and evolve continuously. Be as selfish as possible without harming anyone.
      My motto is, if I have to die, I must know I tried everything.
