I grew up with it and my Dad made it for my Mom's 16th birthday in 1964. It's an awesome recipe... especially with a better frosting.

I absolutely LOVE Dylan Hollis. I watch and re-watch his videos. His since of humor is fantastic and of course being 70 years old I am familiar with most of his recipes. What's fun about Dylan's recipes is, I was a teenager in the late 70s, learning how to cook in the early 80s. A lot of the recipes he does were some of my first things. I mean. I didn't even know why not wise. Imagine my disappointment when I found out it was just scrambled eggs. I cut my teeth on things like wacky cake. It was The Depression recipes any kid could make easily and have it turn out. I had a friend who love to make Manny's cake and always brought it down lunch. She would share. Many of the things that he laughs over, I think, you need to try before you say too much. Because that stuff's good. I have a quiche recipe out of the late 70s early 80s? It has a secret ingredient. If you put it in today's recipes, people would balk like Dylan does. But the truth is? We knew stuff. We really did.
My sweet hubby had sat and listened to me binge watch Dylan’s videos so many times that he ordered the cookbook for me! He knew I loved Dylan and his humorous takes on recipes and that I have my own love of baking. I received it on July 26 and immediately sat down and read it cover to cover. It is an EXCELLENT BOOK and I encourage everyone to get one for themselves!❤❤❤
Dear Dylan, I must admit I'm an old woman, and get a lot of scam phone calls. I like to mess with them. If they are particularly persistent, I cue on of your shorts and let you yell at them about 'EGGIES." Works best it if it was a recipe you hated!

I love him so much! He also loves antiquity and making historical recipes. I started watching him because he was making things my grandparents & great grandparents made but stayed with him for his sweet, endearing personality, and intelligent, quick-witted sense of humor. ❤ Of course I bought his cookbook & have already read through it. 😅 It is beautifully well done.
I can personally recommend the Wacky Cake recipe. I grew up with it as Cockeyed Cake (no idea where the name came from. Maybe because you look confused at the ingredients list because its missing eggs milk and butter in a cake and you’re confused) it is a Very Very good chocolate cake. Rich moist and super easy. Definitely worth making!
Wacky Cake is the first thing I learned to bake in the early 60s as a kid. I guess my mother trusted me to make it since if I screwed up it didn't waste a lot of ingredients 😋 I remember it as being very moist!
I've made wacky cake for 30 years, except instead of 2 cups of cold water I use 2 cups of cold coffee, it enhances the chocolate taste, it's absolutely amazing 😋

I've got my copy of Dylan's book. Love it. Also love Dylan's sense of humor. I grew up being taught to cook and bake by my 94 year old grandmother in the 1970's. She taught by the pinch of this, some of that, bunch of the other thing and cook it until it's done method. I still use those techniques today. So instructions from cook books that use those measurements are easy for me to do.
I learned from my grandmother and mother in the same vein. My grown kids have been copying all her old recipes and are saying “there’s hardly any measurements in here!” We just wing it until we get it right then write that down.

"Whacky" cake, if I remember correctly, is also called "Poormans" cake. It's all on what area you are from. If the cake has vinegar in it YES, it is Vegan. My niece was able to enjoy a real cake with her allergies. I've made it for YEARS; she is now 20 and I made it before she was born. I got the recipe from my husband's aunt which she got from her Grandma. "Depression" babies.

I am so happy i found him! I love the recipes and 'if they turn out', lol. I think the funniest thing is some of the recipes he hates, are the ones i grew up with and are still at family gatherings! Lol! His humor is my humor, very silly and off the wall and i love it. Makes me happy 😄
Thank-you for having him on your show. I am always amazed when I watch this man. The Tiktok recipes which are high energy, to the longer UA-cam videos where he explains the science behind some of the baking and now this show showing him as such a gentleman. He is someone that I would love to meet, because he just seems like such a laugh.

I came by Dylan's videos quite by chance via Facebook pop-up. I am addicted to his videos because he is serious about recreating but throws in humor about the directions. Also, his unrehersed reactions tear me up. 😂 I have many of my mother's original cookbooks from the 1940s, and they are amazing. I just love Dylan. He is an old soul. I genuinely believe he has been here before. I love his hilarious dry humor. I love watching him taste strange recipes, that he expects to be inedible, but turn out surprisingly delicious. I love it just as much when he takes a bite of something gross! 😂❤❤

I am so happy i found him! I love the recipes and 'if they turn out', lol. I think the funniest thing is some of the recipes he hates, are the ones i grew up with and are still at family gatherings! Lol! His humor is my humor, very silly and off the wall and i love it. Makes me happy 😄

Thank-you for having him on your show. I am always amazed when I watch this man. The Tiktok recipes which are high energy, to the longer UA-cam videos where he explains the science behind some of the baking and now this show showing him as such a gentleman. He is someone that I would love to meet, because he just seems like such a laugh.

Also, his unrehersed reactions tear me up. 😂 I have many of my mother's original cookbooks from the 1940s, and they are amazing.
