  • This was an easy, $40 face-lift PAINT: amzn.to/3wBXaWB. WARNING: Do not wear headphones!!! Goodbye Green Countertop!! This project took me THREE days to do (not including drying and curing time) sanding, cleaning, taping and painting. Four easy steps, aside from waiting! I used 400 grit san paper by hand and with a sander. I had significant water damage, which caused swelling of the wood underneath the laminate, i was able to sand that down with a power sander with a rougher grit followed by the 400 grit for a smoother finish. I had to sand down so much in a particular area that the sander chunked out some ply-wood, so as i mentioned in the video, I used Gorilla wood glue to patch that, let it dry and painted over it. We had the sander, sandpaper, and gorilla glue on hand.
    🔅If you have painted your countertops, how did you do it? Do you like it? How is is holding up?
    🔅What do you think we should put in as a back splash? We are leaning heavily toward shiplap or galvanized metal so we do not need to worry about making the messy wall smooth. What do you think? Oh man I would LOVE to do a faux cement with rock .... how cool would that be?! 😃

    As a professional decorator in London i can't recommend a product enough called ESP by Owatrol, no need to sand, its a liquid which can be wiped on pretty much any non porous surface including glass which enables any paint including waterbased paints to stick to any surfaces , we use it to paint old melamine, formica kitchen's and have nothing but brilliant results 😀

Even if I barely got in on and went straight to washing it off. If anyone does this...wear gloves. Thanks again for giving me the confidence to dive in and just do it.

    I’ think I’ve watched your video about 18 times. I got the wrong item after watching you over and over. Instead I got the tub and tile ended up using it for my bathroom sink bowls, and it’s incredibly beautiful no stains, and my teenage daughter love to do their makeup in the bathroom even though they have a vanity, anyway. It’s absolutely beautiful so I went and got the right one so I can do my countertops and ended up doing the bathroom floor, and wow just incredible and glossy I also did my kitchen cabinets and again wow I will do my kitchen cabinets soon hopefully. I watched your video and did my counters too! It has been over a year and a half and it is fantastic! You saved me a load of cash and tons of time! My bright yellow 70’s installed Formica top, looks brand new and a million times better in white! I also painted my yellow bathroom tile ! It is also amazing! Over a year as well. We have been really careful as some paint started to come up in the molded soap rests in the shower. I sanded and repainted. Left extra time for curing, kept fairly dry between showers and put a plastic soap holder in the molded painted holder so it doesn’t peel up again from being overly saturated. Works like a charm! I am going to paint the yellow floor tiles in guest bath. It will need extra cure time and a floor mat so it stays dry…since it is a floor. think it will be just fine! Best thing is…easy to paint over and super cheap if u have to touch up anything! Thank u soooo much!!!

    Safety tip: When sanding it's good to wear a dust-filter mask, goggles, & gloves. A synthetic surface may have especially irritating dust. Also if you can rent an electric sander with a vacuum attached, it's faster & cleaner.

The bathroom also had pink and white marbelized formica type walls in the tub/shower area and a white sink/vanity with gold glitter swirls in it. Ugh. The 50s.

    I did this for my mom’s kitchen countertops and she loves it! She had a 70’s orange countertop. I sanded it and decided to do a coat of primer due to the color and painted 2 coats of the white appliance apoxy. It looks great! The only area that didn’t come out smooth was around the kitchen sink. I would definitely remove the clip sinks and prop it up then recaulk if I do it again. Thanks for the video, looks awesome!

    I’m in the midst of painting my 80’s golden oak cabinets. Huge undertaking but uppers are done and looks fantastic. Our almond Formica countertops look awful and full of nicks but the countertop transformations reviews are not good and much more expensive than your paint. I am impressed and now plan to do exactly this as soon as cabinets are done. One of your commenters said 15 years and still look good!!! Thanks for the video.

    This was done extremely well - good prep, technique! Most of the videos I’ve seen where folks weren’t thrilled was probably because they didn’t do the prep correctly, or put on too thick a layer each time. Even with regular painting you should always opt for multiple thin coats.
    And you really have to tape off the borders etc.

    I painted mine. The laminate had water damage and was black in a lot of places. I used a nap roller so it has texture. It looks like cement. I love it. I used Dixie Belle Slick Stick, no sanding required. Then chalk paint and sealed with Gator Hide. It takes a month to cure so I washed dishes in the bathroom.

    Those counters look beautiful! I know that they now make a paint specifically for laminate/Formica countertops. I’ve seen a lot of people use peel and stick wallpaper, but to be honest, it may look good on camera, but I have a feeling it looks like wallpaper in person. I can imagine that painting looks so much better.
    PS I used appliance paint to restore a refrigerator that worked great but had significant rust damage (the “advantages” of living beach front 🙄), and that appliance paint ROCKS! It made the refrigerator look like new, and it LASTED.

    I tested the same epoxy product on old porcelain tile 😀 and it worked! I just tested one square to make sure cause I didn't want to do the whole area only to find out it peeled off or something. But it didn't peel off... I followed your sanding and prepping instructions and then painted one coat each for 3 days and it's now in the curing process. Sanding is a must especially on porcelain. After 3 coats it looks glossy and nice like new tile! I lightly scratched the edges with a nail to see if it comes off, but luckily the paint is still on and not peeling. As long as you let it dry enough days before using the surface, it will be fine 👍👍👍 Just wanted to share my results and thank you for this tutorial! 💛

      So am I correct in understanding that you used this on porcelain tile and it came out shiny? I’m bout to paint my tile on the kitchen walls and I really wanted the look of subway tiles but could figure out how to get them shiny. This might be the answer! What did you use for a degreaser prior to painting if I may ask? Thanks!!!!

    • @giulianacr2638
      @giulianacr2638 2 роки тому +1

      @@sharronharding8112 I used soap, water, vinegar and baking soda solution... But the video states you can use a degreaser. It's a lot of scrubbing, I'm not gonna lie. Make sure you sand the tiles and wipe off the dust before painting just like the video shows. The smell of the epoxy is pretty strong, like nauseating strong! I had to use a N95 mask when applying coats.
