Yogurt and cold water with salt, coriander, cumin, and some chat masala is a big thing in India during summer. It's called chaas or buttermilk. It's quite common in South India due to the heat. You can even find the packaged versions in supermarkets and stores all over. Many people actually prefer buttermilk over Lassi in India due to the savory and refreshing nature of buttermilk compared to Lassi

So so sooooo happy you tried doogh!!! I prefer with dried mint . Some iranian restaurants serve it in copper cups which I think makes it feel extra cold. And some add dried lime powder as well as rose petals. Not many British guys like this drink, so I am delighted you do! It is certainly good for your digestive system and liver as opposed to other canned drinks. Apparently consuming yogurt with lamb means your body absorbs less fat from the lamb due to the calcium in the yogurt. So great with a kebab!!!
When it comes to burgers I'm with George Motz. "Burgers don't need to be extreme or extravagant. It's a burger." Smash burgers apply to this as well. Why do people feel the need to add two patties to something that's supposed to be a quick meal on the go and back to work. If I eat a double smash burger I feel like there goes the rest of my day...I'm gonna nap and nothing will be accomplished. Now people want to add it to a pie!? No...too much and Jesus wept that's a ton of carbs.
I've been making those burger pies as sliders for 30 years now. They are always the quickest apps to be eaten at every party. I've also used meatballs, omelletes, sausages and chicken burgers as stuffings.
I am from Bulgaria. In the Balkans and Turkey you have the drink Ayryan which is Yoghurt Still Water and Salt. When it is really hot you sweat a lot and lose electrolytes. The cold liquidy milk and the salt just hit the spot in the heat. Sometimes I prefer such a drink to water alone. I will be trying the sparkling water and mint version - sounds delicious!
Quick tip! Scrunch the parchment paper first, then spread it out; this keeps it from rolling up when you lay it out on a pan sheet. Bonus: if you need parchment to go up the sides of cake pan; brush a bit of oil on sides of pan. The parchment paper will stick to sides easily
The scaling fish conversation reminded me of when my SIL rented a swanky cottage for the whole family and on the first night my FIL cleaned some fresh caught fish in the kitchen 😂
I have been enjoying your video a day. I understand the yogurt and sparkling water. My mom used to give me ginger ale and milk when I wasn't feeling to well. If you were older and had seen the Laverne & Shirley show you would know that Laverne ofyen drank Pepsi and milk.

The Doogh made me think of Korean Milkis lightly fizzy yogurt drink. though what you were making definitely less sugar. That carrot! Did not expect it to work so well. Thank you Ben for doing it the cheffy way and then being gobsmacked when that carrot did it better and no wearing scales anymore. Your face Ben told it all. And then the "follow fast" while descaling that sea bass, so cute. That didn't seem to take a ton of effort either. When using the back of the fish, it seemed like it took some effort to get the scales off. Fun attempt Baz, but Jamie is still the TikTok king. but 3 outta 4 isn't bad, best luck next time. We win regardless
Back in the day I worked behind a meat & fish counter in a supermarket and I was constantly descaling and deboning fish. No matter how much I would scrub I would always find rogue scales on my hands and arms. It drove me mad!
The amount of late night cheese burger pies I had during my university days is quite embarrassing....but i loved every one of them. Its great to see some more SA content on the channel!
Regarding the fish scaling, use a spoon instead of a knife. It works similarly to the carrot thing, and it's sturdier. The spoon catches a lot of the scales and keeps them from flying everywhere
I have been making burger pies like that for years. Also when I make my burgers from scratch, I use beef mince or lamb mince, finely chopped onion and garlic, with chopped gherkins and Dijon in the burger, with grated cheese in the mix, and serve with fried onions and ketchup and mayonnaise and either in the pastry or in pitta bread. The lamb ones get parsley and fresh mint in too.
Hi guys! Dried mint is traditional and you can put a sprig of mint on top to serve. Definitely add salt too...some people garnish with a dried rose bud to make it pretty. It's nice to use a sour strained yogurt for that zing! Such a good drink alongside a good Persian kebab and rice dish! ❤❤
I'd imagine that carrot trick could be handy when you're out camping, too? Especially if there's young kids along, and you want them to help with food prep but don't trust them with sharp knives yet.
The cheeseburger pie sounded delicious. It's not a TikTok trend, but one tip that I picked up this year was adding a dollop of mayo to scrambled eggs or an omelette. I gave it a go and my omelettes are so much better.
I grew up in a rural area in Australia known for cattle farms and cheese. The local bakery did cheeseburger or parma pies as far back as the 70s. It's such a great concept.
The Burger Pies we have here in South Africa normally have a cooked tomato relish inside the pastry, which will give you that tang you are looking for. Always a favourite and normally are sold out quick.

As a South African, I appreciate that you love our 4am, after the club snack food, it's a favourite go to after a big night out. CHEESE BURGER PIE
❤
I told my wife about the burger pie and we are 100% trying them. They look amazing
Burger pie? What is not to like. I will be trying this one for sure. Merry Christmas everyone!
Now make a slappy out of the cheeseburger pie....
Thanks guys for these 24 videos. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all and your families.
"...that video is linked to an app, that you have to sign up for..."
Hmmmmmm... where have a heard that before??? 🤣
16:57 youve lost moisture from the cheese, i think its been dried out too much it wouldnt have been able to puff up in the oil
Video a day is in my top 5 favorite things about the holiday season! Though that post-xmas drought gives me Sorted withdrawal and it's rough.
Ben over here in Texas we have a saying "If it looks stupid but works it aint stupid." The carrot descaling is insane but it works
I've been making those burger pies as sliders for 30 years now. They are always the quickest apps to be eaten at every party. I've also used meatballs, omelletes, sausages and chicken burgers as stuffings.
OH MI GOSH! BARRY, I AM SO FREAKING PROUD OF YOU FOR PROPERLY PRONOUNCING "DOOGH."
I'm from Iran and I'm so happy you guys finally tried doogh
“You couldn’t do that with a knife” !! - that made me laugh way harder than it should 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The scaling fish conversation reminded me of when my SIL rented a swanky cottage for the whole family and on the first night my FIL cleaned some fresh caught fish in the kitchen 😂
I have been enjoying your video a day. I understand the yogurt and sparkling water. My mom used to give me ginger ale and milk when I wasn't feeling to well. If you were older and had seen the Laverne & Shirley show you would know that Laverne ofyen drank Pepsi and milk.
As kids we'd make poor man's milk floats adding milk to pop/soda. It kind've curdled but we enjoyed it. (I'm also of an age when Laverne & Shirley would've been about). 🥛
The cheese crisp needs a revisit.
Barry might yet take the crown.
Haha all hail the petrol station garage burger pie!! Best munchies fix after a night out. I never knew we were so unique?!
sparkingling Water (Lemonade usually) and Yogurt is something I've been havung from a young age. My mother used to do it as a substitude for a few day old Camel's milk in somali cuisine
South African, here... I didn't know the cheeseburger pie is kinda our exclusive thing. They're easy to find wherever pies are sold, but as a more expensive 'premium' option over the usual variety. They make great hangover cures :D
6:19 It’s like how Starbucks sherlocked Haldi Doodh by calling Turmeric Latte.
Also, ‘Doogh’ reminds me of ‘Doodh’.
6:42 So nice to see Ben reunited with Mint. WE MISS THE SPRIG OF MINT
We have a traditional dish called ab doogh khiar which is doogh with walnuts and cucumbers and rosebuds, and a lot of crushed stale naan and herbs
Suggestion: Barbecue sauce as a dip for the burger pie
13:32 "What would Bugs Bunny say" 😂
This is a good episode and I am going to try the cheeseburger pie.😁 Wishing the entire team at Sorted a very Merry Christmas and a blessed new year.
The amount of late night cheese burger pies I had during my university days is quite embarrassing....but i loved every one of them. Its great to see some more SA content on the channel!
Merry Christmas guys have a great one and thank you for this month full of videos ❤🎉
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed the extra video and Merry Christmas to you too!
That dooch drink is relatively close to ayran - a typical Turkish drink.
Hi from South Africa, great to see some of our food on here.Love you guys great videos thank you.Merry Christmas 🎄
It's such a great concept.
the idea of fizzy dairy freaked me out at first, but ever since I started mixing yakult into drinks and cocktails, I totally get it!
0:14 Barry-(Abby) Normal
The Burger Pies we have here in South Africa normally have a cooked tomato relish inside the pastry, which will give you that tang you are looking for. Always a favourite and normally are sold out quick.
All I want for Christmas is a low effort video where we can get to be a fly on the wall of Ebbers’ kitchen while he cooks his actual dinner for that day, just talking about whatever he feels like with whoever. Nothing to prove, nothing to teach, just vibes
I’ve been watching a few old videos and came across the reviewing cookbook series. I would recommend you guys review the South African book titled Indian Delights by the Women’s Cultural Group.
I would love it if you could get one of the tons of fundraiset/church/ladies group cookbooks from several different areas of the country and pick several representative dishes in a series. My mum and I tend to have the same cookbooks in our collections, and we may have some extras from here in Eastern NC. If we do have duplicates outside of our collections, I would gladly send them to you....
Back at home we have a drink called "Gespritzte Buttermilch". Which is a special dairy drink with soda water mostly drunk when you go hicking in the mountains. You can add different flavors such as elderberry or cranberry. Refreashing and delicious. Merry Christmas from Austria🇦🇹🎄
