The volume knob in my 2003 330Ci coupe broke several years ago. If I recall, the assembly holding it in place was much more over engineered (complicated) than the one shown in this video. After viewing several videos of how to disassemble the face plate and repair the bracket, I found one that offered a much simpler solution. The solution was to simply remove the top cover like as shown in this video, glue the broken bracket, and cut a piece of wood sized to jam between the back of the bracket and the heat sink behind it. The wood gives the knob something solid to push against instead on relying just on the strength of a glued plastic bracket. Once the cover is replaced there is no way the wood can pop out of place but I added some silicone adhesive to be extra sure. It's held up for close to 10 years of use.
Hello, What you explain here is just what happened to my 2002 530i, but worse. The volume control worked but the push on/off part of the button did not work. I removed the radio as you did and found the twisting of the button actually broke off of the plug, breaking off two of the five pins in the process. Now I need a new on/off/volume button. I have search but can't seem to find a place that sells them. Would you know of a on-line source where I can get such an electrical button. Thanks

I like that idea a lot. Mine broken again after several months so I will try the wood jam. Sounds simple and effective. Thanks!

So sorry but I don't know of a good place to buy the replacement part.
Glue and then plastic weld with a soldering iron.
